  1. It’s only a garage BUT If you wanted a very neat finish You could stick a strip of PB on the bare edge butted up against the frame Staple skim beads on the edge and give it a couple of coats of joint cement or easifill Then sand
  2. The key is the glue Lots of it Gun nailing is absolutely fine As long as you use a ring nail and making sure there is a good exspansion gap around the perimeter Mine are I joists set at 600 To make them more solid I counter battened the underside with 100 x 25 at 400 centres 140 mtrs of flooring not a squeak to be heard I know my wife got quite upset at the amount of glue dribbling down the joists Doesn’t look great at the time But does the trick
  3. ??
  4. Do you think I would be pushing it buying the drive matting in The type that allows you just to have a thin layer of stones
  5. Thanks Just As we started the build Went to the docs Stiff kneck 51 never been ill cycles everywhere cancer in his spine lunge kidney liver He lived in our dining room while we have been doing the build Just finished two years of imuno theropy Started Chemo yesterday It does make you count your blessings
  6. Well funny you should say that My wife’s brother has multipul cancers and struggles He has his own remote for the side gates and comes in through the French doors Drives his little scooter within inches of the doors He will perhaps be spending what’s left of his life with us very soon I intend paving he area in front of the double doors He can simply drive onto the tiled floor I asked him if he can cope with the 35 mil drop He just laughed But Rules are Rules I would gues most disabled or elderly would choose option 3 I will keep everyone posted As there must be others on here that would like to get there vat back Then make up all There paths and drives etc
  7. No plan May fix handrail if required b BC To be honest I wouldn’t use that door for disabled acces We have bifolds and French doors around the back which have great access Park your car a couple of mtrs away BUT BC wanted front or side Unassisted access
  8. You sound like my wife I converted everything to Led at the last house £4.50 each I told yes but they last Zillions of hours Wrong Same exsperinance As you We have 120 downlights on our new home The electrician recommended CPC saying he hasn’t had any problems in five years of using the Buying by the box Tgey work out about 80 p each All ok after six months including 6 outside
  9. If that was the case I would challenge there decision I can’t see anywhere that says it needs to be concrete or any other material We will see I’m using local authority BC I found them much more diligent than private BC Most of the private BC companies are easily bullied by companies Pre plaster inspection Sbap a photo or check next door LA BC no chance We can’t even load plasterboards in till they are satisfied I i e said it before Best £700 I’ve spent on the build
  10. Yep I here what your saying I requested a visit from BC control a few months back The chap that covers our area was on holiday A young lady visited in is place She’s now the senior BC in our area Very keen and knowledgable She went through everything with us I told her planed a concrete flagged area as a temporary measure for the disabled access She asked WHY and suggested timber As long as it is 1-20 max fixed in place and of sound construction She went on to tell me the flat level platform at the top is the biggest problem Whith many builders sloping block paving upto the door with no level 1200 x1200 area at the top I realise that I haven’t build a £750000 home to put Somthing like that at the side door BC must realise this But I’ve followed the There rules i chuckled yesterday when when I visited the dentist They have an identical ramp in cast in concrete With a handrail Weve come in under budget We have 20 k ish due back in vat My wife plans to blow the lot on paving and landscaping her garden Who knows she may grow to love my ramp and decide to just scatter gravel round it
  11. Are Scottish regs so different I don’t know he might have more things to amuse himself when he’s looking round your build
  12. I’m not sure why Dave The remit I was give was a 1-20 slope With a level 1200 x1200 platform in front of the door All with a nonslip surface No mention of material to be used
  13. I’ve public and employers liability for my business That covers five employees But any self employed trades must have there own We use Sagar Pretty reasonable As selbuilders you need to stay away from employers liability If they are not being paid directly on PAYE by you They are not employed by you Itsperfectly reasonable of you to request a copy of a liability cert off anyone that is doing work for you When the old 714 tax exceptions where in use you had to provide a copy of a current PL cert Im not sure why they stoped
  14. I’ve spent the afternoon making a ramp to satify the disabled part of our sign off Ofcoutse it isn’t perminant but it should sufice Til we start the paving in the summer I’ve already had a couple of skateboard jibes
  15. Perhaps need to get several quotes You may find these vary wildly With most company’s being very busy for the foreseeable future Piices are high Just take Spons as a really rough guide Most suppliers and company’s don’t exspect to get any repeat business from you So will load your quote It May be worth sticking a deal with a concrete company for the whole job I was quote around £89 per cube But settled on £69 for the whole build 120 cube Every little bit helps
  16. I’ve recently done a floor and loos in a large hotel Just short of 500 sq mtrs I would imagine it will take more abuse than yours Limestone is still quite popular Bug as I’ve already stated Sealing it is crucial I buy Easy seal by the bucket load Chesp and as good or better than all the sealers that come in tiny bottles and a hefty price tag
  17. Marnix are really good boards We often use them straight onto caba decking If the floor is uneven bed tgem fown with a bagged adhesive to straighten the floor Then drive 32 mil screws in at 300 centres the following day you won’t have any issues if you tile over the fixings It’s unlikely that any moister will get through the waterproof adhesive If you are using limestone Don’t forget to seal them before grouting and sort through the packs prior to starting So as nor to have clusters of dark and light together
  18. Ps id your sticking Ditra to a timber floor There is no better adhesive than Ardex Flexable adhesive to screed (standard set )
  19. The correct answer should of been I don’t know I’m the guy who makes the tea If you are tanking the walls simply paint over the fixings holes I generally tile straight over them with a good quality bagged adhesive There are all sorts of new tiling products coming out Sometimes I haven’t the foggiest why I’m painting them on Just that they are on the spec Hope this helps
  20. A search on company’s house should give you a business address useally his accountants office
  21. I drylined mine No wet plaster or Parge If it’s done right it should be airtight Tester told me there was nothing escaping around the plastering He thought a score of three was pretty good with more than thirty sash windows
  22. We have Grohe right through The lady that we bought the plot off paid £1500 for bath and basin taps I can’t rember the brand But they have lasted less than ten years Replacement cartridges are sold in a set of four for £750 plus She said the salesman told her they were the best tap on the market ? We had Briston for the last twenty years No issues I can’t rember how much but money was tight back then
  23. We are exactly the same as you Dave We are opposite a sand quarry and surrounded by trees He told us that he would be happy to help us spend our money on piles But strip would be more than adequate With clay boarding around the edges
  24. ive two two Rubi wet cutters one quite old The other is zero dust In truth They don’t get used much Useally just for mitring limestone The thin cut and turbo grinder blades are so precise Most tilers prefer to use them The zero dust are handy if you have no nearby ventilated area to grind or wet cut
  25. Bet she can’t type and drive though ?
