  1. Yes. Altitude plays a part, would be nice to see the criteria that was used to make that chart.
  2. I have heard the same argument about old cars, that must be why I am surrounded by Morris Minors, Austin Minis, Ford Populars... It is amazing how the ghost of Barrett Homes is still with us. The World In Action expose was in 1983.
  3. Only if they learnt from all the last schemes we have had. I think if councils could nominate areas of land that could be used for solar or wind farms and DNOs gave access to connection possibilities, there would be less mucking about at the beginning. But what we will end up with is the usual over complicated, confusing and contrary system that seems set up to stop things.
  4. Or pipe dreams. I see the LDs what to spend £6bn on insulation and low carbon heating. Wish I could sort my house out for £200 (assuming spread evenly over 30 million homes). I think UKIP have the most realistic expectations of what is going to happen in the next parliamentary term. Tim Hartford did a bit on the Beeb. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000bx15 and https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000c4pc
  5. Good stuff, nothing wrong with that at all. Can see it being set to music one day.
  6. Ah, the real Queen's Poet. Did he every write anything about building a home disaster.
  7. Don't they swap the power between 'rings' when more than two are on. And isn't it 10A for a continuous load on a socket?
  8. When people talk about me, do they say 'SteamyTea the boat builder', no. Do they say 'SteamyTea the chef', no. But one sheep.
  9. Sounds like you are cooking a parrot, a live parrot.
  10. So did Darth Vader.
  11. That why it sounded like another 4 letter word beginning in C. You need a proper West Country accent, just like they have in Scunthorpe.
  12. Welcome. I ache all over and not building. So probably nothing to do with it. I have 5 pairs of glasses, it is annoying when I sit down to read and then realise my nose is holding up my driving glasses.
  13. Seems it may be work thinking about the EV wiring if getting a new CU. @ProDave is it possible to double up in bus bar on all CUs, or only on some. If latter, which ones, and should it be done at the begining, rather than a retro fit?
  14. Can all these CUs take a breaker that is large enough for an EV charging point, or will that still require a separate unit.
  15. Mean Trump or Johnson.
  16. How about if you do most of the work yourself, like @Ed Daviesis doing.
  17. I hate portmanteau words.
  18. Just had a thought. Have you considered cellulose insulation (Warmcell). When I went to see @Jeremy Harris's build before he moved in, I was surprised that it did not have that 'empty building' sound. I think there is also a sound deadening product that is similar.
  19. They can always fit radiators, hard to fit UFH after the build.
  20. There may be a issue with the different temperatures used between radiators and UFH, though I think this can be over come with 'mystical' plumbing devices. I think @ProDave have the right answer.
  21. Would it not take several coats as OSB is not exactly flat and easy to paint.
  22. Really, that surprises me. Especially if you factor in the capital costs and the interest that the money could have earn't you. With that much cash in your bank, you could have got @pocster and @Nickfromwales to have shared a ride down to sort it out one weekend.
  23. Kenneth knew about switching.
  24. Yes, very unlikely, but who knows what happens in the mind of electrical engineers.
  25. I was once asked to tile a floor. I had painted the place and the customer was well impressed with my work (I was out of work at the time and would do anything for cash). Told him the floor was dreadful, but he insisted that I could do it. He threw me off site and refused to pay me for all the work I had done. £1500, bastard. I hate tiling.
