  1. Don't put the dunny anywhere near where the workers will have their breaks. As far away as possible
  2. Taps still on though???
  3. Think you need a goat or possibly a giraffe.
  4. If it doesn't like rain then it ain't going to work in NI!!
  5. How does it work the cuttings?? How long do you get in a charge?? Is it noisy or could it be done at night time?? How much of the boundary wire do you get?? I would have maybe 200m plus of a boundary.
  6. Vegetable oil
  7. How are you getting it from the chute to the founds, digger bucket, dumper, pump or poured straight in??
  8. Hello sir can I get 42m3 of c25 concrete delivered at 8:30am on Monday morning. Always order extra. If they have to send out a lorry with just 1m3 on it you will pay for that big time.
  9. The easy option is to put all the insulation in the cavity. Go for 150mm and get the beads blown in. Will be better for the brickies as they don't have to put the insulation in. Better for you as you will end up with no gaps in the cavity. Plus you don't need to fork out the cash to get the beads done until way later on in your build. You will on loose 100mm from wall to wall. To get round the bigger reveal you can do a splayed window opening. Easy done with a concrete saw and blocks. Wet plaster the inside. Seals it up much better.
  10. The prep work is as always key as you say. I need to dig out 100mm of top soil and then wack in quarry dust as my base. Overall there is approx 60sqm to do in a L shape layout. As I need a golf ball to roll on it the pile is quite short so all the samples I have seen so far look the near enough the same. For the 30mm deep luxury grass you can see the difference in the good stuff and the crap. Some are really thick and others patchy.
  11. So it looks like a full on garden revamp is on the to do list with the main item being artificial grass. As a keen golfer I am looking for a shorter pile , 11-16mm, and the wide variety on offer isnt helping. There is a range store close to me and they do a grass that is £10 a sqm. And at the other end of the scale there are companies close by doing golf suitable grass for £30 sqm. The roll from the range looks dead on to me but it's only available in 2m wide rolls. The other stuff comes 4m wide so I will have a lot more seams to join up. Has anyone put anything similar in their gardens and more specifically for anyone from Northern Ireland who did yours.
  12. Camping gas stove???
  13. For about the first month I had it drilled into the kids that before they showered to go into the utility room and hit the boost button. I reckon they done it maybe twice and then just gave up. Am in my house 3 1/2 years now and while it's not as fast as a normal extractor fan it will still clear the room of any steam within 5 mins.
  14. Depending on your type of joists there will be timber or metal straps between them that stop the twisting element. My middle wall is near 15m long and only a single block wide and it is carrying the weight of the roof from the attic truss. I packed between the block and truss with slate to stop the flex.
  15. It's the compressive strength of blocks that enable it you do what you need it to. Your single skin wall will carry a lot more than you need it to. Where ever you get your blocks from will be able to supply you with a data sheet of their blocks. Here you will get the different loadings that they carry. They can be anywhere up to 2.5t per sqm.
  16. You have had the best 2 weeks weather in a long time. Should have a lovely colour now, was definitely taps aff.
  17. Happy days then. If your build is near enough the same height as his then just use his.
  18. Can you get a string line from the base of the new house to yours with our any thing fouling it???
  19. On the plan is there an entrance marked. Scale of this point to the nearest corner. You will need to use points both sides of the entrance to the same corner to give you an accurate measurement. The rest is just using Pythagoras to get you your corners. Once it's roughly set out as 4 corners then you can see how it sits and move it whatever way you need to. You will need a big metal tape measure, won't stretch like a plastic tape, wooden stakes and string line. And another pair of hands. It's not hard to do but will take a few hrs and a few different positions to get it where it finally needs to be.
  20. Always used metal strap under Neath the pipe and pulled up over the beam and nailed into the blocks. They should be supported by stone and gravel that was used to backfill the founds. The metal straps are a just incase what has been backfilled sinks. Never have them sitting on bricks. Seen a lot of builders bury all the crap of the day in them and then cover it over with a sprinkle of stone. https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Galvanised-Steel-Banding-Strapping-Perforated-Metal-20mmx10m-Building-DIY-Garden/2147314538?iid=173297092125
  21. Have found another option using timber. In the pics below they have used decking boards and while it looks decent it's not really what I am looking. So I could replace the decking boards with a cladding type board that some of you have used. In terms of hardwood what would be the best option here. I like the look of iroko. Any other types of hardwood that would be suitable.
  22. I have just been informed that after the trial run of the hot tub that my shed has to be cut in half with a room all boarded out insulated the full works for our hot tub. And the garden needs done as well when I am at it. Think Elton John called it the circle of life but not sure he meant just keep working away cause she will always find new things for you to do.
  23. That's what I meant. I thought it was being changed to a national park. Form probably sitting on a desk up on the big hill waiting to be signed off.
  24. Self building is like Pringles one you start you can't stop. Once you have moved in then you rest a bit then start on all the stuff you left out as you hadn't the time/money to do.
  25. Is the Mourne area not classed as an aonb??
