Ours was one metre as specified by the Hilliard the MBC SE, perhaps drop him an email to confirm, do you know the depths that Hilliard has specified yet?

Protecting Doors and Thresholds
Mikey_1980 replied to worldwidewebs's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
We put some thick carpet down upside down so the soft pile was facing down. Damage will and does happen, we had some scratches to our powdercoat and a dent the size of a 50p appear in one of our alu frames when the scaffolding came down, but Magic Man is absolutley brilliant at making them disappear and look like new. -
We used Marley Cedral, great tough hard wearing product which looks great, ours is grey and it is easy to clean but your can't really notice the dirt.

Structural Warranty Quotes
Mikey_1980 replied to swisscheese's topic in New House & Structural Warranties
One to thing to think about is wether you will need to remortgage when the build is complete, we are switching lenders and they required the warranty to do this. -
You want the simpsons frameless single fix 10, I know they do a 1200mm panel as I have one in our house but I am not sure if the do a larger size

Structural Warranty - About to start foundations

LABC were cheapest when we looked and have been great to deal with and have a wide acceptance in the mortgage market. The other we looked at were BuildZone, NHBC, CRL -
Squeaked in with an EPC A Rating

We scored 92 with no PV, it was the Ecocent for heating water that gave us the extra points. -

Well done, ecology are pretty quick at applying the discount, we had our letter in the post within 48 hours. -
We went with LABC because of the breadth of mortgage lenders that accept them, they were fine with our MBC house, picked up one structural issue that was rectified with no issues and we received the certificate 24 hours after our final inspection, they were great to deal with, we didn't use them for building control we used the council, agin no problems with them.

We run ours on a 24 hour 7 day a week timed pump which works quite well as there is normall enough water for hand washing during the day with out having to run the taps for ages when the pump shuts off at 9am.
-
Yes exactly this and all run in copper piping
-
We have a hot water recirculating system. The run between the two furthest points is approximately 18 metres and we have no issues with two or three showers being used at the same time and people running taps. We have 4 bathrooms and one cloakroom in total with a 300 litre UVC

MVHR systems
Mikey_1980 replied to ryder72's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Its easy to get confused with the Ecocent naming. On another note, no heating and no temperature drops and plenty of hot water with the Ecocent for DHW. The whole house is a steady 22 degrees all the time with the exception of one bedroom which reaches 25 in the late afternoons with the low sun, but it isn't uncomfortable, and will improve once we get some curtains in. -
MVHR systems
Mikey_1980 replied to ryder72's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
The Ecocent Air is their MVHR not the DHW cyclinder that we have as well, the Ecocent Air is the same as the Genvex MVHR that offers built on cooling and heating within the unit. -
The Ecocent was switched on Today
Mikey_1980 replied to Mikey_1980's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
Thanks Himac, yes I am fully aware, we waited for our final EPC until it was on the SAP database, we saw an improvement in both our CO2 emissions as well as the EPC score due to the ecocent, we scored 92 (A) with no Solar PV at all and and ASHP for heating. -
How to calculate overall cost per m2
Mikey_1980 replied to Gone West's topic in Costing & Estimating
our scafolders were great to work with, they delivered what MBC requested to start with, and change the lifts or went up further whenever MBC or the Window company needed it changing. They didn't even charge us for the additonal 16 weeks that we ended up having it hire as they didn't need it for any other jobs and it was free storage to them. To top it all off they brought all our security fencing off us for the same price that I paid for it, he was happy as he rented it out the same day he collected from us. However they were the ones that are builder recomended to us, I have no idea as to wether they were cheap/expensive as I didn't bother going and getting any other quotes as I knew the feelings from Ebuild on Scafolders. -
MVHR systems
Mikey_1980 replied to ryder72's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
We have the Ecocent Air from Earthsave and it is working really well, it offers the same heating and cooling functionality as the genvex, is quiet and easy to use, we have been running it 3 months now with no problems. They did a full supply and install for around the same price as buying the genvex from a U.K. Supplier on supply only. -
How to calculate overall cost per m2
Mikey_1980 replied to Gone West's topic in Costing & Estimating
We have built in Rural hampshire this year, our cost per M2 without factoring in the land cost was around £1550, I think alot depends on what is required to get this site in order, build method and finish. We haven't gone for a vast amount of technology in our house, but have spent money on things like a made to measure kitchen and good quality shower fittings etc. We managed our project in conjunction with our Builder and the timber frame company. I did bits and pieces on the house as it progressed, mainly painting which wouldn't have significantly reduced the over cost per M2. -
Hi NSS, my Wife like yours suffers from bronchiectasis, and has been on long courses of Antiobiotics many times over the past 4 years since it was diagnosed and although building our house wasn't a driver for a better standard of health we made sure that we could get a good flow of air via the MVHR to hopefully try and alleivate the chances of recuring chest infections. The strange thing that we have found is that moving from our old house and into a draughty cold caravan and then into the new house, so far in the past 12 months their has not been one recurrence yet, whereas before every 6-9 months she would be on a course of antibiotics for 1-3 months or longer. Our fingers are crossed that maybe there was something in the old house triggering it, or just the fact that quality of air in our new house is better but something had definitely improved the situation.
-
We paid £3k to our architect to discharge our planning conditions and liaise with our chosen Timber frame company to finalise the design, we didn't have a clue and it was money well spent in our eyes.
-
We have been living in our new house for around 3 months and I feel the air quality is a lot better than our old house. The people who supplied and installed our MVHR were very thorough in the design and commissioning and advised us to check the filter man every two months for for the first 6 months and then every 6 months after that. We also have many rooms with two inputs to make sure we are getting a good flow rate of air through, and they marked all the doors up for where they needed to be cut by our carpenter to make sure the flow of air round the house was adequately I think it is all down to making sure MVHR is well designed/installed and maintained.

Arranging builders and self managing
Mikey_1980 replied to jayroc2k's topic in House Extensions & Conservatories
We used a builder, and his preferred trades to fininish and fit out or timber frame shell, with the exception of the Kitchen and Heating which we sorted oursleves. All the individual Trades invoiced us directly and we paid the builder a 10% management fee based on the final invoice. It worked really well for us, all the trades our builder worked with were 2nd to none in terms of finish and cleanliness and he organised when they needed to be onsite, and the materials that they needed. There were a couple of delays but the other trades were able to go and do other jobs and then come back to ours when required. Our architecht couldn't believe how well between us and the builder we managed to get everyone in at the right time, our timber frame started going up on 18th Jan 2016, and we moved in with just painting to finish off on 27th June. -
I would have data points anywhere there is a TV aerial, in Hallways near a phone line and in the Kitchen, every device is going to be connected in the furture and wireless isn't always great, especially if there is lots of insulation. We also added in lots of outdoor sockets and lights, and cables which are terminated outside for the furture use of electric gates/lights etc.

I was risk adverse so took it out the day we completed on the plot and took everything they offered me, with the exception of covering a massive amount of tools.
