Ours our open with stainless steel insect mesh across the top to stop bug ingress but allow free draining of any water that gets behind the cladding. Also we went 400 centres on the battens because it can get quite windy where our site is so might be worth considering.

Sealing a masonry "pond"?

Would something like the below just drop straight in? http://www.watergardeningdirect.com/acatalog/Dove-Preformed-Pond-Lotus-Toughline.html -
Spontaneously exploding shower glass
Mikey_1980 replied to DavidFrancis's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
It happened to me just before we moved out of our old house, it is the toughened glass, designed to fragment rather than big shards. If someone has banged the door too hard, leant something on it, sudden temperature changes etc can cause it to go with a bang. Ours was the hinge breaking and possibly putting too much stress on the screw hole as I took it off, leant it against the wall safely and then went pop in my hands. Our shower screen was from Merlyn, they were great as they give a lifetime warranty and swapped over the entire enclosure within 48 hours as the one we had was no longer available. So it might be worth looking out where you got it from as they may replace free of charge. With that service I recived from Merlyn I have gone for Merlyn shower screens and trays in all of the bathrooms in our new house. -

Soft Stripping - Health and Safety

can you not strap a camera to the hard hat of the roofer with a live video feed, they can watch from the comfort of their car! -
we have 30 of the enlite flat panel LEDS in our house, there was no interference when I tested them, the power went on in the house yesterday, these still need to be installed so I should be able to confirm in the next couple of days if there is any issues http://enlitelighting.com/Products/LED-Downlights/Slim-Fit-Downlights/100-240V-6W-Round-Low-Profile-LED-Downlight

Does anyone know if the Monarch Scaleouts are any good, we are kind of thinking we should put a water softener in but the build is nearly complete and trying to run a separate cold feed to the kitchen tap for drinking will be a pain now? Our plumber has said they do provide some scale relief though no where near as much as a dedicated softner, the reviews are mixed so does anyone here have any experience

We have been looking at the 3M prestiege series in case we need it for our Glazed areas. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Window_Film/Solutions/Markets-Products/Residential/Sun_Control_Window_Films/Prestige_Series/ As we need blinds we are going for the Duette Blackout Blinds first with the window flim as a backup as they are bedrooms.

Would it rent as holiday accommodation, might be a bit late now but you might get £600-800 a week during the holiday period and then long term let for winter at £800 a month. I had a friend who lived in cornwall and this happens a lot, short term rental contracts from September until March at £1000 a month, then kicked out and it gets rented weekly for Holidays at £800-1500 a week for 6 months.

Our BCO wasn't fussed by the Kore system, he had never seen it before and knew their internal SE wouldn't have either so didn't even bother sending the details over just ok'd everything based on what MBC supplied, it also helped that Jeremey turned up at the same time as our BCO when they were laying the EPS and explained everything to him. The same again with the LABC who we used for the warranty, they had no issues with the system they just wanted the soil test results.

So having remembered Nick's advice for Leyland super laytex for newly plastered walls when the old site went down, does anyone have any recommendations for a roller, I have been using a hardy professional but today in the 10th tub of super leytex switched to a purdy colusus which gives a lot faster coverage but does anyone have any other recommendations for rollers, as I have about 1000 m2 of walls and ceilings to paint.

Structural Warranty Quotes
Mikey_1980 replied to swisscheese's topic in New House & Structural Warranties
We went with LABC, and used the LA BCO for Building control, both have been fine to deal with. The LABC even picked up a structural issue that the LA BC missed and MBC corrected quickly as it was nothing too major just some vertical timbers through the floors. LABC had no issues with our passive slab, we took out the warranty in December last year (2015) -
MVHR with active cooling
Mikey_1980 replied to worldwidewebs's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Does it need to be PHPP certified? we have the ESP MVHR which has a built in ASHP for heating/Cooling (2.2kw) its big but well made, they have supplied and fitted for around £7k and have done a really excellent job on the ducting and finishing, they have insulated every pipe run they have put in as well which I wasn't expecting -
Who fits facias and soffits?
Mikey_1980 replied to worldwidewebs's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
Lovely looking house, our carpenter did ours but we went for black ash effect UPVC, it has come out looking really smart. Our architect was dubious but he agrees it looks good but the carpenter has done a really good job of fitting it, I guess if it's aluminium someone more specialist would be required. -
Our ASHP is specified at 500mm rear, 350mm Side and 1000m Front its an ESP varimax, I am fairly sure when I was looking nearly all of them were a 300mm minimum from the rear.

Thanks Ferdinand, I have been looking at the various Quidco offers available and have been around a few specialist centres. I managed to view the Rangemaster Nexus today which seems to be a lot better finished than the others, one shop on Quidco is offering 6% cash back on Rangemaster, and the site offers a free set of decent quality pans as a free gift as well as free delivery and being the cheapest supplier, with all the various offers it brings it in at around £1900 which is a fair price, I will just have to pay for a rotissiere for the BBQ!. I hope to corrected but unfortunately I don't believe I can claim the VAT back on a range.

unfortunately the location of our cooker means it wouldn't be that easy,

Discharging conditions really is a minefield we had a similar set to you minus the Archeology, everything bar the soil contamination was approved within a week, bar the contamination they rejected our desk based report, argued for ages around what they wanted, in the end I go the EH officer to come to site, detailed exactly what he wanted us to produce for him which was 9 samples from locations he chose, when we did the sampling I made him come out and witness it all and then emailed the reports directly to him and planning and it still took two weeks for him to say ok even though it was clear there was no contamination.

Thanks for the comments, I have been going round all the kitchen shops, they tend to only have Dual Fuel units as they are cheaper to buy in, we don't have Gas near us and I have made no provision for LPG unfortunately, I will keep looking around.

So can anyone recomend a range cooker that doesn't cost the earth, the current breed of rangemasters don't seem that well made any more, and due the overun on our budgets we can't stretch to a Britania (although I am sold on it for the built in rotissiere), I am looking at 110 wide induction range, any sugestions?

Hi Everyone, oh how I have missed you all, the decisions I have had to make without being able to consult the vast wealth of knowledge available from everyone. I don't think I have had made too many mistakes and the good news is you'll all find out how the ecocent works soon! Its plumbed in along with the MVHR and the ASHP I am just waiting for SSE to give me a quote to move the electricity pole, apparently this takes 8 weeks!
