I haven't found one merchant that is competitive on everything. We have a cash trade account with travis perkins, they are competitive on some stuff but ridiculous on other but they del and accept amex as payment (airmiles). It pays to price everything as we regularly buy from b&q, screwfix, tool station, ebay, TP, trade counter online etc. For online I usually Google search for the cheapest.

Very similar position. Toying with putting something similiar together from diykitchens.

Sarah Beeny's new house in the country

Ageee 100% with btpipe. Never missed a episode of grand designs or any other build program, had the magazine subscription even flew down to London for various shows before build started...... now they just annoy me. -
Have you made a list of material and added up the cost?

Quick question has anybody a rough idea on cost of lewis plates?

Are you redoing the roof? What look/style do you want to achieve? I don't think there is a ideal soffit size, but more down to personal taste. For me I like big soffits and flat on the horizontal run but I also hate boot ends (never heard them called that before). My architect originally drew no soffits and skews which protrude above the slate at the gables, these got changed to make build simpler.

Insulation in studs and insulated plasterboard
Alexphd1 replied to revelation's topic in Heat Insulation
@Prodave you seam to be one of the few tradesman that uses common sense. Our sparkle run drops even with a socket a meter along the wall from the other socket and large eaves behind. When I questioned this..... its the way we do it! -
Just to finish this thread I picked up a scheppah dp60 tonight in aldi for £79 reduced from £129, cheapest online aporox £150. What swayed it was the 3 year warranty.

+1 on what prodave says. Folks had track lighting in kitchen, one by one they failed so buy spares. I don't know if it will work but we have notched in (think 6mm) led ribbon into a ceiling with a little aluminium profile and a plastic diffuser (also run same up wall on staircase but lower watts per m than ceiling) Haven't got system up and running yet to report.

Modo0841 UK f is the closest to what we like.

Had a quick look on Howdens website, they only seam to have 12 variations on the website and not what we are looking for. Will they have more options in store?

After a few successful jobs with the router, now planning to make the skirting ourselves from mdf. Anybody else done this?

Plastic vs Copper pipes for radiators
Alexphd1 replied to Raks's topic in Central Heating (Radiators)
It is that simple! For the towel rail you get a 90 degree trv like this https://www.radiatorvalves4u.co.uk/trv/052-modern-trv-corner-chrome-thermostatic-radiator-valves.html?gclid=CjwKCAiAiML-BRAAEiwAuWVggpsfPYJtmzEb_AFX5j_qoQM7DnFvGIVCNheRcZskPKjvZ0hnlRJNehoCLgUQAvD_BwE (never fitted this model can't comment on quality) that saves a compression elbow. Again we just used a two lockshields (I like the danfoss as the the Allen key bit to open is concealed by a cover) that turn back directly into the wall. -

16mm mlcp (same as picture above) but thats with a standard 15mm danfoss trv. This is the uponor part for connecting 16mm to a 15mm trv or lockshield. https://www.underfloorstore.co.uk/product/uponor-compression-adapter-mlc-uk-16-15mmft -

We just used normal danfoss rlv-d lockshields on both sides of the rads. -

Do you have any pictures? Any behind the skirting system I have seen usually consists of micro bore and looks like a dogs dinner but that was a while ago maybe things have changed. -

@Dave Jones 99% of retro fit around this area is out the floor. When you mention cutting holes in nicely decorated plaster its usually a no. I am not to fussed either way as long as they are not run superficially and boxed in. -
What is this spinning bevel edge planer called?
Alexphd1 replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Tools & Equipment
Everything went to plan. It was a trend 6mm radius curve with a bearing. Only schoolboy error was using a old blade in the plunge saw..... -
This is what I was meaning, we had more rebar in our spec. I think the triangle deck chairs is a easier solution.

Good timing, I will be playing with the router tomorrow for bevelling a edge (first time) on a oak worktop. Only used the big router for cutting out vents in the soffits up to now.... will be a interesting day! -
One solution is get some rebar bent into a u shape and tie it the lower a393 mesh below.

We have just finished with the environmental health no major problems tbh all pretty common sense. The last boat I worked on shifted 80% of their produce outwith EU mostly to japan. The boat before we shifted high end langoustine to Dubai, international paperwork is not a new thing within the industry. A friend have recently set up a shellfish export buisness specialising in brown crab to china, he seams to be constantly looking for staff. When it come to fish I think people forget there is a big world outwith EU who luckily seem to have appetite for good quality seafood.

All seriousness I try and stay out of politics on online forums it only ends in tears but I did bite when I was reading about fishing rights, a subject that plays a big part in my life.
