  1. Answering my own question I see that McAlpine make an AAV which can be placed below the flood level. So I'm wondering if this is the best layout? You can see that our ground floor is bigger than the upper so I have the roof/loft void for pipe runs.
  2. Flipping them isn't going to be an option (I wont bore you with why). So does the AAV also have to be as high as possible or can the AAV be on a ground floor stub?
  3. I have actually seen that done in real life!! But, on a much longer span. Several Philippino's one end as ballast the other at the other end changing light fittings with a very large drop below. It was the atrium of a cruise ship. I won't name the operator or ship but save to say it's not that uncommon to see such ingenuity!
  4. Looks like a pretty average day for the local roofing guy I know.
  5. Do you have children by any chance? I don't think you ever learn to turn the lights off until you are the one paying the electricity bill !!
  6. I guess it's a classic case of "each to their own". My wife can't abide "stuff" or "personal effects" on display. To own them is fine, to display them is just wrong. Even books must be hidden. As for my office......well that's off limits and can best be described as "Devine Chaos"
  7. Which company is this? I assume its : http://www.drainagepipe.co.uk
  8. Setting aside the fact that Grand Designs House of the Year is nothing short of a "willy waving" exercise for RIBA and Kevin McCloud......... I do think that's the point and in fairness it was a point that was made on the program last night. No its not representative of the vast majority of builds BUT innovation on these types of "grand designs" does and can trickle down into the mainstream. Its really no different than "concept cars", "formula 1" and "London Fashion Week". All are examples of ridiculous sums of money, grand designs and pomp. But, whats there does make its way down into "the common herd" where us mortals reside.
  9. I agree. Some stunning properties. The artists house which mimicked the outbuildings of the original plot, but in reverse was inspired.
  10. Garador are owned my Hormann I don't believe their is a link between Novoferm or Garador/Hormann, certainly not at a company/corporate level.
  11. Hi All I've just been pondering my soil pipe locations. Am I right in assuming that best practice is to take the soil run outside to a chamber as quickly as possible to aid rodding etc? As you can see in the attached picture I've assumed that scenario, but could equally have a single run under the slab but that seems like a massive issue if there were ever a blockage. I also assume that more soil pipe locations is much better than long lengths of 40/50mm waste? All of the chambers shown are to the North of the property in a fairly narrow access strip so there are no asthetic issues at all. Here's the layout:
  12. Professional Consultants Certificates
  13. Thanks will take a look.
  14. Id be interested to know what the issues were. But, equally would understand if you didn't want to comment on a public blog.
  15. Problems or Weather?
  16. How long have they been onsite now?
  17. I fell across this online: http://www.s147629948.websitehome.co.uk/saponline/documents/SAPDataForm.xls Is that all that's needed (plus dimensions) for a basic new build SAP Calc?
  18. Hi @Nickfromwales I feel a bit guilty nudging you..............but.............did you every get chance to speak to Sunamp? P.S. I'm over the guilt now
  19. Exactly! 64 m2 of glazing in my place. Most of it doors/sliders
  20. That doesn't really work for me as the two biggest costs (by far) are the timber frame (package to be supplied most likely by MBC) and windows. Neither of which I would contemplate ordering until the drawings have been signed off. Edit: I may though order my roofing slates (Spanish) as they are a given type (as approved). Possibly blocks?
  21. This issue is really worrying me. I cant afford a 17% hike in material costs.
  22. How much! does that include the rental of a man with a sandwich board!?!?!?!
  23. Sorry. Must try and keep up
  24. They work for me?
  25. I agree and in my case I'm on my third officer (4 if you include the head of planning that has picked up the file on a temporary basis twice now) as the first two left on long term sick! They are absolute masters at manipulating the supposed "time frames" for applications too.
