Yes, despite electric UFH in the en suite and towel rad on 24/7 my wife tuts about the bedroom temp, it’s 22’ downstairs. Because we are in a very windy situation I believe the wind cools the upstairs more than most. During the summer the temp with no heating was about the same everywhere. I shall order more wood for the WBS,!

Confused by MDPE mains water pipe price variation.

Other people used to laugh at me because I always had about 6 or 8 tapes on site, but with that many you could always find one wherever you were!. -
I must admit I bought a decent set of trade steps after my “shed” pair collapsed under me and I was very lucky not to have broken anything (apart from the steps). I would never buy cheap steps again. It’s like most things, decent tools do a better job.

I think the 1 bar is worst case senario, we were told water pressure out here in the sticks was not good and we get 6 bar !!!!

No, afaic only the rubber part should be a friction fit on the ribbed bit, where did you get it from?, can you take your hose off the machine and take it to where you bought the extension. Frustrating that such minor work seems to take forever !!!! Also take the other bit off the pipe under the sink (if it will come off) to make sure that end fits as well.

Have you paid them?, if not just tell them you are not going to, as what they supplied is not what you ordered which makes them not fit for purpose . If you have paid them, tell them you either want them replaced with what you ordered or your money back and if that is not forthcoming you will take them to the small claims court. Simples.

Rather than trestles I use scaffold tower sections, multiples of 2’, dont put the boards on the top, one or two layers lower then you have a handrail either side. I have a short ladder that I tie on to climb up. Advantage also is you can drag the whole thing around whereas trestles you have to dismantle. If you have a long section (conservatory guttering for example) two short towers and planks between. A year ago my knees were fine but this year so much worse, my tower is like this. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Steel-Scaffold-Tower-With-Boards-Accessories/292832824126?hash=item442e324b3e:g:Q2YAAOSwVP5b-pLN

Right, I don’t do CAD but here is a sketch of the block I made for each newel post, it’s tapered in two directions so it needs no fixings like screws etc, a friction fit only. A corresponding hollow is created in each end of the hand rail so the rail can be lowered onto the blocks and tapped tight. I used oak, yes it would not take lots of dismantling but for the odd occasion I think it will work fine. The spindles simply fit into square holes both top and bottom so fiddly to line up but again worth it IF you need it too.

I will do a little diagram and post it tomorrow.

Glad it wasn’t you Ian, let the supplier sort it and explain it’s urgent and holding up work. I once worked on a loft conversion for a friend and we were installed an RSJ in the ridge, crane arrived, road blocked, steel lifted ........and that was 100mm short, friend forgot to add 100mm EACH end, very embarrassing for him and costly ?

There was someone on another forum who had a well insulated block house with UFH which he ran on an electric radiator element and had it set to one degree (21’) above his required house temp(20’) and he found it self regulated in that if the house was up to temp the stat for the element just turned it off. He has been using this for quite some time and found it worked very well for him. The ultimate kiss solution ?.

After finally getting the ASHP working my wife asked how to control the heating, I showed her the room stat in the hallway. After she went to work I looked and it was racked up to 23’. Bugger, I should have made it a “false” controller.?

I hate winders. I would have them only if absolutely no room for anything else.

Mine is stairbox as well, all oak and they supplied the oak for the landing floor and handrails. The spindles are from a foundry near hull. The top landing handrail is removable, along with the spindles to aid furniture going upstairs.

Yes, I had four toilets in my last house and someone said “gosh you must use a lot of water!”. I was speechless (for once).

I did this, but bought two short staircases and built the half landing myself, originally it was two quarter landing with a step between them but this was expensive and difficult to build, making my own half landing in situ was easy and fitting two short staircases to it a doddle.

I was lambasted years ago on another forum for having a power shower but I take a lot less time in it than most people which does not seem to count. I would rather spend 3 minutes in a decent shower than 10 in a poor one.

as a practising Luddite I have no idea what your talking about ?

@JSHarris we also have switched lighting sockets in our house (ours are 5 amp) and we have two places where we wished we had installed them so if you do find an off the shelf solution my wife will be very gratefull ?.

Fixing joists to the wallplate

Not heard of that one before but very simple and effective , it’s what I would do in future but not planning another build ? -
In our last temporary house back in Bristol, it had double glazing but no trickle vents and if we forgot to open a window before sleeping we would wake in the night feeling “not right” we put that down in the end to lack of oxygen/excess carbon dioxide. This new house is nothing like that.

I am glad of that, I do know my bath (great big roll top) would not pass regs (I think I remember regs cover bath size/water usage) and if the BI pulls me up on it I will tell him I will put in a tiny bath, get it signed off then simply put my lovely bath back in!!! (He has been great so far so don’t think it will be an issue. ?
