Not sure why you need to top up to 62’ (previous discussion here confirms no domestic legionella risk) I don’t, mine is 47’ and quite adequate fir all our DHW needs (plus DHW tank losses greatly reduced at this temp).

Interesting, I spouted something similar some time ago with regard icing, saying I am sure it’s possible to “instruct” the ASHP to switch itself off if it was about to “defrost” (by sucking heat back out of the house). When trying to set my “kingspan” ASHP the programming was very confusing and in my opinion ambiguous, thanks to @JSHarris I got it working( but not sure I understand it yet)

As we are near the Atlantic and currently have a modest breeze so it’s more comfortable to have the MVHR off, windows and doors open open. Windows still open at night for night purge.
-
Thanks guys, makes sense, so will continue to think of E7 for the future.

PV Self-Comsumption Model for sizing system + battery.
joe90 replied to Dan F's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
Perhaps I could get hold of an old analogue meter and instal it with some solar PV. ?. -
Ha, just rushed upstairs to close curtains and don’t need to, the 500mm roof overhang shades the upstairs windows perfectly. (It’s good when a plan comes together?)

In my south facing conservatory with all windows and doors open and a slight breeze it’s 31.5. in the house with windows shut it’s 24.2. Not bad for having no active cooling (yet!). After the hottest day (predicted) yet to find how warm the bedrooms are tonight , (bugger, forgot to shut the curtains, hot foot upstairs then!).

Will they work without a mobile signal? (I think I read that on here somewhere). -
Just been stood in front of my ASHP getting cool whilst it tops up the DHW as it’s scorching down here and wondered if they were more efficient in hot weather?.there is more heat in the air during this hot weather, if I run it on E7 it will run at night when the air is cooler so less air heat is available. Am I barking up the wrong tree?

PV Self-Comsumption Model for sizing system + battery.

Ah I said (at a deemed rate), I am sure a “smart” meter could go backwards at “payback rate” but go forward at “consumption rate”. -

I know I am a simpleton but why can they not have meters that run backward and forward (at a deemed rate) simples! -
Earth bonding Copper incoming mains with all plastic internal plumbing
joe90 replied to Jody's topic in General Plumbing
Be a shame to have to dig it up after you have finished, best do it now I reckon. -
I am another who used 200mm earth wool above DPC and extruded poly below as per golcar https://www.greenbuildingstore.co.uk/golcar-passivhaus-ground-floor-foundations/ bricklayers were good (no snots in the cavity) and inserted it as they went.

Roof Slates weird after Velux installation... ???
joe90 replied to Repsac's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
I agree with @Declan52 about brackets in wrong position, velux too high in roof, kicking slates up. -
Nah, what could possibly go wrong ?????.tho I agree with @JSHarris about alloy tube being lighter and more manouvarable (if you’ve got some?).

Internal partition walls Stud work Vs block work
joe90 replied to romario's topic in General Construction Issues
Our stud walls are only between two guest bedrooms (one a part time office) and another around built in wardrobes so I did not priorities it, all others are heavy block, if studs were anywhere else I would have double boarded and staggered timbers. (I wish I had double boarded or/and resilience bars on all downstairs ceilings. -
Yet another to say it’s ok, mine were proud by about the same amount and no comment from the plasterers

Discount Offers of the Week
joe90 replied to Ferdinand's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
My ASHP is an Ebay special and only 4Kw for a 240sq house, UFH and DHW and copes very well. -
Length of 2x4 (longer than width of window) screwed to top of ladder to bridge the window resting on the brickwork either side ( note, I used to be a climber and don’t hold with all this health and safety stuff, bit like @JSHarris mounting his new external kit!!!).
-
Difficult to see from the pic but I reckon a ladder would rest on the lintel/brick above the window.
-
Quite hot here yesterday, my son and I stood by the ASHP whilst it was heating the DHW getting a blast of nice cold air!!!, he remarked “was it possible to duct that cold air back into the house “?. I may look into cooling the slab (after I get the last 90% of work done) but do wonder how often, for our location, it would be needed. These are the temps we go on holiday abroad for!!,!
-
Or put the original plates on (temporarlly) as @JSHarris has a private plate!!! (When I got my private plate I kept the originals in the boot “in case” ?).

My experience of Bristol was good (avonmouth) but a family member went to one near the centre and his van had been converted to a camper, windows and seats etc but the tax disc still said “van” (or whatever) and he was refused entry. Down here in Devon they are a bit pedantic, on my way to the tip I saw a tyre in a hedge and being a Good Samaritan I picked it up to take with me, I was told I would have to pay £2.50 to tip it and when I explained I was picking up fly tipped stuff they did not care, so I took it away and told them I would put it back in the hedge and ring the council to send a truck and staff to collect it . Go figure. ANPR is easy to get round with black tape.

Internal partition walls Stud work Vs block work
joe90 replied to romario's topic in General Construction Issues
You can use 75mm stud, just stagger them so they overlap without touching.
