  1. There is Govt scheme for Satelite as well. If you’re located in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland and are suffering from slow connectivity below 2Mbps, you could be eligible for a subsidy of up to £800! The scheme is aimed at rural areas that will not receive a fibre connection and covers free hardware and installation of your satellite broadband package. For full details of BDUK subsidy schemes visit the Government website.
  2. Could you look at Trenchlees moling, I was quoted £900 to go under a 4 metre wide road and then open trench to run the cables to where they are needed.
  3. @Alex C what is the damage like that they have been unable to repair I am waiting for them to come out to us.
  4. It will look fantastic. Start saving large cardboard boxes up if you have lots of building work still to do to lay down on it to protect it, we brought a loads of Corex first of all but were advised that we needed to take it up every evening to let the floor continue to dry, I the end we used the boxes from the kitchen for two months which protected it from any damage.
  5. We are the same, our windows have been the biggest problem we have and our still ongoing. I won't name the company as we are still trying to resolve things. To their credit the fitters who were subcontractors have been excellent at overcoming problems, and trying to sort things for us when the people in the office don't seem to be able to do anything other than say the computer says it is going to get 8 weeks to get that part, when the fitter can go into the yard after fixing some other problems, spot the part that we need on another customer part that was being send back, strip it off and then spend two hours driving to us to fit it on a Friday evening to fit it as he was as frustrated as us with how things were being handled by the company.
  6. Hi Terry, yes our passive slab required a perimeter land drain which we ran into two 10ft deep soak a ways, this was all installed by our groundworkers, when MBC came they put in all the pipe runs for showers/toilets etc as per the services and ducts design that we had agreed and signed off with them.
  7. No it means mains drainage, they put 7 drain runs under our slab extending to 1 metre away from the base. They supplied all the pipes/bends etc.
  8. Below is a picture of ours, they are 25mm Merlyn trays and either Simpsons Or Merlyn 10mm screens with a little flappy bit to help with the spray. They are solid and work really well
  9. We used 100mm acoustic earth wool with 15mm plasterboard and a skim finish as our finished walls
  10. we used earthwool acoustic roll, works really well you can't hear a thing, or thats what I say when someone shouts for a cup of tea.
  11. we went for the same crosswater fittings in all four of our showers and they are brilliant, I wanted to cut some costs by going for something cheaper but I am gald I didn't win that argument. There customer service is excellent too we had an issue with on of the diverter boxes and they helped the plumber fix it and get it working over the phone in 20 minutes and have said they will replace it straight away if it causes a problem again.
  12. I used a company in Basingstoke I see you are in south hampshire, not sure if they would go as far but they were excellent and I would recomend them to anyone. We had a really difficult location for our stairs and it was tight to meet building regs but Gary was absolutely brilliant in all the measuring and design. We had them measured and fitted by them within two weeks and it was about £200 more than pears wanted for supply only with your own measurements/Design. http://www.gsfstairs.co.uk/
  13. Have you tried these people http://www.timber-frame-suppliers.co.uk/ I am no way saying they are great but they were really helpful when we were looking at Timber frames, we went with MBC in the end but they continued to try and help by trying to source are windows. They maybe able to help and Reading to Woking isn't too far.
  14. It is absolutely all about playing the system. We have been having issues with our electrics, in the fact that 7 houses electrics are all tripping at the same time around 5-7 times a day, SSE still can't work out where the issue is but while they have been it trying to fix the issue for 2+ weeks I have had a phase removed, the temporary meter switched over and the cables moved higher up the pole for free, something that originally they wanted over £1.5k for, just for making sure they had tea/coffee and bacon roles. I have also had all my wiring and appliances tested to check it wasn't us cashing the problem, which it wasn't but the feedback they have was that it was one of the neatest well laid our electrical installs they have seen.
  15. Our was a new build there was previously an old workshop on the site. Basically the guy came out shined a torch inside we had it empties prior, had a good look, put a CCTV camera in there, told us to fill it up with water came back 72 hours later and said it was fine for the size of the swelling and the soak ways looked clear. My father in law put it in but it was hardly every used, in fact there was hardly anything to empty out and nothing had ever made it to the soak a way level.
  16. We have reused our old septic tank, BC raised no issues with or asked for any test on the septic tank, I had one done anyway but they said there was no need for it.
  17. Is this what you are after, http://www.metraroofingtools.co.uk/product111777/flexible-roof-ladder.aspx
  18. After MBC finished our Shell, we employed a builder to pretty much finish it to a painting stage. We sourced our own heating engineers but he used his own subcontractors for Plumbing/Electrics/Plastering etc. He basically charged us a 10% premium on the quotes that he got for managing their time onsite etc. It worked really well for us and we are very happy with the end result.
  19. With the badly chipped ones they should absolutely be replaced, ours made to order were sprayed doors, after it was installed the fitter went round, pointed out all the chips and dings and said they they would be replacing x doors, there was a small chip on one door that they repaired as they provided a colour match spray paint, I can't find the chip that was repaired now so they did a good jop. The new doors were fitted approximately 2 weeks later.
  20. We range round a number of local places and that was about the going rate. in hindsight as we ended living on site I wish we had brought a large solid wood workshop that we could have used after the build as little was actually stored in it and as soon as the building was secure which was a few weeks after the frame went up most of the materials were stored in there
  21. I filled that form in but never heard anything and Open reach were a complete pain. Have you had a phone line on the site. Our house has a completely new address, postcode and road name anx I thought it was going to be a nightmare, talk talk couldn't help, but a call to BT and speaking to someones boss, they fudged the system and the line was installed within 7 days, I paid for 12 months line rental upfront so the install was free. Getting broadband activated took 4 weeks, not really sure why buy everything is working fine.
  22. Our line was instaĺled 6-8 weeks ago, the guy turned up asked me where ai wanted it, showed him the duct and off he went.
  23. I think it must be the luck of the draw as to who you get turn up to install it, ours comes across the road down the electricity pole and then through the ducting I laid from the electricty pole to the centre of the hallway through the slab. I leftba draw string and he just pulled a the cable all the way through.
  24. No special pipes are required, we have some installed just as a safety precaution becuase I brought a load of intumescent seals for the external cladding I went overboard when ordering fire protection stuff http://www.ironmongerydirect.co.uk/products/intumescent_and_fire_control/intumescent_accessories/436/pyroplex_4_hour_pipe_closing_collar_stainless_steel/258507.
