  1. Lidl had a cracker in recently, and I spy the same unit (but in yellow) in Tesco filling stations. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Parkside-Rechargeable-Work-Light-PAAS-A1-BNIB-FAST-FREE-POSTAGE-34-98/302935746753?hash=item468860a8c1:g:up4AAOSwdrhbxyw3:rk:1:pf:0 ^ that's a daft price, it was £19.99 in Lidl and I think £25 in Tesco. Running time is absolutely as quoted, it's a superb lamp.
  2. Had a surprise visit from the BCO on Tuesday, and I was glad to be there and to meet him. Finally. So far so good, no structural hitches or queries and a general air of impressed-ness with the quality of the build. I hope I can keep it up. A milestone passed today. TF erectors are finished, with the roof weathertight all internal structures complete and, I'm grateful that the lads had time to knock up a temp staircase on my request. Next? Waiting for the window installers to come back. Just need to sort the scaffolding to suit them, but it'll no doubt be a week or two before there's an install slot again.
  3. Dunno where you get your oil boilers from, Nick...
  4. yup. from the BFCMA Install manual: "Under BS EN 15827-1 the twin wall system chimney should extend 425mm from the ceiling"
  5. add an NRV to kill any convective flow?
  6. Looks neat, but is there not now a requirement for a longer length of twinwall to be through the ceiling, 450mm or something?
  7. you don't want an obvious and accessible socket with a camera system...
  8. I ring the cover off with the tool's stripper (preset distance) then pull the cores out a touch before putting them in order. Pinch the cover to keep the cores out then nip off any long ones, then shove'em into the plug. Squeeze, done. Hit rate's probably 80%+ but it's easy to work out which end's duff as the tester gives distance to break...
  9. I'm with FirstTrust over here (previously TSB before they dumped us out...) and both they and the Ulster Bank use the calculator-ey code generator. Works well, hassle free. FT more recently closed our most local branches, but did a deal with the Post Office so it's actually easier for me to make lodgements now than whenever there was a branch. Walk round the corner to the PO counter at the local Spar, hand envelope over, done.
  10. https://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-led-floodlight-10w-black-daylight/604cc
  11. we've got battens round all the openings.
  12. Just fitted a LAP 10W unit out of Screweys for a friend, they've got a neat terminal block that's covered by the screw-on cable gland. Clever.
  13. It's the firestops- a strip of rockwool sealed into a polythene bag, basically. Stapled on...
  14. Felt fairies were here today.
  15. what are the paving slabs for?
  16. Just for completeness, and because it may well help someone in future, detail attached. Note that it depicts their DM pumice flue but applies equally to the ceramic products. DM2 (stove external rendered stack timberframe)-Model(1).pdf
  17. me neither, but then I'm not the one that was wandering about the top of the steels.
  18. I'd gone quiet for a bit... Pace has slowed a touch for the fiddly work round the dormer etc. But the ceiling joists are all in, rafter ends trimmed off, fascia, felt trays and vents all on. Oh, and the firebattens for... the windows. which arrived today. But won't be fitted for a week. installer feels the scaff is a bit close as he needs to fully open them etc, so we'll just have to wait for the TF guys to complete their stuff and then we can pull the hop-ups off and then the doors and windows can go in kiddies. In the interim, they do look pretty leaning together in the kitchen. The sticks of lath leaning against the scaff are hinting at a weathertight roof tomorrow or Friday, yay!
  19. Right then just waiting on some drawings from Schiedel, WRT using their Ignis Protect to bring stovepipe through the TF and into the Swift Air. Means I can just build a TF panel to fill in the current gap (w/ stud centres to suit the Ignis)and plunk it into place. 200mm masonry alcove freestanding on the inside for the stove, and all airtightness, insulations and cavities intact. Sounds like a winner?
  20. Thanks Jeremy. Our verge trim is a 50mm special for the chosen clay tile so there should be space there to sneak the edge of the GSE side flashing in too. Gets us pretty close to the edge without needing to faff too much. What about at valleys? We'll be using an upstand dry valley like your own, I presume the mounting plate could overlap the valley tray as long as the side flashing was trimmed back as necessary?
  21. planning Q for @JSHarris or anyone else with experience of the GSE system- what's the closest one can get to the verge- as we're using a Kytun- style strip, can the GSE tray go straight into that or does there have to be a side flashing (what's it's width, fitted?) or must there be (say) a slate and a half first? And is there really no other treatment required if you end the tray into the gutter at the eaves? Does it need to stop short to stop the water from cascading off the panel and past the gutter? Now that we've roof timbers in-situ and we know how wide the valleys are I'm trying to take a punt at how many panels we can cram in. I've tried Midsummer's online planner but I'm not sure how much side flashings can overlap valleys by etc...
  22. what happens if there are marked daily swings with your system, @TerryE? Say ambient is 15c one day, 7c the next or v/v, as we're seeing locally at the mo...
  23. I asked for- and received- quotes for both plain timber *and* and upgrade to posijoists from a number of TF companies. The upcharge varied between 2-3k depending on whether they were re-sizing for screed upstairs as well.
  24. ...and looking in some more detail the system is 40mm to combustibles so we don't need such a gaping hole in the TF which will minimise the area that is a thermal issue.
  25. cheap pex-al-pex, a touch cheaper still for a km. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Underfloor-heating-pipe-16mm-PEX-AL-PEX-200-meter/323543239742?hash=item4b54ae0c3e:g:TWIAAOSww7tb5wq-:rk:8:pf:0
