More boring steel beam drilling questions
Roys replied to Conor's topic in RSJs, Lintels & Steelwork
Are you across the water in Stranraer end of this week, I am and you are welcome to borrow my mag drill. -
I did my apprenticeship at the start of the 80’s 1st year of which covered a broad range of skills including arc welding, I was fairly decent at it. Fast forward 20 years I bought a welder, got a lump of scrap steel and away I went, my welding was rubbish, spoke to welder to ask what I was doing wrong, and he echoed what was being said on thread. Steel ain’t what it used to be, gone are the days of top quality British Steel, mostly from China now with all sorts of strange lumps in it. He gave me a couple bits of decent steel and my welding was much better.

Used to be a MK man but not for about 15 years, Scolmore Click now, have had only one failure in 15 years. Nice extensive range and a nice shape to them.

Not much 110V on sites now, even vacuum cleaners are mostly battery, sds drills fairly much battery from about 5 years ago, drills and impact drivers have been battery for a long time, as said above the only 110V stuff you tend to see now is big chop and table saws and demolition type Kangos..

Something I have always had is decent first aid kits and have had to use them on myself on a few occasions as I have had a few injuries over the years, -

Yip got their cd, good band. -
I bought a house 15 years ago, it had been built about 10 years previous but was never signed off, my solicitor had to get a “letter of comfort” from the council, I’m afraid I don’t know much more detail as I just let the solicitor deal with everything. I dare say a lot depends on the council and the solicitor, Scotland as well.

Will pre collapse be a concern when he is using galvy trunking @TonyT ? i will using galvy 2x2 or 3x3 in garages / workshops, usually come of it with 20mm plastic conduit down to sockets and switches.

Whenever I use GP I tend to keep my dog away from it for an hour, as said above the council use it liberally along all the path edges, no warning signs etc so I presume the risk is low.

The couple did well, they put a lot of effort into it rather than paying lots of people and they did a quality job in my opinion. Like it.

That looks fab.

It’ll be easy, just make sure you either roll the drum to get the cable off or elevate it so that the drum spins, if you have the drum flat on the ground and not moving and you just start taking the cable off you will end up with a nest like slinky coil tangled mess.

Is it going in a trench or through the building fabric. if in a trench just roll it out out along line at side of trench. If through fabric of building I would use a short scaffold pole and a couple of car axle stands, with a spare bloke stabilising it all and helping unwind it while you take the loose end on its travels.

My mate is an upholster, I can see a business opportunity 😀

I installed a cat5 to every room, two to the office, I use 3 of them, one for the tv virgin box in living room, one for the tv virgin box in bedroom and one to the computer in office. The signal is definitely a lot less flakey than the WiFi.

I rewired my house a couple of years ago, and I ran individual t&e to every switch and light fitting to two central junction boxes, one mounted on a board in the loft for the upstairs lights and the other in the cupboard at the top of the stairs for the downstairs lights. Again easily assessable and mounted on a wooden board in the cupboard. Inside each JB the terminals are all DIN rail mounted and ident sleeves put onto each core to identify it. Did it that way so that I had the option to easily make it SMART or easily modifiable in the future. Just found a pic of the JB at the top of the stairs when it was about 3/4 done.

I have a 2.5kW system, it has been in for 11 years now, I log my quarterly readings, maybe I have just been lucky but I have noticed no drop off in my generation figures so far.

Clothes Line, to cut back on your tumble drier perhaps.

I like painted ply with the most regularly used tools on it, plus files up on a rack as they don’t do well in a drawer or tool box.

Smoke Alarm Regs change in Scotland
Roys replied to Temp's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Fire service is now fitting 10 year sealed battery radio linked detectors in Scotland for vulnerable people so that has to be fairly official. -
