Discount Offers of the Week
Alexphd1 replied to Ferdinand's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Out of curiosity how does the willo compare to grundfos, for some reason (unkown) it was 99% grundfos we fitted. We used to find eBay the cheapest for grundfos pumps, as long as boxes where still sealed. -
It's k rend.

Looking for a little bit of help... I need to bulk out externally on the block work approx 20-30mm around a window before rendering. I was thinking of using cement board (never used before). Any thoughts or suggestions on any other material?

Depends on how you plumb it (sealed v vented another topic) I have seen 28mm compression blow off on dhw coil linked to a solid fuel boiler. Tank was up at 90 degree, installation was nothing to do with me! -

My telford thermal store cylinder didn't come with anything, have I been had?? UVC usually comes with all the extras. They accepted 900 for the eBay tank. -
I am correct in thinking you are using amvic? I am may be cracking up but i think the amvic build 10 miles from us used plaster board props.

Remember if sealing the system you need allow 10% of total volume for expansion tanks. -

Maybe of a interest. I have one from Trevor and this one going into this build. I got the eBay one on a cheeky offer Inc vat and del. Can't comment on quality both are still wrapped up. -
Scroll compressor v inverter that's above me tbh. But I thought they where the same thing but the inverter part is the compressor just changing speed for varied output demand. Somebody will be along with the exact answer.

Both heat pumps have very good reputations. Probably I would side with the ecodan simply because I see more of them in the AC world and better chance to find a engineer with experience on the gas side.

Friend swears by the husqvarna one but he's maybe on commission from local agent. Programmed to come out twice a day.

@Russell griffiths to late now?. Good video. we might get everything right on build 2!! -
Can't comment on boiler but I would strongly stay with a main stream brand. Warranty work, parts availability and trades with experience all easier with vailiant, WB etc. Pulled out lots of johnson and starlet hot air units. The boiler case does have a look of alpha boilers to it!

Just 15 minutes??? -
I think a lot of the problem comes from poor standards of what's accepted on large developments. We had 6 joiners from glasgow stay with us (b&b) working on 100+ home development and they where blaming the internal door kits been off for the doors not hanging 'properly'. I also have a strong feeling our window fitters where more used to large sites than single high spec builds.
-
Although we have done 95% of the work ourselves the few trades we have had have been been very good apart from the window fitters who where contracted by the window suppliers. I got a eye opener how poor some trades could be with them . The window fitters got very aggresive when quality of work was questioned, they just wanted paid (I pay supplier, supplier pays them) and on the next job. The few times I have used spons as a guide for trades it's been a waste of time. The good trades say the hourly rate and I don't negotiate I either accept or decline their services, I don't want somebody unhappy before they start.

We have eps300 upstands on our slab and I wouldn't sit the sliders on them, far to much weight. Its a detail we should have investigated in more detail now the gaulhofer windows are half in, need to work out a solution now?? -
Wish I had that advice before employing a engineer. A few £k wasted using a local one in Aberdeen recomended from my architect (who turned out to be a architectural technician) who was as useful as a chocolate fire gaurd.....

Discount code still works. I was quoted £12 del (aberdeenshire) for a £70 order when i increased the order to £201 i got free shipping then the 15% discount!
