Looks good to me!, have you thought about composite decking that last longer and does not decay and rot like wood? (I have just replaced my brothers decking due to rot, but it did last 14 years 🤷♂️.

Wot @ProDave says, if I were to fit the post to that steel I would weld a substantial steel tube (300mm long) to the steel and bore into the post bottom to sit tight over the tube, fix with countersunk nut and bolt right through.

I think it looks more like zinc or some other “aluminium” type, looks too flat for lead but as @markc says difficult without touch/feel ing it!. Again why an access hatch?

How does your garden grow?

Well it’s like autumn here, leaves on the trees turning brown and falling off 😱 -
No, if you DIY (like I am going to) you cannot claim £ fir the generation to the grid, it’s just used as a dump fir unused lecky. So use as much as you can, if you had an EV you could dump to this.

If it were me I would put 2 diagonals across the deck to keep it square, make sure the deck if flat (or a slight slope to dissipate rain) with temporary props, put the pointy bit in the hole on the stone bit to stop or sinking, mark where you need to cut the post and rebate, after cutting fit and bolt after checking vertical then pour concrete in hole 👍

Morning Pat, sorry to hear this , can you not estimate your usage from you meter readings so you could be aware of the cost in the future?

Ha, those who know me here know I am a Luddite and I do not “do” data, I just tend to copy people who get it Right 🤣🤣🤣🤣 my whole build was finger in the air (and lots of copying others) 🤷♂️

See what @JohnMo says above. All I am saying is it’s best to use what’s available, when it’s available.

But does that rule out DIY instal?

I have an ASHP and considering PV, with UFH and a large DHW tank I plan to time the ASHP to come on at at 11am and off at 4pm, therefore if the sun is shining the ASHP will use as much as it needs, and you can override it if required.

Just shift the catchplate !🤷♂️
-
Ha, just worked my usage out and it’s almost the same as Dave above (and I have no PV , YET!!!) 👍🥳

This does not surprise me, my neighbour had an architect design his extension, when he showed me the plans for my opinion I told him it would not work (again roof height vs junction and doorway), I came up with the solution for him, he told his architect to alter the drawings and he was not going to pay for additional cost for this as it was his mistake in the first place. Most architects drawings have dimensions on them (which should be accurate) but the notes say “do not scale from the drawing to arrive at dimensions missing”.

Not uncommon on additional walls, separate foundations, not tied in etc, just fill it with flexible mastic to stop damp entering it.
