Gone West Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 The weather's been dry and warm for a while now so I thought I'd take advantage and finally finish the front garden. The paving went well and it didn't take long laying the turf and it's easier cutting grass than weeding! We added some tubs with lavender to finish off. I'll have to finish the bathroom now, no more excuses. 6
MikeSharp01 Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 Very smart you two - looks great.... any date for moving in pencilled in?
Mr Punter Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 10 out of 10 for the lawn prep and timber cladding detailing around windows. Very crisp.

Onoff Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 Is it me or is everything on the build so good it looks like its a CAD rendering? (Compliment btw!) That paving looks almost like glass, what is it?
ToughButterCup Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 Hard work rewarded. I'm sooooooo jealous. Well done Ian
Gone West Posted October 15, 2017 Author Posted October 15, 2017 Wow, thanks for all the generous comments.

readiescards Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 If you are bored now its done, feel free to pop over to Lincolnshire... :-)

It's also thickness calibrated +/- 2mm so easier to lay. It was the last two pallets left in a sale so we only had 104 slabs to work with but we did the front path, side verandah and rear patio without breaking any. Very fortunate. 1

Bitpipe Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Amazing - we're just doing landscaping now (over a year after moving in) and its amazing the difference it makes. Can I ask where you got the Gridforce in the picture with the turf arriving?
Gone West Posted October 15, 2017 Author Posted October 15, 2017 22 minutes ago, Bitpipe said: Can I ask where you got the Gridforce in the picture with the turf arriving? We bought 56m2 of it at the beginning of the build in 2010 from BS Specialist Products, Notts. We had it at the front of the new build for lorries and cranes at the beginning of the build and we've taken it up and used it many times. It will be finally used for the car turning circle which the planners told us to have.

Will it be in sympathy with the house, design wise? The bungalow is made of 4"x2" with sarking on the roof and timber floor. I'll take the bungalow down and use any decent timber for the shed. I'm hoping to get a concrete crusher in for the chimney breast and block extension at the back and use that as hardcore for the drive. Haven't thought about a design yet
Gone West Posted October 15, 2017 Author Posted October 15, 2017 We've now got moles under the new turf. This area is riddled with the little buggers. I've killed two this year and I've set the traps again. Hopefully I'll be lucky and catch them before the grass dies. I caught eight one year at my last house.

Plenty of mole repeller circuits out there? Something like this buried in a tin can maybe: http://www.electroschematics.com/2570/ultrasonic-pest-repeller-circuit/ 1

Caught about 10 in the end. Tried gas as well, but the mole traps did the job more effectively. Apparently they are mostly solitary, but they certainly were for from it in our case.
