  1. Are you sure you don't need pad stones???
  2. Have something to use as a packer in case it's not sitting level. Make sure whatever is lifting it is capable by twice the weight, as in if it's 1t use a sling/chain rated to 2t.
  3. What about this one. http://m.dell.com/h5/m/uk/SecondaryInventorySearch?c=uk&l=en&s=dfh&cs=ukdfh1&key=7%2bHd8pbwoWjKiHJxnRCtqLnqCwJJyiJi&puid=b76ebcc8
  4. More than acceptable. Your tape will stretch or sag a bit over 20m. Remember if you are 10mm out you are more than likely move both 5mm to equal them up. For that length anything up to 25mm would be fine. If you pull the tape to take out the sag you will more than likely with snap the tape if it's plastic or pull the nail or timber its nailed to out.
  5. I went MDF route and used 75mm for both the skirting and architrave. Of hand I think a 5.5m length was £6. Easy to cut and easy to fill and as you say no knots to worry about. Below is the only picture I have on my phone.
  6. In all my years on site plumbers where def the worst. Mine had the van reversed up to the patio doors so you could step straight out of the van into the house. Don't think they liked that brown mucky stuff on there trainers.
  7. Only have one door that you open up. Keep the rest locked no matter how many times the plumber asks. Foam on the handle so when it swings open and hits a wall it won't get damaged.
  8. Stephen Nolan's show this morning was all about how much of a cock up this has been. Biggest mess in the history of NI and each of them civil servants will get a new job and their platinum plated pension pot will still be waiting on them. And the chickens well be very warm for the next twenty years and each chicken farmer a millionaire.
  9. For homes your payments are based on what your as built sap says your heat demand will be. Think it is something like 4.6p per kW of heat up to a maximum of £2500. For business is based on how much you burn. Doesn't matter how much heat you actually need so we now have some of the warmest chicken houses in the world. So you can see how some people took advantage of this loop hole leaving all the homeowners who wanted to avail of the scheme who had already chosen to go down the rhi route up the creek minus the paddle. Don't forget the rhi scheme here covered all Renewables so heat pumps where included although the vast majority of the fraud was from business who went down the biomass route.
  10. It's more about how the whole scheme was that badly managed by the civil servants that we have ended up with a bill of hundreds of millions.
  11. Spotlight tonight all about the rhi scheme, should be a good watch.
  12. In NI is also more important who you know if you have difficulty getting planning.
  13. They will have experience of what will get passed and what won't. Could know the general makeup of the land if he has done a house close by. Will know of local tradesmen who have worked on some of his builds and are worth recommending. If the shat hits the fan then calling by site is very easy.
  14. Just check that you like the look of them as there is very little window beading as the glass is near the full width of the frame. I looked at the same type of product but just didn't like the fact it was near enough straight up from the frame into the glass with maybe a 5-6 mm bead.
  15. If you suspect Rock is at 2m deep then they will only get one cpt done if they do it correct. You are meant to hand dig to 1.2m so your first test will be at 2m. As the job will be priced per m and per cpt test ask if they don't get to 4m will you get money of??? Or ask how much it would be to dynamic probe the site. You still get a test results but will be much quicker at finding rock so should be cheaper. Get them to do the trial pits first so if as you suspect Rock is close then all they need to do is probe the rest of the site.
  16. How about a pipe reducer like this http://www.jdpipes.co.uk/shop/store/product/324-170-192mm-x-110-125mm-drainage-adaptor/ Reduce the pipe then a short strip of 110mm to get you where you need to get to then another reducer to get you back to using the 180mm insulated pipe. You will obviously need to wrap something round this section. It would also reduce the inlet flow. By how much is beyond my maths knowledge.
  17. I bought 2 as well and didn't notice till they where installed.
  18. Depends how much you bung the driver at Xmas!! I would tar it and tell them there is no way block paving will stand up long term esp when any delivery lorries go to use the turning circle.
  19. Bin lorries make a mess of block paving when they turn, they would be heavier than the fire engine. Would that be an issue to consider??
  20. Don't dig the bucket in and take out big lumps. Scrape it back in 100mm passes so you end up with a pile of loose material up against the blade. When there is enough there lift it and put it wherever is going. It's slower going but you don't have to get the hands dirty using a spade.
  21. Remember what you build doesn't have to be permanent, it only has to be right when the BC guy does his inspection. Once that box is ticked it can be removed. Most people here go down the few slabs route then take it away when it's been approved.
  22. It's not impossible to do what you want but some where along the line you will have to compromise on materials or labour or even both. You will need to plan everything to the last detail as every penny counts and will need to be good at haggling to get the best deal. like Dave says most of them houses where not finished as they just ran out of money so be prepared to live in a half finished house if needs must. Put the money into the things you can't change like the structure and when more money gets freed up then you can change tiles floors kitchen units etc. Have you done any calculations to find out what your heat demand will be.
  23. If I thought I would get peace I would eat one but I would more than likely end up with heartburn or the runs.
  24. Well go like hot cakes
  25. Where is your build??? How big is your build?? What shape is it?? What do you intend to build it from?? What's the ground conditions like?? How close are the services, gas electric sewer??? What building skills knowledge have you got??? These will have a big say on your final cost. I built a 220sqm bungalow in Ni and except plumbing electrics and plastering I done the rest myself and I have spent approx £106,000 and I still have the driveway to do.
