OK Peter, so something like this then https://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-bath-trap-white-40mm/84362 into a short piece of 40mm pushfit pipe and then connected to https://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-flexicon4-flexible-connector-white-40-x-157-242mm/86386 This then onto the 40mm pipe work under the floor. Shame I can't get a one piece bit. CC

Evening all, Just getting around to fitting our free standing bath and just battling with the waste. The next job is to connect it up to the waste pipe under the floor - but I'm not sure of the coupling. The waste pipe that came with the bath looks like this The end that needs to go into the waste has an external diameter of 39mm - in fact it seems to be tapered slightly from just below 39mm up to just over 39mm - does this get glued into a solvent welded pipe? or do I need to find a connector? Does anyone know? Cheers

nothing more than about 600mm, just straight cuts really - not brave enough to go for diagonal designs! Its just for the current job BUT I said that with the current one 3 jobs back. I tend to buy tools and then keep them.... The following seems to have good reviews https://www.screwfix.com/p/big-clinker-2-heavy-duty-tile-cutter-630mm/29758 Leaning towards this at the minute....

Hi, great plot & I like the house. The plans are easy to look at. We are aiming to move over the border into Wales with our next one. Good luck with it.

I know there are a few experts on here..... I do not tile for a living but do all my own tiling. I am in the middle of a bathroom and two unsuites - all was going well until the 'value' tile cutter I am using decided to give up cutting in a straight line (bent bars courtesy of a mate) so I'm on the hunt for a replacement one. want better than bottom end - willing to pay up to £100 - may go higher if warranted but not more than ~ £120. Been looking at one of these two: https://www.screwfix.com/p/rubi-star-50n-plus-tile-cutter/53843 https://www.screwfix.com/p/rubi-star-max-51-manual-tile-cutter-510mm/2652k I think the second one is the latest version of the first one. Not many reviews of it. Any thoughts out there amongst our experts? Cheers

I carefully trimmed with stanley knife and removed excess Plus as per suggestion above, 3mm board should do it OK. -

@ProDave - I guess its not a Belle one? They seem to command a premium. The 3 year warranty is tempting on that Aldi one... -

I've just been looking at the plate compactor https://www.aldi.co.uk/vibrating-plate-compactor/p/012133263416400?utm_source=Aldi&utm_medium=Email&utm_content=Header&utm_campaign=OSDEmail11032019&sap-outbound-id=1988FF87141D78FCE51269EF581FE2A826EBCADB I've a fair bit of patio's and paths to do plus potentially a drive so I think I could justify the price - hire will get expensive because I only get evenings and the odd weekend to get it done. Does anyone know anything about it? Specs look OK compared to a Belle PCLX 400 Compactor Plate. OR do I just buy a Belle on ebay - might be easier to sell post finishing the house..... Any thoughts welcome. Thanks -

When its perfect - will you want it to stay that way or will you actually use it?☺️

I think you are harsh on yourself - that tiling looks good to me.

Agree, too many kids just take the easy option. A healthy chunk of reducing standards help mask the reality curretly - not enough student with drop in birth rates 18 years ago. Ive never regretted my degree - its been essential in my career but would I want 50k of debt - not really. Above all else I feel that a lot of the younger generation expects things to come to them with not much effort, the good ones I know are fantastic - how do employers cope with the others?

Spent the last week floor tiling - still a bit left to do (need to get hold of more adhesive). When I get home I'm whacked - I'm sure you would get tiling fit eventually but respect for those who do it for a living. Grouting today had the sweat dripping off me. Perhaps we don't appreciate the trade boys and girls enough sometimes.

Worm activity will mix the layers over time. The top will drain onto the exiting soil - where the roots are anyway. Turf is instant and will be tough enough for most uses - seeded does take time to stitch and tiller up so its a bit slower to provide a tough cover.
-
Grass grows perfectly well on clay soils. 2" of soil on top will have minimal effect since grass roots will go down 50cm plus. I'd seed it personally.
-
Dewalt here - no particular reason why I started with it. Its been bomb proof for me, can't fault it at all. Suspect there's very little in it between brands.
-
I also hate applying silicone. I've tried all the tools but keep going back to my finger. When you get good at it - you can pop around ours and do all mine..... I will supply the necessary beer.
-
this is what I've used. No complaints about it at all. Takes screws no prob.
-
every skimmer I know seems to have different preferences - the chap doing our house said stick 12.5mm normal PB (SE) everywhere & he uses board finish on the lot. Who knows whats right!
-
Ive lagged the lot. Not that expensive or time consuming so why not.
-
I'm pretty sure its as dry as it can be - the tiler is just worried about expansion .... I will take them all up to a room temp of ~ 23/24 - hopefully that will be enough. The drive from Kent to the Midlands will reduce his productiveness a bit I suspect.....
