If I was a wheelchair user an outward opening front door would be a pain. It is also bad for visitors as it opens onto them.

Just keep shopping round. This firm https://www.kiteleys.co.uk/conveyancing-costs looks less than a grand.

You can have some transition pieces or a shallow ramp. What is the floor finish? Are you having a mat well?

Using PIR boards to backfill garden path
Mr Punter replied to miike's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I have known the foam to break down into a powder. EPS is OK but PIR I am less sure. Put them free to collector? -
200+ metre utility connection

+1 and the DNO do not allow you to run electric through sewer pipe or non approved ducting. -
Rear extension and nasty neighbours!
Mr Punter replied to Millymu's topic in House Extensions & Conservatories
Your solicitors gave you good advice. Party Wall award will happen anyway, as will planning consent. I don't know how the freeholder consent works when you have a share in it, but they are often "not to be unreasonably withheld" or some such. Try to let it wash over you and do not deal with the neighbours directly or react to their provocations. Avoid words like "lies", "hate" and "nasty" as they are not helpful. -
dimensions on planning as opposed to reality?
Mr Punter replied to mjc55's topic in Planning Permission
You will probably not get pulled up on this. They often allow a maximum 100mm leeway to work in with brickwork. If it already built you don't have much option. If not, just do as @DevilDamo suggests. -
You could try another fabricator. They have over 30.

Saniflo alarm not adequate
Mr Punter replied to Pocster's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
I don't understand where the pressure switch would fit in. It is normally float type switches for these applications. -
Yes, start with a header one end and alternate with each course.

If we assume that you have 30m3 of soil to excavate and remove, a micro excavator will make the digging easy. A week with a decent operator plus a labourer may do it. If you have space at the front, make up a large 4 sided enclosure from 18mm OSB and 4 x 2 to store the spoil ready for a grab lorry, or just pile it up. Wheelbarrow through the house. I would budget max £8k but you may get it done for half that.

Roof work - is this as bad as I think it is?
Mr Punter replied to SFD's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
The thin slithers of slate at the verge are poor but I assume he was reusing existing materials? Dry verge slate system and some barge boards needed. -
If the render is solid I would leave it. Just scrape the flaking paint and repaint.
-
You could chase it into the brickwork.

Associated costs of self-build mortgage.
Mr Punter replied to flanagaj's topic in Self Build Mortgages
@flanagaj ask Protek for a quote for building control. Saves the need to get a second surveyor. -
Out of interest, what was the repointing cost and square area for the wall?

Aluminium Vs Alic-Clad timber windows cost difference
Mr Punter replied to flanagaj's topic in Windows & Glazing
I have found that there is no clear cost difference between aluminium, ali clad timber and composite (like Ideal Combi and Velfac). -
Can Door & Window fitting shims be removed ?
Mr Punter replied to Spinny's topic in Doors & Door Frames
It is normal just to cut them back flush with the frame. Removal should be difficult as they should be tight and often foamed. -
Wiring an outdoor switch....basic question
Mr Punter replied to saveasteading's topic in Power Circuits
I have used Hi Tuff cable for external wiring in the past. It is more flexible and easier to fit and terminate than SWA. -
Well hopefully this will serve as evidence to dissuade others who are considering RWH in their home. A water butt is probably the extent of what is useful.

Permeable paving. Marshalls Tegular or Brett Omega?

22m I seem to remember.
