1st floor beam and block v timber floor Price comparison
Russell griffiths replied to Canski's topic in Floor Structures
Cons, you will probably need a crane to install beams or planks. So £6-700 for that, unless you can get a big truck with hiab. 100mm void needed below for ducts. -
Have you got a digger, make a pair of timber tongs for a mini digger, short bit of chain and tongs.

Sewage treatment plant - air blower electricity costs
Russell griffiths replied to David Essex's topic in Waste & Sewerage
My Graf unit comes with a computer control working the timer and pumped outlet. It runs for 6 mins on 4 mins off, I was told having it off for longer there is a greater risk of sludge blocking the holes in the air tube. -
The steel will have a large foot welded to it, like a 12mm plate, this extends over the cavity and onto the outer brickwork.
-
Not if you want to get out in a fire.

That’s a dog shit finish, sockets should have been unscrewed and then masked as well. You would only paint around if it was a moody rental property.

Found a serious leak under the sink

He’s looking rather grumpy. -
Easier to get a truck that mixes-on site, you will need two fit helpers and 3 barrows. Will be about £550 plus vat.

Raft Foundation Costs Estimate
Russell griffiths replied to BristolBuild2020's topic in Costing & Estimating
Your building a house, not a patio, why are you talking in 800kg bags, you get 3 15 tonne truck loads at £450 a truck. Stop thinking Like a diy bloke and think like a construction guy. -
Tell nobody,

Most screws work, but avoid very cheap ones, normally £20 a box roughly.

flexi woodfibre in a pitched roof, insulating from below
Russell griffiths replied to 6boys's topic in Heat Insulation
Buy a roll of packing banding. 1000m roll is about £30 then a good quality staple gun. run a row of banding on face of joists, have others pre cut put insulation in and staple a band over it. I did 355m on my own like this. -
Instead of fitting a pre formed tray and filling in the edges, why not buy a tray former that is too big and trim it down to get the waste where you need it.
-
If it’s a new build you shouldn’t need to raise it at all, there must be a way to get the waste out.
-
Xps high density foam, or get a sheet of marmot board and cut up, or buy the shulter curb.
-
Have done a curb previously, which was basically a row of bricks, then screed inside to the required fall, then waterproof system on top and over the curb.
-
With a budget of £150 you need to do a lot yourself including design, get all your ideas down and talk to them. That budget will just get you the extension, don’t waste it trying to get an award winning architect to come up with some fantastic design, it will just get your hopes up for something you cannot afford to finish. Keep it simple, nice family area, good working space, no fancy things and you can do it. But get carried away and your budget will disappear by the time you have a shell up.

ICF cold bridging
Russell griffiths replied to Startfish's topic in Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF)
What do you mean by cold bridging, your windows will certainly be the weak link in the insulation game. However you will probably get more overheating problems with that much glass as opposed to heat loss. -
What on Earth are you doing, I can do a full days work on one 4 amp hour battery.

Is normal underground piping any good for ducting?
Russell griffiths replied to Arnold9801's topic in Ventilation
Ducting for what, mvhr, or to run cables through?? -
Depends what other tools you have, stick with the same battery configuration as the rest, I have the dewalt one and just put about 10,000 screws through it without any problem.
-
How far do you need to extend it, if only a couple of metres then forget mdpe as you have to buy a 25m coil. Just go and get a 3m length of hep pipe and a straight connector and a hep washing machine tap. Will save you loads of cash and it’s all available from toolstation.
-
Should be 50mm up to protect it from screws. One hole in that location is not going to affect anything. But it is good practice to put it central of the joist.
-
By the time you have paid for that you could buy better windows with more available colours.
