  1. Mine. She knew better than to shout back at the time.
  2. Next time I’ll just buy a bloody staircase. Either way it’s joinery not carpentry ? Considering the shouting while fitting it I don’t think they’ll amount to much.
  3. Putting it together was the most stressful part. Glue everywhere, tools getting covered, constant adjustment, I wouldn’t reccomend it to anyone.
  4. You would have thought having mocked it all up without the risers it would have all fitted together first time hey. Oh no! Every winder had to be adjusted ( including adding bits)... which I’m sure will come back to bite me in the arse. BUT they are in!!! I still need to trim the wedges, make the landing proper, and fit the bottom easy straight flight but Iv had enough stress this weekend. So we’re going to the pub, ( I might look at the landing tomorrow..... I might go shopping, I’ll see how I feel in the morning)
  5. Dont forget to run the cables to the island. ??
  6. Are you sure it’s not a split latch? E.g the handle outside is only to lift and lock the door but you have to turn the key to open the door? If so throw the stupid split spindle in the bin and replace it with a normal solid spindle. You can can find out by taking the inside handle off, if the spindle is in 2 halves with a bunch of springs and other rubbish on it that’s your problem. Most doors come with them nowadays because we’re all too stupid to remember to lock the door when we’re going out.
  7. Luckily I bought the doors when Howdens were having a clear out for £5 each. But that’s little consolation ??
  8. I started this when I was 27 and it had nothing to do with wanting to build my own house. I planned to do this in my 40s hopefully when I could afford it. BUT I just couldn’t get a mortgage to buy a house in this area. Plan was to buy, renovate sell and so on. Problem was being able to buy the first one. So I am now in a position where I have to build 7 days a week, can’t afford to get anyone in to speed it up. My wife lives with my parents and has done for over 5 years now. I’m so bloody arrogant that I’m adamant that I’ll build my own stairs which is taking months longer than it should do which....... why did you all drag me into this. I’ll piss doing this for under 1k/m2 but I’m not happy about it yet. Grrrr why would anybody build their own house,
  9. As Russel said. If you need to go deeper than your reach dig a shallow hole next to it. Your digger should be fine lowering it in the hole just make sure your blade is on the hole side. Also make ale sure you fill it with water before you surround it with the pea gravel concrete mix. If you don’t and it decides to lift you will end up with a very expensive mess.
  10. No you can’t as that’s criminal damage. You could go to the faa but that’s about it. Fwiw if you shot down my drone I would come back with a much bigger gun ?
  11. My only experience is that buying a cheap will only dossapoint you, they will get you the angle but they won’t get you the shot you want. I have been really impressed with my DJI phantom 4 and similarly impressed with my fathers mavic pro but unless you spend 4 figures I fear you will be dissapointed and then end up spending the money anyway.
  12. The stair components are all done but the nosing and annoyingly that’s the bit I need to start with. ( I have already made it once but I really should have measured both ends of the piece instead of making assumptions. Either way I need to make it again and the person whose thicknesses it is decided to change the irons on it this week otherwise we could have been done this weekend (if I wasn’t at a wedding in Dublin until Thursday ?)) but yes I do have access to the machines that could do this work quite easily BUT they are not mine so I would feel a little rude offering out their services. Also iirc we arnt that close really so transporting the timber would negate any savings made.
  13. It’s one of those tools you will never use for Long or very often but when you need one they are invaluable.
  14. Also when stacking the boards together to make the top remember to alternate the end grains to minimise the cupping. ??
  15. It would be a hateful job but you could step up a jig for a router to flatten the boards. Then finish them with a belt sander.
  16. https://www.wholesaleledlights.co.uk/1m-recessed-flat-aluminium-profile-extrusion.html?infinity=ict2~net~gaw~ar~138761483653~kw~~mt~~cmp~PLA - LED Strip Lights&gclid=Cj0KCQjw5NnbBRDaARIsAJP-YR8vEyN42efCeoDDcBw4Ar9cM1WsMZ2zRtFGNVQZ5i8QXQlxD5v1MJ4aAtVkEALw_wcB I was looking at things like this until you all went and shared those fancy profiles. ?
  17. I’m glad someone asked before I had to. ?
  18. Probably best to turn it back that 1/8 otherwise things start to get sticky, didn’t seem like that’s the problem so best let Nick tear your system apart.
  19. See if the stop cock is on full bore already then report back.
  20. 320 for me as well according to that link.
  21. Afaik we have pretty hard water. I’ll see if I can find a way to test it so you can compare how hard it is.
  22. The main issue is the entire building sector. Not many people become builders because they really want to work hard their entire life. Most do it because they couldn’t be bothered to educate themselves well enough to get a better job and to become a builder all you really need to do is stick a number on the side of your car and steal a hammer off someone. Its not so much the case will small firms or one man bands but in bigger firms anyone that cares even the smallest amount is so far ahead of the norm they soon get promoted to an office job and the firms workmanship goes back to square one. Unfortunately it’s just the way it is.
  23. I think there is a little bit too much tar being slung around here. There are people that don’t care in every trade but that doesn’t make the system they are using and worse than the other. It all really comes down to the PM to spot and remedy any poor workmanship before the next trade goes on top of it.
  24. Now all you need is a “trowel mate” and you’ll really look the part. ?
  25. I could stand behind that one. You wouldn’t like it if I hit scaffold with a hammer for hours at a time and personally I can’t hear the difference.
