Of course, we never moved out - even though adding 55sq m to a 75sq m house is a pretty disruptive project.

I should have said, we got our completion certificate the other week after 18 months. We are far from finished of course but we've convinced the BI that its not a complete liability although I'm sure it still is. Still quite a way to go to finish bits off although it is all functioning as it should. Just the epic loose end and snagging list to contend with. 55 sq m and so far we're 90 grand into it. Ball park as I gave up counting long ago.

@TheMitchells do you use GBF? This question sounds right up their street.

Dual Hobs in Worktop, design vs structural engineering
daiking replied to TerryE's topic in Kitchen Units & Worktops
I think that about 5' 6" is the sort of height you need to be so me and the wife are ok. One of those things that happens. We could probably get it altered but it's not worth the hassle. -

Splash back? We've a big bit of 20mm Quartz to match the upstand. Unfortunately it's too big and the extractor is too high because the controls are on the top of the extractor not the bottom. But it looks good which is something I suppose. -

Never been a problem here. The quartz has a bevel on all the edges. Although technically I think we have a semi-handle less design as The cutout is a feature in the cabinet not the door/drawer front. Trapping your fingers in the carousel door every time, now that's another story... -
Cleaning Runoff from Anti-Climb Paint

An idea may be to look toward the auto sector even more so now that vinyl coverings have made a come back. Products for removing tar spots like autosmart Tardis and a million and one natural and synthetic barrier products come to mind but unsure of compatibility. -

@MrsRA don't listen to the boring old farts. Colour = good. -
Please don't take this as a criticism, merely a view formed from reading your posts on here. Whether it is right or (quite probably) wrong, it is based upon what I have read by you. The impression I have is that you do not work in a full time capacity/maximising your income. Therefore you have it within your means to fix this problem of slow progress in the house and put yourself in a position where you are able to decisions that allow you to get on with your life. Now thats out of the way, I'm not sure why you are wedded to the idea that a house should be worth what it cost to build. Surely the biggest proof that this isn't the case is that there isn't a massive building program going on up there. If there was profit available, there would be building and more. also, don't be so down about it. You seem to own 1 and a 1/2 houses outright and yet that makes you angry. Imagine how that sounds to someone without a home? I hope you get over this problem in time (as should we all with the baggage we carry around).

Can't you find the old Piccadilly circus lights on Ebay?

As Jeremy notes, GD has become more and more of an architect's circle jerk over the years. Proven by that annoying house of the year prog. RIBA'd for their extra pleasure, not yours. On the Gaggs, I know a chap with Gagg appliances, he runs a high end bespoke kitchen company. It's his customers paying for them.

Tell me about it! I have to change gear with one hand and reach through the steering wheel and indicate with the other... Both my mid-nouhgties Ricers though have the indicator stalk on the left. Annoyingly they alternate in wipers operating from the stalk up or down

How are 'domino' arrangements normally done? Like this or do the individual units sit within some sort of chassis that fits in a single worktop hole? We did look at dominoes so we could keep a gas option but they cost even more than the Neff 5 hob flexi-induction we've got. -
Optical or ionisation, and for which location?
daiking replied to Nickfromwales's topic in Electrics - Other
I just followed the Aico advice so optical in the "common areas" and as I'm cheap I went for the 140 series not the 160 or the multi sensor.- 4 replies

In an effort to get BR sign off, alarms, hallway and landing are now installed. Aico ei146. Everything seems to work correctly for the first time. Just need some blue insulation tape to identify the grey 3&E wire as the neutral. Effectively a like for like replacement of existing alarms which were defunct anyway. Used the original idiot's T&E cable to first alarm so I've not touch anything near the CU and a new 3&E cable between alarms for the interconnect. I routed it to allow for the placement of other alarms and a control switch if desired/required at some point.

If it's anything like my brother in law, the weight of FLT spares and tools in the back of a FWD Transit made it impossible to drive if so much as a single snowflake fell. Well not impossible but a new clutch is needed... -
The majority of users don't think like that. One hot thing is the same as any other hot thing, it's hot. It's like I've found that one of the unsung advantages of induction hobs compared to gas/electric/halogen is that my wife cannot brand it with Tesco's logo from a melted plastic bag.
-
It's not forgetfulness, it's laziness and a cavalier attitude to risk. but apparently you can't beat your wife so there's not much else I can do.
-
Even if you have the roast in your hands you can put it back in the oven and get a trivet out. my wife has started putting hot stuff directly on the Quartz. I keep telling her not to but she doesn't listen.
