  1. Living the dream here tonight! Could only pull the carpet (if you can call it that) back so much: Sod's Law I missed doing a clear hole and hit the threshold. Still theres a gap down into the void: For some of this! Galvanised cover plate on and hoovered up! Back to the telly! Discussed with my mate and when it happens well just open the patio doors and have a "gut it" weekend. Ceilings down, walls to bare brick / block and floors, inc joists out. Got to sort the play room as a temporary lounge before that!
  2. I'll be SO glad to gut this lounge & diner to the bare bones and redo! Where I went through the floor: The repair: This was a while back. The collapsed board I've replaced. The chewing was just above that corner where the skirting is.
  3. Sitting here with a beer watching Cobra Kai and there's a bastard trying to chew through the HARDBOARD (yes HARDBOARD ) wall about 2' from my elbow! Time to dig out the hole saw (Super Rod Cavity Master kit ) & chuck a hole through the CHIPBOARD (yes and not even flooring grade chipboard) floor and sling a freezer bag of Neosorexa Gold down there for it to munch on.
  4. All that needs is a soft lit glass display case over it to show it off!
  5. Just because it's all in a cupboard behind a door doesn't mean a lot in the context of these new regs. It's a blanket thing that wiring systems now be supported such that it'll not be subject to the support system collapsing in the event of fire. If then there's a chance of a fire starting in the airing cupboard it's an issue. Trouble is where does it stop? Fire in the loft causes the joists the cables are clipped to to collapse and so on.
  6. Kitchen looks good. Nice attention to detail from what I can make out. At least those subway tiles are wipe clean when you cover it in dust doing the other two walls. Get those other external gaps sorted though! Camera looks crap like mine!
  7. Resin anchored studding won't split the blocks...just fit to miss rafters / joists.
  8. 521.10.202 I referred to above; Note 3 "precludes" (the word used) the use of non metallic cable clips as the sole means of support where cables are clipped direct. The inference is that it applies to the whole installation. WTF they don't say that in plain English is beyond me. There is an IET circular somewhere I have that says "whole installation". If I can find I'll scan and post it. EDIT: Sorry, yes, "non metallic" i.e. plastic trunking as the sole means of support is a no no now. EDIT: Saves me finding/scanning the paper copy: https://electrical.theiet.org/bs-7671/18th-edition-changes/
  9. From a quick look in the BBB: Though it might be protected by virtue of being in the cupboard, behind a door, the reasoning for the cabling in trunking is down to "external influences" in this case an external heat source - i.e. the pipes. You've likely got 70degC pvc T&E near pipes hotter than that. The trunking provides protection against those expected external influences. By shielding the cable with the trunking you avoid the effects and tick the box. (See Section 522) Yep, 521.10.202 basically says you must support the cabling so as the support system doesn't collapse in the event of a fire. Stems from the LFB and other services entering buildings where there are still live cables hanging down as well as the danger to those evacuating the building.
  10. Lots of info at good old Paving Expert: http://www.pavingexpert.com/grano_01.htm
  11. Ta, at my leisure then! Going to tank, tile & grout the pocket first so I can work off the cover over the bath. Then I'll just have to work out of the bath to do the pocket side of the bath only.
  12. Like I said, as soon as it's finished I'll give you a shout and you can come and practice your handstands!
  13. I did something similar see page 54 for recipe:
  14. When tanking (Aquaseal kit) you first put on a primer, leave to dry for two hours then apply a horizontal coat of membrane and 6 hours later a vertical coat of membrane. Are those times set in stone? As in could I prime tonight, first coat of tanking tonight then second coat Friday? I've just primed. First coat of tanking will go on at 19.30 hrs tonight. I won't be up at 01.30hrs to do the second coat! Ta
  15. 99.9% sure that Airflow one from TLC is 230V but has a 24vdc motor in it. Some come with a separate 24vdc trannie. I might be at TLC Friday afternoon so will ask to have a look at one for you.
  16. Too late! With hindsight etc.
  17. I wanted to run to my towel rad with no joints in the 16mm pex-al-pex. Coukdnt get 'em tight enough!
  18. Then flexi ply: http://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemDescV4&item=182543296033&category=180971&pm=1&ds=0&t=1541417134000&ver=0&cspheader=1 If things get damp up there you'll get blown plaster too.
  19. I don't like the gap between the red of the boards and grey of the hex frame. You'd only see it from above....paint the frame black?
  20. Do the flexible 1/4" mdf in two layers. First one goes on and yes, the joint might appear as a bit of a "V" on plan. Second layer goes on with the joint offset to thd first as it'll be sitting on pure "curve". Would be perfect. Then x2 1/4" layers of flexi pb. The spread would love it...and probably get dizzy doing it!
  21. 4"x2" for the hex bits, some ply sheets to space nom 600 apart, then whatever bends around the inside. Screw sheet material to (green) boards:
  22. Out of interest I had a random water jetter near the OP price this up. To supply x2 8'x4' sheets of MDF/ply and cut into 24 identical ribs.....around £300+VAT. Customer collects. So...I reckon this can be done out of "planks" cut and screwed to form the octagon.
  23. @PeterW put @zoothorn onto some for his kitchen a while back.
  24. Are you fussed what it looks like from above? Looking through the roof light from above you'll see all the timber supports that are supporting the tube. What you want is a nice, neat, octagonal board to infill the hole! How deep is it btw, roughly?
  25. Bath pocket...mulled over a few designs for fitting the 2m LED strip. Settled on one now...I think! Decided I just want the "glow" when lying in the bath rather than to see the strip. First stage then, I Gorilla glued a couple of 12.5mm marine ply strips on to give a 1" deep lip: The aluminium track will sit up behind this. Tonight to form the horizontal "lip" maybe and start the tanking on this area. I can see that replacing this strip might be a pain! Should have used 25mm conduit! Tbh I could do with removing the light strip & cable whilst I do this. All a bit tight as the 25mm lip half covers the conduit now. Poor planning as usual!
