  1. I think F&B is one of the only paints allowed for use on listed/ heritage work. Which is why they can charge what they like. But between you and me. Our old decorator used to keep one can just for this purpose. He just kept filling it up with cheaper, easier to use alternatives.

  2. If you put sticky flashband on your house I will never talk to you again.

  3. Okay, tiling done. Only two bathrooms to go, but that's us ready for when we move in (planning March). Hex tiles I cut with a diamond grinder. I taped the line I wanted, scored lightly with the grinder right along before then grinding slowly each hex. I used mosaic mats which helped keep them flat nicely. I've got some Ct1 to put round the shower tray and paint two walls, then do a final fit/tighten on everything. This has been quite simply the toughest job of the whole build by far. Looks easy but got to think in 4 dimensions almost, cutting,mixing,laying,grouting ,sealing... We're pretty pleased with it tho.

  4. Ahem, it's gone now... Nothing gets past the Build hub wolf pack! I'd cut the tile a bit short!

  6. This is exactly what we are looking for ! i guess the up stand is perhaps more important than at first it appears . TBH I would prefer the up stand supplied then it’s one less thing to make !!

  7. Local but I did get some quotes on line too. that was via www.thegaragedoorcentre.co.uk they are based in Northants but they sent the enquiry out to local suppliers near me and I had two out to quote. On supply only I just got online prices no visit to quote. I just checked and my door is 3790 wide x 2125high It was £2495 ex vat (zero rated so I dont have to reclaim) supply and fit with two remotes and in Ral colour and comes with a guarantee from local installer as well as Hormann.

  8. Leyland trade have the F&B colour codes and will match EXACTLY. The whole of our last house was in knock-off F&B and looked great. They do an ultra-matt finish as well, which although not quite as chalky as true F&B, has no shine to it whatsoever.

  9. Try the garage door company in Wellingborough. Not that local but they travel. Excellent pricing and good service. You can fit it yourself, but if its a new build house, that will mean having to recover the VAT and frankly their installation charges are reasonable. Most importantly, unless you or someone you know has done this yourself (not that difficult), its just simpler to get someone to do it. They survey the site and remain responsible for any issues.

  10. Agreed, looks uber smart. This is the last one ( that took my arm ? ). Matt black flush plate, trap and tap to go with pic frames, mirror etc. Not bad considering I tiled that with one arm ?. 750x750mm too. I think we'll see a lot more of the black this year. ?

  11. With single sided icf like this I think you'd be in a world of pain trying to modify it to get board marked finish.....you're buying the jointing web structure but would have to deconstruct it totally to get the boards in, and the boards won't substitute the ply, you'll need to fix the boards to the ply. Compared to the pre formed 'decorative' boards people have linked to I don't see you saving money.....just being subject to a more risky hit and miss result. I would say if you skip icf and end up doing shuttered concrete, don't be deterred from board finish on its expensive reputation. Materials are cheap, just rough sawn timber (which will mostly be re-useable), nails and wax. It's labour intensive but totally unskilled. Having witnessed every moment of the process on mine i'd say he absolutely wants a specialist reinforced concrete contractor...there's plenty of them.....i'd certainly recommend mine if he's in range (dorset or bordering). My board finish; My fair faced ply finish;

  12. Have you got some links to the Chinese stuff, don't really want to buy the wrong things by mistake. 3 weeks wait is nothing, been thinking about this for a decade or more. My old CurrentCost has a battery life of years, how do they manage that from a couple of DDs. I could open one up and see what is inside, or get @JSHarristo have a look and see if he can copy it cheaply.

  13. I'm having a very bad day. It seems that the flashing system for the GSE in-roof panel mounts can't cope with Dartmoor winds :(. At least two rows of slates ripped off in the process. Oh feck!
