  1. We had a deep bore soak away drilled eight years ago and the BCO wanted it at least 5m from the house. It went down 47m and turned into a well, but that's another story.
  2. It's not something we have noticed nor has it affected us. There are two of us in the house, the tank is 185l and it's a low water usage house. We heat the water to 45C and there has always been plenty of hot water, with the tank reheating quickly after a shower. It will be interesting to see the first years electricity bill.
  3. Building Control have asked us to apply for a Demolition Notice before we demolish our bungalow. Apparently there is no charge involved. Maybe that is what they are going on about.
  4. As I think has been said, it prioritises hot water over space heating. For the Combi LS it takes nine hours to heat the water tank fully from 15C to 55C when the outdoor temperature is 15C. So the time taken increases as the outdoor temperature decreases.
  5. The Genvex Combi hot water temperature can be set to between 0C and 55C using the EASHP and increased to 65C by use of the immersion if required.
  6. They are galvanised and when I did mine it was possible to get a 50 year guarantee on the whole roof.
  7. The Nu-Lok fitters used Spitfire fixings. Could be more lethal than a mouthful of nails.
  8. You'll live in the inside of the house and be looking at the internal walls all the time. Do you want to look at straight or crooked walls? If it was mine they would have to be straight and flat, but that's just me.
  9. You don't have to, but I would. It's just the way I am! The gap under the tiles is naturally ventilated by virtue of the steel battening and drainage channels.
  10. We have a Wren kitchen. It's fine, but don't rely on the Wren design and measuring aspect, check it yourself.
  11. Hi and welcome to the forum. Nice looking site, if it was mine I would renovate to as near PH as possible.
  12. I filled up the pockets on my tool belt when I was battening.
  13. I tried Jasum Envirocare but the salesman was hopeless. He quoted a price for five sets of filters including VAT and then went back on it saying it was excluding VAT. The new price ended up virtually the same as Total Home Environment, so I bought them there. I've contacted a lot of places but couldn't find anywhere significantly cheaper. I am also thinking about getting a metal frame and fitting my own filter medium.
  14. That is a lot dirtier than mine was, mine was just a slightly darker colour.
  15. We just went to Bathstore when they had a sale on. It was straightforward. We liked the designs, we bought everything for the three bathrooms in one go and got extra discount. Prices were very reasonable and the products are well made.
  16. @JSHarris would you need a lot more storage space for the NiFe system compared to the lithium system?
  17. I think @ProDave might be thinking of things like this. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vents-Prevents-Condensation-Attic-Ventilation/dp/B00M97O5YY
  18. Has anyone had an overhead telephone line removed by Openreach and what did it cost? I'm tempted to just disconnect from the house, coil it up and leave it on the pole. It hasn't provided a service for two months.
  19. It is possible to convert septic tanks to treatment plants. Don't know how effective they are but if they meet the requirements I guess they're okay. Other makes are available. https://www.wte-ltd.co.uk/septictankconversion.html
  20. Hi @Paul Stevenson, I installed a Nu-Lok roof on my self build around seven years ago which I bought from a company called Nu-Sustainable in Northamptonshire which was supplied by Raven Roofing in Wiltshire. Raven Roofing don't appear to stock Nu-Lok any longer so are you now the only supplier in the UK and did you take over from Nu-Sustainable?
  21. I had one of these https://www.tooled-up.com/vitrex-versatile-power-pro-900-wet-bridge-radial-tile-saw/prod/184706/ I never got wet but I did use it outdoors for the roof tiles, floor tiles and paving slabs. Hopefully won't have to do those jobs again so gave it away a few months ago.
  22. Well Ian, been there done that. The only difference being that I got the driver to crane it up onto the scaffolding, saves a bit of sweat . Hope you've checked the batch numbers on the tiles. I think I've got some channels left over if you run short.
  23. No it didn't, but I think if the racking had been a lot thinner then gluing or sealing might have had an effect.
  24. True, along with 15mm OSB3 racking.
  25. That's right, and the BCO said the same. Ours was 0.47m3/(h.m2)@50Pa and the BCO said he usually sees around 4 to 5m3/(h.m2). We're amateurs and didn't use any air tightness membranes or tapes so it should be possible for the professionals with a bit of care.
