  1. When i bought my property, i had an opening from my front garden to my road. A B road 30mph. There was no gate. I made it wider to about 14ft, and did a proper crossover, of the ditch to the highway. I then put up a pair of 5 bar gates. Now i want to put a couple of nice big high gates up. First problem is, who owns the verge/ditch. me or the council. The council dont know, and neither do i. Now if i own the land between me and the road, my gates will be about 5 mt from the tarmac road. If the council own say the first 2 mt of the verge, my gates will be 3mt from the council verge. Looking at the permitted devl rules, if i want to do gates higher than 1 mt adjacent to the highway i will need permission. What i am trying to find out is what will be considered "adjacent" distance wise. I have read an appeal judgement, where the judge stood on the council land, reached out his arm, and could not touch the gate. he said the tall gates were fine, as they were not adjacent to. Unfortunately, on another appeal, where the gates were set back 4.6 mt the judge ruled that they were adjacent, and therefore needed permission. I would rather not have to go for permission, as the parish council object to everything, which in turn means that all applications have to go to committee. and takes bloody 6 months. Anybody got any wise words ?????? Please.
  2. I think you would need Building Regs approval, unless you are not connected to the mains. (septic tank)
  3. There were a lot of those. Jobs for life, until it wasn't.
  4. Not very exciting, but due to the nice weather I finally got my rubber roof stuck down, and the edge trim put around. Once I fit the plinth (no materials) that will be the outside finished. Wired up the inside ( no supply yet) but 18 double sockets. 11 internal lights. Power for oven and hob. Extractor power. TV ariel. Cat 6 and more that I have already forgotten. ?
  5. Zoot the Hoot. Walls, and ceiling look the biz fella. Well done.
  6. I think i might dig mine out of the lock up and fire it up, just incase. Atleast i could use it to power the gas boiler, cooker, and a couple of lights, and t.v.
  7. It looks amazing. What a great job, when faced with such adversity, ( shite instructions ) you are doing
  8. I think a multi tool will be hard work, slipping ect. I would prob go for a series of small drill holes, going larger to link them, and then file it out...... Ok. Ok. I would bin the lock. Who needs that level of privacy
  9. I would do exactly that. propping the poo pipe with bricks as ness to ensure fall.
  10. I feel you pain. I would have launched that thing down the bloody garden by now.
  11. I think they knocked that on the head a while ago.
  12. That looks sooooooo much better....... I'm going to say it.....BRILL
  13. Poc. To be fair it looks rubbish. But if it don't leak, then it don't leak. An air test would be best fella.
  14. I bet you won't get your concrete (Hope you do) Personally, if you do get the concrete, i would prob stop at that point. If you don't get your concrete then that's the stop point for now.
  15. Yep fella
  16. I know what you mean. The problem is.... Alarm. Nobody takes any notice. CCtv. Only really any use after the event, although might act as to put some people off. What about a large ex-military personal protection dog, or one from a company like K9. Please don't get a dog just because of the current situation. Be prepared for 10 years of ownership.
  17. Miss my daughters, and my 2 grandchildren.
  18. How the hell do they sell anything, with those delivery prices.
  19. Near the door end for me. Either that or diamond
  20. Finally got the sloping top bits of my cladding cut and fitted. Still got to stick the roof down, and do the skirt around the bottom, which I think I will do in black. Top half of my house will be clad the same, so pleased to have had the chance to practice on the posh shed
  21. Do people no longer get asked, "Does your front door lock comply with B.S. 7654321 " by insurance companies anymore ? P.S. Nice door geezer/.
  22. is it wood ? If it's bad, and you are worried, look up a local french polisher, £50 quid and they will make it vanish forever.
  23. That is normal on site. You get a couple of the firms lower pay grade staff (grunts) pulling all the wires, cutting in all the boxes etc. Then the higher pay grade comes to test and connect. The actual test is comprehensive, and takes a fair bit of time. It is a case of finding a spark that is happy to work with you, if you want to do some of the work, and save a few bob.
