Soil stack to 110 drain -- the wrong way and right way
Tennentslager replied to TerryE's topic in Waste & Sewerage
No...not a jade green one! Pics please...must be worth a fortune somewhere to someone. Saw some tv show that had different colours of reclaimed stuff in their bathroom. Yellow sink, purple bath etc. Horribly brilliant -
It was all going so well

Yup I remortgaged recently and HSBC refused to accept online printed statements from Halifax...even though their own online service says paper free statements are acceptable for all purposes -

I replaced the diaphragm in the sipon a couple of times by making a new one out of a plastic milk carton but it only lasts 6 months so decided to replace the whole siphon. It's in my lads rental flat and I text the landlord to keep him informed. Helps keep us on good terms as he knows a plumber will take 50 squids... Anyhoo bought a siphon kit from screwfix for a fiver and set about it. Next day there's a leak from the close coupling. Top tip I didn't know, you must replace the big rubber donut each time you uncouple the cistern. It was only 1.90 but of course had to go back to screwfix again! The new one had settings for 6,8 or 9 ltr flush and I chose 9. No domestic water meters in glorious Scotia. What a difference this makes! All I will say is there are some big lads using this loo and the extra flush is so appreciated.

These old Berg tools are from Sweden and have a few quality features. Firstly the curved handles are ergonomic and intended so that you can open and close the jaws by dipping you 4th and 5th fingers. The curve of the pliers are ideal and you grab the shoe upper and rock on the hammer using leverage to get it nice and tight. Pop a nail in place with your free hand let go and use the hammer to chap home....and repeat... They are beautifully balanced and easy to spin around a la a gunslinger from a Western?? They are called lasting pliers. Most shoemakers will have three pair s of different sizes with the small ones having a narrow clamp, maybe 4/5mm across. These are used for going around the toe area to make nice neat little pleats.

knock down internal wall?
Tennentslager replied to Tennentslager's topic in General Construction Issues
I'll take a pic and report back. Like the idea of the first swing of a sledgehammer...Just got to map the heating pipes and cables first. There's many sockets on this internal wall, does this mean a new consumer unit? Thought I'd read if your doing some work like this it triggers a regs update on other electicals? -

1964 standard 3 bed semi. SWMBO fancies a kitchen/diner. The wall between the dining area and kitchen is brick or block and 120mm thick. Runs parallel with the 1st floor joists. Above is a bathroom and bedroom but the wall between these is NOT directly above the wall I'd like to remove. It's about 400mm out. What investigations must I do? I know I'll need a building warrant and an electrician and plasterer but is this diy able??

Advice on correcting plasterboard seams covered with Artex
Tennentslager replied to 8ball's topic in Plastering & Rendering
I'd leave it to the plasterer, the difference will be nothing to him. -
Phone the local TA and offer the troops some hard cash. Beer money for a few hours of many hands and all that... Maybe?

I'm setting up a new office for 14 and need a planning tool. I can get Microsoft Project for 55 squids...Is it any good? Is there a free program that will help for this task. To be honest I can do it using pencil and paper but want something that I can use in a grant submission that will look more slick and professional.

Spontaneously exploding shower glass
Tennentslager replied to DavidFrancis's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
We had a glass table top from IKEA do this in one of our offices. Was an old style trestle with a thick glass top. In the past I've stood on them to change a light bulb! Colleagues came in in the morning and the whole room was covered as if the thing exploded. -
