  1. You don’t give them heat loss calculations, THEY give it to you as part of the design for the install……. every house is suitable for a heat pump, it just needs designed correctly, appropriate electrical tariffs selected etc etc
  2. Highlight to them your mental health issues and ask them to hold the installation get a copy of the heat loss calculations done for every room in the house to determine how they have come to their design decisions. ask to see a schematic of the proposed installation
  3. Gus is the man for this!
  4. Fast forward 10 years and the house isn’t working due to lack of IT updates…. get a light switch, at a push a PIR on the lights too. Stock up on batteries for remote controls life is too short for home automation, the drama that goes along with it!!
  5. Fit Night storage heaters on the off peak electricity, mine are in 7.5p per unit of electricity so comparable with a good ASHP efficiency based on 29.96 per unit if day time electricity.. quiet, easy to control, no drama
  6. A buffer will have more connections.
  7. You need to supply photos, this was the issue before when we all tried to help… Why not forget about the buffer when you don’t want to use it, forget about it and just use the immersion heater… so learn about what you actually want to use.
  8. If you don’t want to use it, just make sure the cylinder/tank has an immersion that you can manually turn on/off for you hot water..
  9. this is why the heat loss calculation is so important for any heating system the ASHP is just a source of heat, like a wood burner, gas boiler, electric panel heater, if the heat loss advises you need 8kW of heat to maintain say 21 deg inside when it’s -3 outside you need 8kW or more, by any combination of source..
  10. Agree with the above, have all the loops you want but keep them all on one manifold with no heads. Lots of individually controlled zones will kill efficiency
  11. Plenty ASHP’s designed without bufffer tanks if piped correctly, did you have wet central heating before and the old radiators were reused? where is you hot water tank?
  12. I think you need to ask to see the heat loss calculations for the house to see if they have this right from the offset, then to agree on size of unit and positioning of equipment .
  13. Magnetic contact/reed switch on the toilet seat?
  14. The skirting block is thicker than the architrave and skirting. it’s taller than the skirting its wider than the arcitrave it’s sits at the bottom of the door and the skirting butts into it as does the architrave
  15. A skirting block?
  16. Doesn’t look like it would cause any problems, do use 50mm pipe, much better to have an air break in the pipe.
  17. Get a cover over the isolators so they aren’t accidentally switched off, a simple wooden box or something?? Assuming your alert system works on float switches? go to the Shelly website and buy a Wi-Fi flood sensor for £30 and peace of mind. you can of course run a hose into the tank and get the pumps to pump in hand this clean water to flush the system slightly, add some hot water to the tanks afterwards with some degreaser or washing up liquid, let it sit for a while, rinse and repeat. it’s generally the build up of crud that causes problems. Maintenance companies exist for these things, they will lift pumps, clean, check for blockages. So unless you want to do this yourself worth the money. I have 4 small sites on a maintenance contract with Kingspan anything spend preventing a disaster involving dirty water/sewerage is worth it, compared to the hassle and time involved in clean up afterwards. good luck
  18. Reminds me of the near identical crack in my lounge wall. turns out it was the rainwater down pipe on the external of the wall not fully connected into the underground pipework washing away everything around it, thankfully the Victorians built this house not to badly so after the repair it’s not moved in 18years.
  19. Tapo smart plug, let’s you set a unit price,
  20. What about using the 2 that already fitted at the end of manifolds, just screw hose adapters to them when required?
  21. Put the boiler onto a plug and plug it into a tado smart plug. monitors power consumption, nice app, under £15 the last time I bought one
  22. I use a site hoover while doing insulation in the loft. Collects air borne particles, saves having to wear a mask and the breathing issues with a mask
  23. Only if they spot them
  24. We use their colour charts and then get it colour matched into crown paint, my work painter won’t use farrow and ball but all the designers like to use it, no one is any the wiser.
  25. Yes it was posted last week
