Shelley do a flood sensor for under £30. It will be up in running in 2 minutes. Blue ABS pumps are good quality, we fitted them in Scottish Water.

I would live in the house for a while and insulate the place as much as possible then do a heat loss calculation. Then stick the PV in with a hybrid inverter to allow for battery storage.

Immersion heater automation
TonyT replied to Andrea C's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
You generally need current transformers to determine power generated and consumed. I wouldn’t be using a spur on an immersion, normally it’s a 20 amp double pole switch, so you would be better switching a contactor on and off. -
Use a street bend, or conversion bend?

Can’t you send the drawings to some local contractors to get a feel for the price and availability?

You'll do it in the workshop, but you won't do it at home
TonyT replied to MDC's topic in Tools & Equipment
Afraid so, probably haven’t gone away part from the domestic market, I do recall a range of small consumer unit size optimisers… -

The salesmen are too busy selling voltage optimisers to push the infrared -
I have a infra red panel that drops into a 600x600mm ceiling tile. its fine in the workshop when standing under it, but I wouldn’t want to heat a home with it

Cable, I nverter & panels - best suppliers
TonyT replied to Solarexploits's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
You haven’t advised what cable size and length so now can we know if it’s better than your price? bimble solar or ITS for panels etc may be worth looking at.. -
Google MCS installation standards or something like that. this will give schematics on what an install should me like to be compliant, doesn’t matter if you don’t want MCS certification it’s away of doing the install correctly..

Reducing heat loss through the keyhole of an exterior door
TonyT replied to november romeo's topic in Heat Insulation
Hot glue the escutcheon to the handle, no chance of damaging lock mechanism. cut screws and glue head of screw into escutcheon to give impression it’s screwed. -

battery powered large format digital photo viewer?
TonyT replied to Adsibob's topic in Electrics - Other
It’s DC powered so probably easy enough that make/buy a battery back to suit and connnect it via the DC plug. -
3rd world Britain? Are we running out of power?
TonyT replied to Nickfromwales's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/electricity-supply-emergency-code matrix for planned outages. last updated 2019. you just need to check your electricity bill to see what letter you are. it’s adjacent to your name and address letter of the alphabet in a square is what you are looking for -
I just use cheap wall lights, long flex and plug. bang nail into wall and hang up tyrap if nail offends

Several Led floodlights for me, low power, no heat generated so less of a fire risk

Off to Stockton on Tees .. to buy a bath.. but
TonyT replied to Gus Potter's topic in Waste & Sewerage
That’s the same type of bath we are looking to install in a few years I have the same worries and plan to fit one of these https://shellystore.co.uk/product/shelly-flood/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMItpf89O2E-wIVW-3tCh05jgcsEAQYASABEgI24fD_BwE under the bath, battery will last a year so any leak will materialise before the battery runs out. £25 gives peace of mind and saves long term decor damage
