  1. It’s the most expensive insulation out there!
  2. Go straight up?
  3. My bathroom door opens outwards, designed that way to future proof wheelchair access
  4. Solar PV and solar thermal given the size of the roof Unvented cylinder with solar coil for solar thermal, immersions off PV diverter, bottom immersion for off peak heating GSHP, ASHP or A2A heating cooling. Prior to all of that a heat loss calculation to work out heating demand.
  5. Manual handling and all that good old HASAW 1974
  6. Was 10.268 p per unit of gas now 7.463p per unit of gas effective 1st July
  7. That’s octopus energy dropped their charges approx 17%.
  8. Wrap some black tape around it or colour to match area it will be installed, will help it last from the UV but imagine you will get 10plus years out of it if twin and earth flung outside has anything to go by, you could always sleeve with plastic kopex if it were a concern..
  9. Put a 50mm duct in, let’s you backfill and electrician can pull duct through later? some electricians may not sign off work that they can’t see so may not be keen on you running cables What electrical equipment will you be using in the outbuilding?
  10. Problem with mounting camera at the eaves, is it makes facial recognition difficult, don’t get me wrong it’s good for overall security, but you could also run a conduit behind a rainwater down pipe to approx 2m to get a good head shot. security is like onions- layers. Perimeter fence/doors. signage. security lighting. interior lighting/timers. house security cctv prickly bushes/planting all the above can help secure a home. of course as Nick says only applies to rational people, work away at the above. some good solar floodlights with pir from Screwfix for under £50, with separate solar panels so light can be in different location. dog running free signage is a good start With dog bowl left at front door so anyone coming up to’ deliver’ sees it. plenty of decent security too, you have ring, they do house alarms. keep safe mate
  11. Do you have outdoor power? do you have Wi-Fi external to the house? how finished is the house for adding cabling is this is the route that is required? I have a ring stick up camera at the back door, good coverage, however needs Wi-Fi. pretty discreet if you want it to be or go the other way to let everyone see them
  12. Well when I watch the green keepers at a local club, they regularly fit new turf. they always water for hours…. And the grass looks great
  13. Electric chainsaws not as scary but still scary, less fatigue..
  14. Heat loss calculator on proposed remodel works will give you design info for the ASHP. You will need to specify tape and means of sealing with a specific product or the cheapest/ most available product will be used and the builder will have complied with the spec unless further detail is given. What about PV cabling What about EV cabling, but these easy to install while remodelling works take place generally harder later.. Just adding thoughts, good luck!
  15. Normally when the heating is on to see the heat escaping there has to be a difference for the camera to see it so generally heating on full belt to see any leaks
  16. Probably, resist the temptation to offer too much info
  17. Fully agree, easy to send them an email and get quotes, I might even give them a drawing and say they have to allow for excavation, backfill, full reinstatement of paving etc to make sure all the quotes were nice and high
  18. paste from the regs Buildings in areas isolated from a relevant public electronic communications network where both of the following apply. i. The cost of providing a connection to a USO-standard public electronic communications network connection would exceed the cost cap (see paragraph 2.21). ii. The prospect of a connection to a gigabit-capable public electronic communications network, a high-speed public electronic communications network or a USO-standard public electronic communications network is too remote to justify equipping the building with gigabit-ready physical infrastructure or an access point. End paste not saying I wouldn’t stick a duct in for it, just that if it’s cost prohibitive no one is going to stop you using you own means for comms…
  19. And you can close the trickle vents off too in the winter
  20. Get the roofing company to supply the access, that way they will Be keen to get it up and down, it’s installed the way they like it and there are less people involved to mess it up that’s what i did, and took advantage to repaint fascia’s and soffits while their scaffold was up!
  21. You could open the window
  22. You could fit a vent axia low carbon fan to provide continuous ventilation
  23. I would keep the polystyrene away from cables, issue with plasticiser in the cables and polystyrene not a good combo. if you have a building inspector coming what does your drawing say?
  24. 4G LTE modem with external antenna
