The only kick in the nuts is Lucidchart only allows 60 items per drawing with the free version. FECK!

An industry standard which makes a lot of sense, I now see. As Ed says, its a fine line where common courtesy strays into giving up your own free / family time for zero reward, and usually through no fault or reason of your own, and where you draw a line and say "this is now work". Makes me shudder when I think how much of my time has been 'lost' to this in the past

Yup. A guy I recently worked alongside said he had adopted a new business model, to deal with such situations. He said he simply picked up the phone and answered the client, out of his 'paid hours' and immediately informed them that answering the phone and discussing the job with them would be chargeable at £X per hour with no part hour billing. Some chose to accept it, and some choked on their asparagus tips. Either way, he said it made his phone either quiet or very profitable. Makes perfect business sense when you look at it, from either perspective. If a client chooses to ring out of hours then they pay the fee. Simples.

Land mines is an alternative, but slightly more controversial.

+1 and cantilevered beams mean no need to touch ground or otherwise support the first floor [ over the alleyway ]. Cheap as chips solution.

If you have a boss, it should be his phone their ringing not yours ? One thing I never gave out when employed was my phone number. Never, to ANYONE, for ANY reason. ????

WhatsApp is best as they know that you know that they have received the message, so they would then be purposefully avoiding / ignoring you if they didn't come straight back to you. imessage on Apple does the same.

Should I go SS when replacing my Copper Cylinder
Nickfromwales replied to MikeSharp01's topic in General Plumbing
Where's it leaking from ? Pic ? -
+1. Just change the offending light to led and the accidental consumption will be negligible. Or, if it's a matter of principle you can fit the type which work on proximity and go from dim level ( 15% ) or 0% to 100% upon detection. Example only

@MikeSharp01 If your DHW heats on gravity then you need to keep the 28mm connections. Telford will do 28mm unions, as most are made bespoke anyhoo. Can you patch it up for a bit? How much is the SF cylinder ? -
Hi and welcome. Have you had the property long ? Looks like natural sag, so I don't think it's about to cave in any time soon . Ian's gentle encouragement is so we can get some background and additional info. .

Width and depth seem to go unnoticed, it's ridge height to watch out for. The main thing to catch folk 'out' is a neighbour who's taken a photo of the view over the ridge of an existing dwelling raized to make way for a new one. If it's a new build on a plot with no twitching curtains then I'd push my luck a bit tbh. Going 300mm wider is an easy 'mistake' to make as it's the typical wall thickness. Just look stupid and say "I knew they shouldn't have given me the bloody tape measure".

If you don't kill the entire root network by letting the plant transport the poison throughout you'll spend forever chasing new growth. You don't leave a dead tree behind, it gets removed when the job is done ☠️?

I'd have thought the neighbour will shit a brick when they know what's growing so say nowt. Just ask permission to 'prune' the 'bushes' . Probably one down from Japanese Knotweed and also a mortgage killer if anyone looks at buying yours or next door. Kill this quickly and quietly. ?

LED Lights for Shower Pocket?
Nickfromwales replied to MAB's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
You having lots of PV ? You'd need a whopper of a unit if you went Sunamp TBH, so it would be too expensive imo. Your house is the opposite of passive . ( Like mine is too ). Big sunamp = big pv array + E7 / E10 to fortify when the suns not out. -
New House Design, what do you think?
Nickfromwales replied to magnethead's topic in New House & Self Build Design
Have a spiral staircase if you like them, I like them. The original stairs will also look great in the space, as it'll be open an light anyway. The sloped ceiling in the cinema room will be a quirk that works for the space imo, as I've never stood up to watch a film. Losing that stray kitchen unit is a good shout, but I'd keep the utility as that's a good space for the un-pretty kitchen stuff. Saves on expensive looking integrated alliances where they're not needed, plus a big house wants a big washer and a big drier which you won't get if integrated. 6 of us in mine so big washer & drier is a no brainer. Can you rotate the house in the plot ? -
