Floating or Fully Bonded floor over UFH
Barney12 replied to Stones's topic in Wood & Laminate Flooring
I completely agree with @joe90 Floating floors sound hollow, bonded sound solid. Bonded are also less noisy under foot. -
Out of interest was the issue the with the gap width or the alignment of the faces? Is the issue the variability of the plaster thickness or bead movement or the subsequent fitting of the skirting? Sorry that's a lot of questions
-
Hmmmm. It makes you wonder why someone hasn't developed a back frame with integrated bead which a skirting/architrave then attaches to. This would simplify alignment?
-
Thanks guys, really helpful. I'm trying to see why there is an absolute need for double plasterboarding? Surely the correct support of the bead could be achieved with the right level of detaining* and thus at a much lower cost? *For example it would be incredibly simple to create 6mm ply fillets/packers to support the bead and a single skin of plasterboard.

When ours was done the circuits were simply extended using chocky blocks enclosed within Ashley Junction boxes like this: https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/ASJ701.html I'll be honest and say I was quite surprised how basic it was. Note though that it was a fair few years ago now and the regs may have changed. In fact I'm certain there is now a requirement for access to none permanent joins. Hence why there are now these https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/ASJ804.html

18mm is going to give you a structural board. Are you really going to notice 7mm? (by the way I would be the same as you but I'm just trying to save you another job )

LOL. Genius. I knew there was a reason to have kids. -
I know I'm going to regret it but I'm seriously considering shadow gaps, at least downstairs. I still want skirting and architrave though so it will be above/to the side of that (obviously square edge). Does anyone have any tips (other than: don't do it )?

FFS. I despaire! -
6 cheap patio slabs and a weak mix of sand and cement? Material cost circa £30? Place the mix on a piece of DPM so it doesn't stain your existing slabs.

oh feck. That's red card territory

I have to say I came to the same conclusion. The website doesn't exactly tell you much. There is a vast array of intelligent, interlinked rad thermostats about these days. Many with Apple HomeKit, Nest etc etc integration.

Actually as I heard it...... Faye needed her Magner..fier

What a great idea. We have on of those "poles" sat on the floor with a stack of rolls on it and it drives me nuts!! -

Oh and check to see if your design could meet your PD rights. https://interactive.planningportal.co.uk/mini-guide/outbuildings/0

Timber Frame is a perfectly acceptable form of construction here. Plenty on here have done, are doing or plan to do timber frame houses. As long as your plans are to scale and meet the requirements of your LPA then you'll be fine. There is no need to use CAD generated drawings. Lots of information on the portal: https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200232/planning_applications Don't forget you'll need to engage building control too. P.S. Welcome!

Not only that but why would you leave so little standing. The loss of zero rated VAT alone would seem crazy?
