  1. I have a few panel heaters at work, fancy open window detection, lcd display showing temps, too complicated for the average user to use….. I keep the manual handy when I want to turn it on!
  2. It’s the old fashioned ones, no Lot20 nonsense
  3. Storage heaters, 2 brick wide units, so approx 1700 watts each
  4. I’ve just fitted 3 small ones of these in my house to take advantage of cheap night time tariff I get for EV charging, Connect them to a 13amp plug and smart socket, instant smart time scheduled heating. helps keep the core of the Victorian property at a temp and the GCH for top ups
  5. Maybe you should have asked a plumber or electrician, or someone with an M&E background in my opinion would be more suitable in asking about these technologies rather than a builder. I would ask if they have a list of sub contractors for specialist trades that he uses and can he supply details of this too in due course, or is he a builder that does everything himself and you then spend thousands afterwards rectifying what you can see and then worrying about what you can’t see. Find out the feeling of a contract with targets and payments should be agreed too, saves arguments later
  6. Well assuming you work safe of course you could power the circuit down, remove the programmer and join terminal 3 to the live conductor and apply power, this will energise part of the system. To let you see if everything opens/fires up. power off, reinstate terminal 3 and then do the same with terminal 4.
  7. Remember the electric immersion is only 3kW. your boiler ( depending on the size of it) could be putting 10 times that in the same time frame. even preheating the immersion with PV to reduce the gas demand is a worthwhile exercise.
  8. What are you building, single, two storey? plant room? avIlable size roof? location of potential equipment? gibe this some thought and get a quote from a local installer. you can always add cabling now, equipment later.
  9. Insurers quite happy to take your money and offer no help when you require it. get quotes for removal company to remove and store your possession for months, forward this to the insurers, get your MP involved too, document everything in writing with them, they are all arseholes… wanting to haggle over the works until you accept.
  10. I’m all for making life easy, so oversizing penetrations to give a bit of wiggle room, best to confirm with your plumber, your concerns as he’s doing the job not us!
  11. fully agree, just completed my EV installation course, so a heating controls course would be good for the industry
  12. 2 pipes with insulation passing through the hole plus a couple of cables too.
  13. Paint it and see what it looks
  14. Plan where the panels will go- roof/ground mount. plan route from above to inverter location plan route from inverter to mains position. allow for data cabling, plan for batteries, plan for running some loads from solar diverted, immersion/heater etc and future proof wiring
  15. 3 &4 from the programmer are the switch wires for the hot water and heating and should go to the wiring centre , but the colours are different at the wiring centre terminals for the corresponding function.
  16. Look up domestic technical standards thats the Scottish building regs
  17. It’s your right hand side white flex on the wiring centre that comes from the spur
  18. Thanks, I’ve been MIA for a while!
  19. behind the grey lagging at the same height as the wiring centre
  20. What about the spur around the corner from your wiring centre that has the white flex
  21. As did mine, but in the shoulder season when you want some heat and lean towards the feature fire, and then figure out it’s cheaper to heat the whole house. have fun whatever you decide to go with and good luck with the build!
  22. Get a 230 volt energy hub, like they use for camping, will power a light for a long time, saves using dangerous products. something like https://www.anker.com/uk/products/a1720?variant=42529253589156&currency=GBP&utm_medium=pmax&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=uk_anker_pps_conversion_pmax_powerhouse_purchase_ost&utm_content=powerhouse&utm_term={19826866282}_{}_{}&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpfyukMOk_gIVk8ftCh0TWQU1EAQYAiABEgK6CfD_BwE&listingPlan=a&discount=WS2430OFF or fit normal sockets on the wall or a floor socket
  23. Personally I wouldn’t fit one, we had a living flame fire in our lounge 20 years ago and the gas meter spun like mad, it fairly consumed the gas and heat output wasn’t great we ripped it out several years later and installed something else..
  24. I have owned an EV for over 2 years, ideal for me, as it’s 10miles to the office,10 mikes back and I have a charger in my drive. when we go further afield we use my wife’s diesel car. Never owned an automatic before and I generally didn’t like driving, the EV is just pointing it in the direction, easy to drive. the same issues crops up all the time with people buying unsuitable products for their home/lifestyle. i think Forrest Gump’s mother had an appropriate saying.
