  1. Thanks guys for a prompt reply, (it’s a bit like Christmas ?)
  2. I have a new large workshop with my new build, a classic kit car, a classic tractor (to cut the meadow, honest). And the wife’s ageing mx5. I really really fancy a two post lift as I am getting too old to lie on my back under a car on axle stands. If I tell SWMBO that i can service her car if I get one I won’t get grief “buying more tools”. Up till now I “need” these tools to build our new house!.i have found a new one for £1200 delivered and second hand 3 phase £380 plus delivery.
  3. I don’t remember who was responsible but a car lift for the garage was mentioned on a thread and I can’t stop thinking of increasing my tool count, question for the boffins, how difficult/expensive is it to convert from three phase to single phase?. There are several second hand two post lifts on Ebay fir a third of the price of a new one but they are all three phase.
  4. That’s a solution I have never heard of before and it makes sense! But it will have to be the same depth as the joists to carry the ceiling below. (Nail a bit on! ).
  5. Make sure you flush it well before connecting up.
  6. Well my builder was great, I could not find one fault with anything they did and they were always open to discussion on how things should be done (my theory versus their knowledge ?).
  7. Thats the problem, when mounted they are pointing at the sky, unless you are working at night in total darkness the panels will be generating . Hence my question about covering them in black pvc to stop them generating whilst the connection is taking place?
  8. As someone who DIY,s everything they can, is it not possible to cover the panels in black pvc to stop the panels generating whilstyou connect them up?.
  9. We have been told this but my insulated DHW tank does not heat the airing cupboard like my wife would like! (Water at 47’ ish) I am doing the same as @ProDave and will monitor bills but I have confirmed with my supplier (green energy) that they do E7 and E10 and plan to go to one of them when the house settles down (and I get time!!!).
  10. I’ll get my pencil sharpened ?.
  11. Takes me back to when the plasterers finished and the liquid floor screed was put down this time last year (in a very wet Devon) windows were running with condensation despite a small dehumidifier running 24/7, so we hired two commercial units and ran them fir nearly two weeks as the only way to dry out the building. The MVHR was not run at all to avoid any problems.
  12. Yes, I also have two immersions In my DHW tank which I used to supply hot water whilst I got my ASHP working, it would be easy to wire the lower one to use excess PV. YES I did mine but it was a steep learning curve (see my threads on ASHP set up) and thanks to many guru’s on here I managed it ?
  13. Yes mate, I have two sealed loops, one for the ASHP with antifreeze/inhibitor and one for the UFH with no additive. Mains water only flows into the bottom of the DHW tank and hot out the top to taps.
  14. Thanks Nick at least it works (now that you guru’s have helped me so much).
  15. I am surprised that SA have not come back about this, there is plenty of feedback info on this site alone?
  16. After the professionals have posh diagrams on here mine seems very DIY, but hey ho here we go. The inhibitor water is limited to the ASHP, and tank coils (with their connected pipework). The UFH loop is pressured to about 1 bar. As is the ASHP loop. As I said tho, I have no PV .
  17. I’m with @ProDave on this one, and have done this myself, hanger fixed to joist first, difficult to hold the nail but you can swing a hammer in a 50mm gap. I like the magnet on a stick idea ?, wot about https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001C7NN86/ref=asc_df_B001C7NN8657405348/?tag=googshopuk-21&creative=22110&creativeASIN=B001C7NN86&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309816003291&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7569780515085895972&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=t&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045292&hvtargid=pla-425415221212&th=1&psc=1
  18. Will do later mate?
  19. @Big Neil I could draw you a diagram of our setup if you want but as you have P.V. It might be better if you list what you have/want and there are plumbing guru,s on this forum that will give you better advise ?
  20. In my case I heat a buffer tank 90ltr through a coil with my ASHP. the water in this buffer tank is circulated through the UFH manifold by a pump (when the room stat calls for heat). In the pipework from the ASHP (flow) there is a diverter valve which when there is a call fir DHW the valve operates and the DHW tank is heated (as a priority) when the DHW tank is up to temp the valve releases and is available to heat the buffer again. I have no P.V.
  21. The water is fed in a loop going back to the boiler/buffer tank, it’s temp will still be above room temp ready to be topped up again and recirculated.
  22. as far as I know all my building materials were UK sourced (certainly the main items) perhaps some fittings were imported. The Germans are very interested in buying their own and we used to try and “buy British” perhaps we should try that again, in fact a Brexit may focus us to produce more of our own. The remouners keep talking about the EU being 40% of our trade, that means that 60% is with the rest of the world, and countries that are fast overtaking the EU. I have thought for quite a while that the EU is a failing “state” and far too interested in its own self.
  23. I am of the opinion that all this doom and gloom if we leave is not correct. Not one prediction by the “experts” after the vote two years ago have come true. I liked the channel 4 Brexit debate last night.
  24. Brilliant idea @Tennentslager, her indoors wants to keep her mx5 in my garage but I told her “no room” (mine has to go in as it has no roof!). Better not put mine up top as it drips oil ?. I have a reason to spend the money now to keep SWMBO happy ?
  25. That’s good to hear and what I had presumed. I could live with a two poster as my workshop will have my classic car in it all the time and could park it between the posts, if I need extra room for woodwork (long lengths into machines, the car could go outside and timber lengths easily manouvered (I hear myself talking me into one of these soon ?)
