Now that the planning is behind us My thoughts have turned to bricklayers A Brickie I’ve known since he was an apprentice started up on his own 12 months ago and had four Brickies working for him I’ve just spoken to him today and he tells me he’s now got 41 bricklayers working full time Miller homes and others are that desperate for Brickies They have been paying on a weekly basis There seams little sign of things slowing down anytime soon

There are metal conduits that have been covered with sand lime for decades As with a previous thread wet plaster especially lime doesn’t stick to plastic So metal (ally) capping will be fine
-
Plaster isn’t that great over plastic Metal will fix flatter Also conduit will need chopping into the block work for wet plaster BC don’t always allow

Not exactly a start it it’s a start Just the Cil and building regs to finish off over the next few weeks Then I’ll be able to dig the foundations out Hopefully we should have a water supply by then

You can get a Bill of quantities done via most of the larger Builders merchant chains For a few hundred pounds and back this up with invoices for Labour when drawing down Employing a QS on an individual house would be a real luxury Your builder or individual trade will know exactly what they need Im in the process of doing a bill of quantities for our build Simple spreadsheet That worked fine for our previous build

No Definitely not

Good timing Just caught me having a last look I’ve laid lots of Terrazzo over the years and quite a bit on steps Terrazzo slabs like limestone are great for mitering Be size they are soft As you correctly point out They will chip laid on steps Yes Crazy idea

I think as a self builder You need to realize that Architects are not builders They don’t have a team of trades waiting in the wings They are there to do a design The technical side is usually done by others Architects earn there corn when you hit planning difficulties
