What boiler to go with Solar thermal and wood burner
newhome replied to geoffdg's topic in Solar Thermal (ST)
Can’t even get anyone to fix mine at all up here so it’s a useless white elephant on the roof. Needs roof access and they run a mile once that’s understood. Original installer is still in business but says ‘he doesn’t fit those systems now’ so won’t service it. It wasn’t RHI but under the old approved installer scheme and he took the whole grant to fit 2 panels on the roof and add the controller. Almost 2.5k. Not bad money considering the effort involved. Arse.- 97 replies

I have solar thermal (not working at the mo but that’s a different story). It provides lots (too much) hot water in summer when you need less, and not enough in winter when you need more. PV clearly generates less in the winter too but you can use the PV for much more than just heating water so it’s much more useful. If I could wind the clock back I would go for PV over solar thermal.- 97 replies

Comfort cooling MVHR
newhome replied to AliG's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
We have that style of windows at work (not necessarily Internorm, just the style). Stupid electric blinds are always breaking. Somehow they fall off and then collapse in a heap at the bottom. I have integral blinds in my 2G windows. They haven’t broken yet but some are now a bit stiff 9 years on (they are manual rather than electric). -
I can’t believe a guy wouldn’t read the instructions! ?

Found this via Google. Might be worth giving them a call to get a price comparison https://www.elandcables.com/cables/waveform-wavecon-cables

The author indeed got the hump and sued 2 newspapers, the Sunday Correspondent and The Guardian, for libel (and won) for tarnishing his creation.

Developers use TF more than anything else up here. It's just what folk are used to I guess.

What's the architect calculated as the U Value of the walls? Is it going to meet minimum building standards? As @ProDave says 100mm looks a bit low these days.
-
Christ I'm not that old!!! I must have been second generation matey .

What the hell was that? I don't remember it!!

I don't think the OP knows about the insulation - his architect appears to have done the spec. The architect maybe told the OP they wouldn't need heating either.

Me too! Remember the song on the TV ad? Not very PC these days mind with kids in the bath!

I'd like that - would use a shit load of water though, and I probably wouldn't get enough pressure here for it to be fantastic. When my ensuite shower was working I had a rainfall shower and various body jets. If the rainfall and the jets were on it wasn't powerful enough to be really good so I used to choose either or.

Wow that looks fab!

The Method products are good but maybe a bit more expensive than Ecover https://methodproducts.co.uk/products/toilet-cleaner/

It would probably go up a bank ok if it was fixed securely. We had a small slope on the garden that we put AstroTurf on and grew plants through it. Gravel would have washed down onto the flat AstroTurf. It worked ok. This was it after about 15 years
