  1. A lot... There is a significant thought process that everything that comes out of China is crap - it’s not .... There are some very good manufacturers who produce high quality products and it’s sheer economies of scale that allow them to produce at lower prices. There is a lot of crap out there from across the world - it’s not just limited to China !
  2. If they are designed for bathroom use then they should be HDF and moisture proof. Vinyl wrapping of MDF doesn’t make it moisture proof and you end up very quickly with blown cabinets.
  3. Which would need to be one of the IPx ones that will set you back £7-900... And for what ..??
  4. Sadly that is how Howdens work - you need someone with an account to get pricing ..!!! It also varies between the branches too - I get different discounts at my “home” branch.
  5. One of the admins grants you blog access and then a “Create Blog” button appears on the blog page...
  6. We screwed a Stanley blade at 45 degrees to the end of a piece of batten and added a tee at the other end parallel to the blade. It cut 350mm slices of 25mm in seconds with a cut through the top, spin it over then along the back. Made for very consistent and easy cutting !!
  7. I would be designing out any use of air con. With a decent MVHR setup you can minimize the need for cooling as long as you aren’t having very large south facing glazing. We have a full room in roof build facing south and even with no MVHR running and the weather a couple of weeks ago the rooms didn’t get to much above 21c.
  8. I think the “problem” was defining what was meant at first. Now we have clarified that I can see the benefit. Getting some sort of key facts about a build around PV/ASHP/etc etc with size, location, cost per sqm, down to window supplier and choices would work well. So as @newhome said, you draft it and we can critique ..... ?
  9. Yeh but you got results from yours, he’s just trying for a world record post length ..!! @ultramods what you are suggesting sounds like some sort of “fact file” for each build - something that could probably be done with a reasonably template.
  10. 5,400 topics and 95,000 posts and counting ... Unstructured data is a mare to make sense of unless you can use third party data mining tools to find patterns - tags are a low tech method and on the whole work well. If everyone who got a question answered went back and tagged their original post then it would be a gold mine .....
  11. We use Meridian for both BC and warranty inspections and I can’t fault them. Warranty is Sennocke (BuildZone) and was nearly £1800 down the toilet when we found out they don’t do conversions and the broker had basically lied to get the business..... the insurer picked up the pieces and have been superb, issuing interim certificates via email and based on photos when the stages didn’t align with the inspections. Can’t fault either Meridian or Sennocke
  12. Yep and I only used these - cheap and easy, they fit under the mounts really well with a penny washer on top. Minifoot
  13. Ok so take the lid off and you will find terminals marked L N E P1 P2 A1A2 A3 A5 from memory. P1 and P2 connect to the pipe stat. L N E connect to the switched output from the time clock (via the room stat) A1-A5 go to the matching connections on the internal board. Need a 25a rotary switch and some flex to connect - I used HORN. Should look like this when it’s done. Time clock controls the on/off, room stat controls the room temps and then the pipe stat does the ASHP signaling. for ease - as I had to go one side to the other - I used copper and then use flexis to the termination at the house. Unit sits on Mini Pads from TLC Direct and were £2 each.
  14. Ok so that sounds like a series of workbooks that allow stuff from doing a basic costing and feasibility down to ones that help with heat demand, insulation types etc. is that the sort of thing you are looking for ..??
  15. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F390560499379
  16. You can buy an MVHR core for about £150 that just needs fans adding. You could use that as the basis for a home built MVHR that you can expand over time.
  17. Screwfix have Mapei Ultimate for £10 and it will go to 10mm no problem but it only does 4sqm not 5 at 3mm....
  18. Slightly cheaper - and they are pretty good at doing a deal if you try ... Here
  19. Yep - works on a single pipe stat set to temperature. Assuming this is the same spec as mine. Should come with a Siemens pipe stat in the box with the controls
  20. Has it got the control box with it ..?? They have a 4 wire control but only 2 are really used as it joins 3 together at the output of the 24v transformer ..!
  21. Get the architect to add a paragraph to the tender that states to each company “please include a list of any items you would normally include with a price breakdown for each item” That means if anyone has missed anything - or you want to compare additional items - then you have the info.
  22. You can set up a Kwikstage on three sides to allow you to get the frame in then drop the remaining side in when you are done to allow the brickies to do the skin. Quicker and simpler than a trad scaffold.
  23. Ok so the only people that can move the gas meter are Transco (or whatever they are called) and as @Weebles said it ain’t cheap ! Is the builder doing it as part of the demolition ..?
  24. is he on commission to the boiler suppliers ....?? 38kw combi will nail the dual showers but - and the big but - is you will need a decent water flow. You will then have an issue with needing a buffer for the UFH as the boiler won’t modulate down to give the floor flow temps directly. @Nickfromwales will be along shortly but you could go Sunamp PV for the hot water boosted by E7 and then a 5kw ASHP to the floor heating as I doubt your heating load will be above 3-4kw at most.
  25. Which services are we talking ..? Elec will need a meter move which isn’t too expensive. Water you can pretty much do yourself Gas.....?? Very pricey and gas service pipes are a b!@tch to find with a Cat scanner even with a trace wire and genny. Best tool is usually the one sat in the cab of the JCB and have Transco Emergency line on speed dial ...
