  1. fantastic idea - what's the small metal insert called?
  2. our recirculation system brings hot water to within 300mm of the taps.
  3. single channel programmer - most have a 1hr boost button. Not quite what you're after but just set it to run during busy water use periods.
  4. Mapei shower tanking kits have got £10 off in Toolstation - £40 rather than £50.
  5. ours is wired into a single channel programmer.
  6. I use pub co2 bottles - friendly landlord is all you need. Does the job if not quite perfect.
  7. to get a house on a small holding then you would need to prove an agricultural need - this is not easy with a small holding. You need to prove there's enough work for someone, it is financially viable & that you must live on site (easier with livestock than crops). a challenge.
  8. probably uplift clause included so may not be as cheap as you think. Depending on quality, agric land goes for between 6k & 15k per acre.
  9. ask in Wunda give you that £50 back when you place an order.

    Paving

spot on - have been toying doing ours (Q a big area) but not done pavers before - any tricks worth knowing?
  11. I spent as much on rads & pipe work as I did on all the UFH downstairs. My experience is that there's nothing in it. I'd do what feels right. Our next house will have UFH upstairs.
  12. yes he should. next time I am going to assume everyone is less than accurate until they prove otherwise.
  13. I wish the cheeky monkey that erected our frame has achieved this.
  14. whats below the joist - it looks like a floor?
  15. building control will be all over that like a rash........???? maybe
  16. I just ordered the bits from Wunda (they did the design) - pretty straightforward. I'd never done one before but would do another no prob. give it a bash.
  17. Cheers both. 15kw is the rating (my addition) when all the induction hobs are on boost + oven on. With all the induction hobs on max + oven going = 12kw.
  18. each room upstairs is on a separate stat with us as well. No point heating rooms we don't use very often.
  19. Electrical challenge number 2 - what size of cable for the range cooker I'm told we want? TLC calc https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Technical/Charts/VoltageDrop.html used and for the following criteria this is what it suggests: SWA (2 core) PVC, 14m and load of 15kw (looked up the installation instructions) suggests 10mm - does this sound right? The cable will run in the ceiling void with 50mm of insulation above it ( about 150mm above it). Will check with the sparky who signs my work off but always worth an ask here... This should be the last challenge wiring wise! Desperate to get some outside work done - I need a change from inside.
  20. If I did my heating system again I'd put ufh upstairs as well as down stairs. We've put in rads upstairs - no complaints but they weren't any cheaper and the rooms would be more flexibly without rads on walls.
  21. right, finally got the kitchen down on a piece of graph paper. Apologise to all the IT pro's for the old fashioned paper but it works for me. Its been a compromise - there always seemed to be joists in the way. So to remind anyone who reads this - no wall units so no under unit lights - so the task lights are not just for looks. I worry about too much light but with 3 separate circuits we can always mix and match + put some dimmers on one of the switches. Kitchen layout 1.pdf Placement of task lights = height of room (2.5m) - height of floor units (0.9m) / 2 General lights = height of room (2.5m) / 2 I've tried to stick to these along with compromise. Hope this helps others!
  22. no these were brand new. The worst ones I sent back + some that looked like bananas.
  23. If dimensions are tight then just be aware that celotex varies - I've used 140mm in our frame BUT in some areas the celotex sticks out from the frame - I've measured them and they are more than 140mm. Next time I will order it a wee bit thinner to save on grief. It may not affect you but worth noting just in case.
  24. £270/day - how long is a day? (mine are 3hrs /day x 4 days a week plus 10hrs on Sat & Sunday. Got a full time job as well)
  25. can't beat those cheap ones. take a fair beating. <£2 a pair is the target.
