Wet plaster, block, wide cavity with beads or batts, brick, (I don’t like render, needs maintenance).

Design considerations for new homes
joe90 replied to SteamyTea's topic in Energy Efficient & Sustainable Design Concepts
Oh I do love an optimist (they been saying this for years). -
Actually that looks good, I too may need a little extra heat in bedrooms in very cold weather so might get one myself. ha, out of stock but just ordered one of these on EBay, worth a punt. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124984666311?_trkparm

Design considerations for new homes
joe90 replied to SteamyTea's topic in Energy Efficient & Sustainable Design Concepts
That’s because it was designed to go on the garage roof i only use timber felled on site because it needs trimming, room sealed and like @ProDave would buy another her indoors and guests????? only because I was overruled on an induction hob yes, in hindsight I would have provided more (I have 20.20 hindsight). -
Design considerations for new homes
joe90 replied to SteamyTea's topic in Energy Efficient & Sustainable Design Concepts
This is the main reason that fir my retirement house it was a new build and not a renovation like I have been doing for many years. No compromises. We have thick (400mm) walls and the common comment is “your rooms must be small”, but the walls are added to the room size so the outside dimensions are greater. I cannot think of anything with our new build that is a compromise ?. (But I had been planning it fir aver 20 years ?). -
Cream, remember it well , my BCO (nice chap), just looked at my roll top bath and said “don’t suppose you fill it right up eh?”
-
no because if they did not fit you would be in for a heap of trouble. It’s nice when a plan comes together ?

I still use a garden trowel I made as a lad at school metalwork class decades ago ?

3mm natural slate spacing, why so large?
joe90 replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
My slates were automatically spaced because we used clips (about 2-3 mm), I guess the gap is for expansion (they can get quite hot being black!). -
Yes (could not be me, I wear a mask ?)

Wot @markc said ?

Most .ASHP deliver DHW hotter than UFH so it will run harder. Mine only delivers one temp, set to 48’ in my case but yes it does work harder in colder weather.

Depends if the ground is “made up”, I.e. new ground?, if it’s been walked on for years and not been disturbed it won’t need loads of sub base.

Pete, my electrician is Solar qualified, does a lot round our area, can get you his number if you need it ?

Widening Fireplace to have more room around log burner
joe90 replied to Whitefusion's topic in Stoves, Fires & Fireplaces
It will but will give you only 125mm thick brickwork per side of the external flue walls, you will need to then corbel the brickwork on each side to support the sides above ?- 27 replies
