Never thought of that, tho I can say it’s not been an issue for me (so far ?). I suppose if the dishwasher pipe entered the drain after the trap, water in the pipe would act as it’s own trap!

IVT Ecolane ASHP - any owners out there?
joe90 replied to readiescards's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
@PeterW well done mate, glad you didn’t have the problems I had with mine!!! -
AH just read the small print, didn’t realise THEY got the RHI payment ?. Like most I did not bother with RHI as my house is built too well!!!.

@Ricco just did a quick search on Ebay and found this, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FREE-LG-Air-Source-Heat-Pump-FREE-Solar-batteries-Installed/253975413998?hash=item3b221d44ee:g:h2kAAOSwjXBbuyE0 equates to £1600 over 7 years, I have not read the small print but it looks a good deal. I found a Kingspan 4 Kw ASHP and paid £850 for it and bought all the bits and installed it myself (with a bit of help from a neighbour plumber). If you read my threads it was not an easy journey and I had a few setbacks but I believe (now it’s working) that it was worth the punt.

Yup, I guess so. ?. It’s the opposite of heating, unless you can feel heat radiating at you it must be cold!

Fixing joists to the wallplate
joe90 replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Construction Issues
I usually use props, one each end, two pieces of 2x4 slightly too long (floor to under side of wallplate) wedged under the wallplate, hanger and joist, makes sure they all line up then pop in the sheradised twist nails. Same as I do to put up plasterboard ceilings on my own. I have seen many examples of hangers installed badly with a gap under the joist where the hanger is not flat to the underside of the joist, bad practise IMO and a bugger to get plasterboard fitted tight to ceiling. -
Exactly, we do have a WBS and plenty of wood ?.

I used to live in Shrewsbury, nice area, sorry don’t know anyone any more.
-
Impressive, mine should be good down here In Devon ?♂️.
-
@Stones, that’s very good figures, what water temp do you have for heating and what temp for DHW?
-
I wish my other half felt the same, because she can’t rack up the stat and feel radiant heat from a source she thinks it’s cold in here (despite friends visiting for a long weekend and saying how warm the house felt). Also despite the MVHR (and my waxing lyrical about @JSHarris doing an analysis on it and opening windows) she still insists on opening a window and complaining it’s cold. I’m going out to the garage (man shed) ?

So it might but it’s still crap, I used to fit kitchens and I would never leave one looking like that.

Daikin Altherma ASHP Heat Output Issue
joe90 replied to GHDirect's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
Just re read the carrier command units advanced programming and parameter 2 is home antifreeze , if actuated it goes into antifreeze even if the system is off, parameter 3 sets the threshold temp at which it operates. However it still might be worth the cost of the antifreeze in case of power failures etc. -
Daikin Altherma ASHP Heat Output Issue
joe90 replied to GHDirect's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
So, have I been mis informed and the ASHP needs antifreeze not inhibitor???? this from a screwfix antifreeze/inhibitor product, no mention of ASHP? Effective frost protection, limescale and corrosion control. Suitable for all heating types, including those containing aluminium. Compatible with No Nonsense products. Suitable for use with underfloor systems and ground source heat pumps (GSHP). For use in accordance with BS 7593 code of practice for treatment of water in domestic hot water central heating systems. Dilute at point of use. Addition rate: 25% of system volume. -
@Christine Walker, I felt a bit like that myself trying to get my ASHP working, mine however was a self design and Ebay cheapy but it’s working now so don’t give up hope, lots of experts on here to help you.

Just found this. Also be sure to ask about our 3 year warranty and 30-day returns guarantee when you buy from LED Hut. ?

That still leaves a big hole in the right hand sink plumbing (unless there is a blank in there I cannot see in the pic)

Controlling individual room temps with one zone
joe90 replied to joe90's topic in Underfloor Heating
Thanks @PeterW, yes we have equal spacing in the floor loops. Rather than doing calculations I think I will just trim it by trial and error till er indoors is happy ?. -
We also have a woodburner for chilly evenings and despite being told we would overheat if we used it we have not (so far).
-
Right, apart from trimming, my system is up and running ??. For those that are interested this is how I set mine up. The ASHP via a diverter valve heats either the 90litre buffer tank for the UFH or the DHW tank. There are timers on both in case we use E7 or E10 in the future but for now both permenantly on. The DHW tank has a stat to call for heat when required. The heating is set to a water temp of 40’ (programming in the command unit). The buffer tank also has a stat to call for heat when the tank cools. The room stat controls the UFH manifold pump. During the winter the buffer tank will always be charged and when the heating is required we don’t have to wait for the ASHP to heat the buffer then the slab which could take some time. P.S. I had to modify the room stat back to its original power output and not dry contacts for this configuration.? all comments welcome.

I think that the two stubs on the vertical pipes may have blanks in them that can be removed and your dishwasher pipe connected to either of them with a jubilee clip!! Longer waste pipes or extenders are available on Ebay. I would be more worried about the open socket on your right hand sink!, is there another overflow to be connected to it?. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSAL-Dishwasher-Waste-Long-Drain-Hose-Pipe-Extension-Connection-Kit-2-5m/311895640743?_trkparms=aid%3D555017%26algo%3DPL.CASSINI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D55148%26meid%3D90e7ad9517c44b72a8e8bbd4d9a92fd5%26pid%3D100505%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26%26itm%3D311895640743&_trksid=p2045573.c100505.m3226

Daikin Altherma ASHP Heat Output Issue
joe90 replied to GHDirect's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
There should be no requirement for antifreeze in the UFH loops as they are within the house. My system uses a buffer tank so the water in the UFH loops and that in the ASHP are separate. My ASHP has an auto anti freeze mode whereby if freezing temps are seen it will kick in so again anti freeze is not required. I have put inhibitor in the ASHP loop because of the different metals therein. Glycol is required for a GSHP and is one of the reasons they are more expensive to fit/maintain.afaik. -
Hi @Ballynoes, I have installed an ASHP and will be using it for UFH via a buffer tank and also heating DHW. I believe the trick is to limit the water temps so the ASHP does not go into defrost mode, some here say 40’ will do that but others say they are getting hogher DHW temps. Mine is only just working so I cannot give you actual figures but other here will. I do believe it also depends on your location and weather conditions.ASHP,s are used in countries with very low temps but also low humidity.

I chose wilo for my pumps because of their low noise and low power consumption.
