Quite, but even you use some 🤷‍♂️ and if excess is available at other times then storage of some sort is a way forward surely.

I made wooden springs for a camper conversion bed years ago, each was 3” wide 3mm ply strips x5 glued together and clamped to a curved former, worked brilliantly. I recently did a factory tour with my son to the Morgan factory where they still use the same former and clamps over 60 years old to make the rear wheel arch (I can highly recommend visiting the Morgan factory).

Christmas challenge: Faking a stove's radiative feel

Nah, the real thing can’t be beat (sorry I was listening to top gear). IMG_0327.mov -
This still sounds to me like the trusses are not “fit for purpose” or installed properly. On my build the roof was not built for future development (not trusses but “I” joists) and that was boarded out and loads of stuff in storage plus working up there to complete the house and NO cracks appeared in the following 4 years .

Levelling Floor on concrete slab (with timber battens)
joe90 replied to delta9's topic in General Flooring
I have battened an uneven floor just using ply packers, find the highest spot, start there and pack everywhere else to get a level. I didn’t use insulation (customer decided against it 🤷‍♂️) I then laid oak flooring direct to the battens. -

Would “wet cutting” not be better than dry cutting? -
Having read all the above it strikes me that the trusses are not fit for the extra loading, you say “for future development” can you expand on that @Barryscotland

A “clerk of works” springs to my mind ! Are they still a thing?, on our self builds I guess that’s us 🤷‍♂️ A clerk of works inspects the workmanship, quality and safety of work on construction sites and reports back to senior managers and clients. As a clerk of work, you'd be conducting regular site inspections and checking that building plans are being followed correctly. -
Yes I have one of those and rate it (and a small one for mostly electrical tools).

I still have my “tin” one like above, it’s only 51 years old 🤣 but when full of spanner’s very heavy. I have two “tote” type bags, big one like you posted for bigger stuff and a small one for smaller tools, fits the bill for me 👍

Interesting info. https://p8ntballer-forums.com/threads/planning-permission.178009/

I had some garage floor paint that was 6 years old and despite stirring lots it had lumps and didn’t leave a decent surface (tried on a small area) I binned it and bought some new stuff, glad I did. Give it a try on a small area.(no I didn’t thin it and gave it two coats),.

But have they applied for planning??? Or it just a rumour 🤷‍♂️

joe90 replied to Temp's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I have never used this method as I wanted to know from day one what BC passed as acceptable Yes and I, for one, would like to understand what went wrong. I wonder what the total cost for this “cock up” is 🤷‍♂️ -
Well the council won’t know anything if it’s just a rumour they will need to apply for planning then the council will know and you have the opportunity to view the details and object if you have valid grounds,

But, is it the builders fault or the building control, and if it’s building control why should the developer suffer financial loss? -
Wow, at least they recognised your passion for developing this building but as you say it’s an uphill battle. One thing I think I heard was you are not retaining the cat slide roof but building a curved one? Is this correct? I can see that as not retaining local vernacular. I nearly bought a listed building once and certainly glad now I didn’t because of all this red tape and personally I think we retain too many listed buildings. Best of luck, best foot forward,

Sorry to hear that, can you be more specific on what was rejected, what do you need to modify?
