  1. Make a feature of it? It will be very difficult to blend perfectly even with the same bricks so don’t try to hide it. You could go with something completely different or decorative brick bonding. Simplest way is to set the new (similar) brickwork in reveal, set back the same as the existing door frame.
  2. Another potential route is an indemnity insurance. I guess it is more or less the same thing as a retrospective warranty but might be worth asking the question.
  3. Use the number shown on the receipts, HMRC will make the connection
  4. Why do you need a separate supply, can’t you run it off the existing property? You might need to keep the power demand low, what heating and hot water systems have you planned?
  5. Agree with @G and J, sounds like they are just getting drawn into the ducting, unlikely to be living inside the MVHR
  6. Mine makes less noise than the neighbour’s bathroom extractor fan. Also quieter than the wind blowing through nearby trees and birds singing! Only notice it when walking past within a metre.
  7. Note, I have used moth smoke bombs before but not with MVHR. If I had the same problem, I would try lighting one near the inlet and let it go through the system on low fan speed (following manufacturer’s instructions of course!)
  8. What do you mean by ‘in house’ MVHR filter? Is that the central unit supply filter? Moths should not be getting through the filters unless they are living and breeding in the heat exchanger matrix! Should be relatively easy to fumigate the system with an insecticide smoke bomb.
  9. The cill should have a groove to prevent rain drips running back to the wall
  10. I think there is some sense in what he said. If you install a drip say 30mm off the wall, there will be quite a bit of the run off gets blown back on the wall. Will reduce the staining, not eliminate it.
  11. Building control don’t care about being level, only meeting regulations. How much difference between high and lowest points? My subfloor was about 40mm out, I filled some low spots which reduced the difference to 20mm and made the rest up in the screed.
  12. I have got an Einhell 2225U 254mm saw, not cut anything 45mil thick but works well with on most stuff.
  13. I had 3 large bathrooms done, took about a week, 4 full days and early finish on Friday. 6” tiles are very small these days, it shouldn’t make much difference to installation cost.
  14. If the boards are warped, they will never sit flat. Suggest you send them back and change for engineered (cross laminated) timber boards.
  15. Welcome Ian, there are a few of us in Lincs. Let us know if you need any recommendations for trades and suppliers. Have you got any plans to share?
  16. I believe so, or hope so because I’m at the same stage. Looking for confirmation from those who have done it
  17. +1 tile before you even confirm the staircase order so you get exact measurement
  18. I see a few mentions of the expense of MVHR. I self installed a simple system complete for less then £1500 in a 260m2 house. It has no sensors just manual boost which we use occasionally, otherwise it stays on trickle rate 24/7, even when some doors and windows are open. Really happy with the air quality (which I monitor with sensors), best value for money in the whole project and a no brainer in a new house IMO.
  19. £225 last month, they couldn’t get a stable reading due to wind so coming back next week (260m2 but no difference AFAIK)
  20. Can’t you get this size beam in one piece if you are lifting it mechanically? I got a 10m length of 203x102.
  21. Looks like a truly shoddy job! Are you in a very exposed location which might make it deteriorate quicker? Ultimate solution would be replace the render and beading. However I would try to repair first. Scrape paint and stains from the beads, apply a rust inhibitor and cover with several coats of oil based sealer paint.
  22. Be prepared that trades may not follow every detail! They tend to do what is normal practice, occasionally referring to the drawings for critical dimensions.
  23. Use spacers for an equal gap. Install panels level at the top, nobody (else) will notice 10mm difference at the bottom especially inset between posts.
  24. Can’t comment on other makes but we have Origin windows and doors (double glazed). Not the best performance on paper but work well and feel like they will stand the test of time.
