  1. That won't happen because all the cables are neatly clipped and out of the way. Oh wait... And now it goes to rat shit anyway. Came home to find a load of plasterboard ready for plastering tomorrow which is not what I expected. Also they didn't need to remove any ceiling from below so there's less fixing up to do. So i've pointed this out and got a discount but I've still got that knot in my stomach of here we go again. floor is solid now and they've reboarded about 2/3 of the room. Don't think the door is any squarer though so we'll have to live with it. Would only need fixing if we come to sell as a surveyor would spot it. Best foot forward and all that.
  2. Should have gone to specsavers, its @Barney12 gap, not mine. Where I win is that I can now ignore sure fripperies as window gaps because I know I'd be better off burning it down than trying to fix.
  3. I don't understand. That happens a lot.
  4. I've got some wago connectors left after my last wiring repair but I won't be doing 'owt.
  5. Yes it does but no it won't. We'll do it via the ceiling at a later date. hardwall = wet plaster, not dabbed plaster boards
  6. It's hard to get a good photo but these joists are nowhere near the beam now. Being sorted today
  7. This was previously an oitside light so I'm just going to remove the spur
  8. Lol, amd that loose end is blue and brown so it's been put in recently but no idea what it's doing.
  9. They're too big so need resizing. They don't hang about. Joiners in today to fix the joists and replace the floor, plasterers in tomorrow to finish. AND they're using hardwall not boards.
  10. Theres only 1 solution to this, burn it down. Anything else is a fool's errand.
  11. I would post pics but photo bucket is being a PITA. Wiring is not work being done at the moment but has been done under my ownership but I couldn't tell you the culprit.
  12. Tidier than usual aftermath too. Fair play, a lot of muck was taken from the ceiling cavity Just need to take out some redundant piping and route a smoke alarm cable tonight although not happy with some wiring I've seen.
  13. Off to an inauspicious start as the builder was/is an hour late so I've had to go to work without seeing him/them.Lets see the mess that awaits me later. Just trying to see if there's any 'details' I've missed in previous posts. The bolted beam connection was not exactly bolted tightly but the good news from looking through the ceiling from underneath is that there seems to be plenty of room between the steel beams to get at the back of the web to bolt on a wooden plate to hang the joists off properly
  14. To be fair TP should be free delivery even if I have to blag it for being so close. Not doing this day in, day out, I've no idea locally who to get stuff like this off.
  15. I have this very problem. Only a short section of gutter but the few tiles that extend too far cause the water to cascade to the ground over the gutter. Bad in heavy rain and this is only a small roof. If I'm home, its dry enough to get on the roof and daylight at any time in the next 6 months I might be able to get a photo to show how little a gutter 'overhang' causes an issue.
  16. Answer my own question, Wickes is cheaper
  17. Thought there was a merchant's thread but couldn't find it. As I didn't do much building myself, I haven't used them much but have a Tragic Pickings account as they are at the end of the road from the house. Got an email from them yesterday with a price list, never had that before. they trying to up their game? Went to Selco a few times but had to use someone else's account. Could do with going again but seems hard to open a personal account there. But what I wanted to ask is that the Travis 'menu' has Type 1 at £41 a bag. Is that a good price for small amounts? I need something to build up some big holes in my drive but I don't want shoot that's muckier than the mud that's already there.
  18. Too late for Ferd, but may suit someone http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/b-q-knauf-ekoroll-loft-insulation-half-price-now-9-free-c-c-2539920 not checked the unit price myself but sounds alrigjt
  19. My (not getting any younger) parents took out the bath from their upstairs bathroom a few years ago and replaced with a shower enclosure - 3 bed ex-council house. Always the option for someone to put one back in. @Nickfromwales Would you travel as far east as Bridgend? Not the posh end, 5mins south of J36. Cos' its shocking and and will no doubt need re-doing in a couple of years.
  20. Have you got anything non potable like boss white instead? I could do with poisoning the wife with it rather than trying to fix the joints.
  21. Could be worse @Onoff, I haven't even managed to get a seal on a service valve and WC flexi connection in about 3 months.
  22. I was expecting a minimal amount of ground work to back fill around the site after the building work was completed. There should be about 2 brick courses of cover there. And I don't know quite why it was taken to that corner. It could have gone the other way which would have made it easier to get the required fall and give it more cover.
