Architect or Architectural Designer??
dpmiller replied to Mike_scotland's topic in Surveyors & Architects
we were very lucky- the guy we used trained in NZ where architects have a SE portion to their training. he is adept at both the aesthetic and the buildability. -

How can I draft proof this kitchen cabinet?
dpmiller replied to H F's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
if the ductwork is sealed correctly, then your draughty meterbox is unlikely to be caused by the shutter. -
Time for another landmark. Upstairs pipe loop installed, screed poured today as planned. Remarkable stuff- I was expecting runny, but just how coarse the aggregate in it is surprised me.

New ASHP incoming... Running tips pls!
dpmiller replied to Benjseb's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
what fumes? fumes mean a fault and danger. Are you sure you want to rely on a faulty device as your backup? -
Airtightness just about complete. I'm going to schedule a test for sooner rather than later a that way I can be content before the PB goes on. But in the interim, playing with the settings on the MVHR (one fan at 100%, the other at minimum, no ducts sealed off in any way) I can pull the house from + to - 15Pa. According to the fan charts in the manual that looks like better than 1ACH even with the ducts open? Screed booked to be poured upstairs next Thursday. Much to do before then...

My experiences exactly, one of the instruments I look after is a faecal occult blood analyser. The wash solution is just a dilute bleach and it's damn-all use for getting fatty residues out of the measuring cuvettes. Q-tip and fairy liquid time...

This just dropped into my FB newsfeed. A British option on these systems? https://www.sahp.info/

Lead trays for windows & doors in a timber frame?
dpmiller replied to Nick1c's topic in Windows & Glazing
We didn't do a tray for our dormer, and the only lead we used on the roof was for the chimney back gutters. Everything else we used Leadax for and it's great to work with. Much cheaper than the real thing too. -
CE means China Export, does it not?

looks like a repair done when the windows were replaced? I'd wonder if it had been over-polished, or if some of the silicone sealant had got onto it.

VAT and public utilities
dpmiller replied to Conor's topic in Self Build VAT, Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), S106 & Tax
Weird. there was never any mention of VAT on any of our NIE quotes. -
screws not tight enough.

Ive been looking at this myself as finances will keep us at the lower end of the market... Cool Energy do have an inverter unit, but it's big (a boiler replacement unit really). I asked them if they had plans for a smaller inverter but they refused to acknowledge the need stating that there was no real efficiency saving... Hmm. Earth Save Products have a nice 11kW inverter, and Peak Energy are now branding the Lailey & Coates product, which has a nice simple-looking user interface If you're looking for a 6kW unit, I made the group aware recently of a L&C unit that's currently available at a very good price.

you could socket the pcb for replaceable relays.

if you can't/ don't wnat to do it, there's always the "pay a professional" option... -
do you eat chicken yourself?

you can get kwikstage as close to the wall as you like with hop-ups.
-
the other option (with a cost involved) is to put the funds into escrow with a solicitor, I believe.

We are using Protect VC Foil Ultra. While it was supplied with the TF kit it's a brand that's common in the merchants and isn't the most expensive product out there?

What size of inverter is associated with these battery packs tho?

air tight, but what vapour permeability?

Wren Kitchen Colours - RAL Equivalent?
dpmiller replied to Rob99's topic in Kitchen Units & Worktops
you could always just try the spectro in B&Q. It is free after all. I've done some work on the systems in the past but don't know if the current solution displays an RGB or RAL result- but even if not you may be able to crossreference off the internal code on the swatch. -
Aren't most TF contracts on a phased payment plan? Ours certainly was...
