  1. Use a lipped bolt or a washer ..?
  2. What type of hot water cylinder are we talking here ..?
  3. uPVC fascia isn’t as strong as you think when compressed - it’s a thin plastic skin on foam.
  4. yes - the CC payment can be only £100 to still qualify
  5. not really - they are combined pressure and temperature and go at either 95°C or 3.2bar. Even at that point, the tank starts to rapidly cool as mains cold comes into the tank - if you have steam then it will exit via the tundish vents anyway. I’ve seen plenty of internal stubs with AAVs signed off with D2 connections on them and no-one has picked up on it. @tuftythesquirrel if your plumber is signing off the G3 it’s his cert anyway - BCO will just ask you for the book as proof.
  6. The issue is not just the stove but the flue - use enamel stove pipe and you need much more space to combustible materials. You can get away with lining the alcove with cement board and then skimming with a high temp plaster which means you’ve sorted the non-combustible issue however you really need the stove specified to know what your limits are.
  7. This is a problem for more complex mixes of UFH/Rads etc This is another issue - their own tech support usually end up saying “It’s not the system it’s your xyz etc at fault..” It is expensive for the wall mounted thermostat / controller and it needs babysitting to get it right - you need the smart hub to get the full features which is another £65-70 so for the full all singing system you can be north of £4-450. There are plenty of other systems that will do the same for less with better support from experience - if you’re not comfortable spending time troubleshooting then it’s not for you.
  8. Yes - and they are crap… Save your sanity and ditch it and swap for something else ..
  9. @Paene Finituris there another accessible door..? One that has a less visible path..? Doesn’t have to be the front door that is Part M compliant.
  10. There will be huge gaps - what is the spec for the walls in the plans to meet BRegs..? You can’t just pour beads in, they are sprayed in with a glue binder so they don’t move or settle. Get a quote to have it done properly.
  11. Gravel or clean crushed concrete - should be £25/tonne loose or £40/tonne bagged - that’s decorative slate and I wouldn’t be burying it !
  12. Has to be removed - a lot of the bead installers can do this prior to installing new beads and if the cavity is open it is even easier.
  13. 55°C is way too hot for UFH ..! Drop it to 45°C max - you shouldn’t need to “feel” UFH warm on your feet. The manifold pump needs setting to 3 if the boiler pump is set to 2 - otherwise the least resistance route will be the rads and the UFH will be compromised
  14. Yep I know !! I was surprised they could beat the locals and also delivery wasn’t too bad - I’ve paid much worse !
  15. Vaillant has a pump in the boiler so if the rads or cylinder is calling for heat then that will be the shortest flow or path of least resistance. Ideally you need the UFH flow setting to be higher than the boiler as the manifold is a circulation pump so when it needs more hot water from the boiler then it should be able to pull from the main circuit. I’m assuming somewhere there are zone valves ..?
  16. That’s not correct - it is the flow valves you open fully not the TRV !! The Salus valves will control to a delta 7°C between flow and return temps
  17. Just bought via Easy Merchant as they were even cheaper than playing off 2 local merchants for some drainage stuff. And use DHL for delivery - free over £125 Ex VAT
  18. Why ….?? Would never install gulleys internally as they need a water seal to make them work. Stub stack in the plant room with a boss head to take overflows etc. Garage - depends what is going into there ..? But again, sealed is preferable.
  19. Alert is who I get my stuff through - very knowledgeable and helpful
  20. Lose the first row, haunch the aco drain with concrete and leave a gap to the wall then fill the lot with 20mm gravel. It will protect the DPC and also provide localised drainage
  21. Got all the manifolds, shower pump, controls, 300 litre tank and a 100 litre buffer with expansions into a 1600x800 plant room so it’s about how you plan it out.
  22. You can buy a jetting kit for a Karcher jet wash and they are great bits of kit.
  23. They can only charge what is reasonable - it’s enshrined in legislation. They have to show the charge is reasonable to complete the activity, and if it is a single inspection then £750 isn’t …
  24. Texecom Ricochet wireless - really good kit and easy to install. Can also be put onto a maintained contract if your insurance company wants it. I had an issue with a PSU board about 2 months after fitting and had one in my hand next day - after sales and their forum are really good for support. Have a shop around for prices - they do a couple of different sensors for PIR and also their micro door sensors are tiny, and come in different colours !
