Cable restrictors are used on hotel windows and high office windows. They don’t allow the window to fully open unless removed for fire egress. Option ..?

It looks neater and tbh it is pennies. Also stops you losing screws etc under the edges and stops draughts.

What's the issue? Help Please ?
PeterW replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
He’s talking rubbish http://www.greengenuk.com/mitsubishi-ecodan-installation-11-2kw-heat-pump-polperro/ Perfectly acceptable and what he hasn’t done is RTFM.... Basically this is a straight wiring job, the FTC5 controller has a boost setting. They wire the Eddi/iBoost NV switch to the correct terminals as per the installation guide. -
Oops. Didn't get that bit right! Eaves slates will rattle a bit!.
PeterW replied to dnb's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
Remove the lower slates and add in the lifter slate and then refit. -
Just on this you will need to plan for how you would remove the liner to replace it in future. That requires access to both ends of the flexible liner, and it looks like you will only have access to the top..? I think you may need to remove a couple of joints before continuing, potentially replace the 6” through the wall with 8” and route the liner through this.

No - Permitted Development is just that. It is something you can do with deemed prior permission. You need to meet building regulations but it does not need permission as long as it is within the guidance. All the details are here https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200130/common_projects/36/loft_conversion

Shared Driveway Access Issues
PeterW replied to mediumbuild's topic in House Extensions & Conservatories
Sorry about your neighbours but they have no basis for anything legal with you on this. Let them be irrational - last person that tried that with me got a warning for criminal damage and has been quiet as a mouse since. Delivery drivers are used to this sort of thing - as long as it’s 10-15 mins then they cannot complain and the drivers are well versed in being polite to people about how they will only be a few minutes. Why create stress - and additional cost - for yourself ..? You may find a delivery of bricks or blocks cannot be made to the roadside as you will need a good 2 hours to move 6 packs of bricks and blocks and that will obstruct the pavement and potentially cause a hazard to pedestrians. You need to take the Neighbours head on with this I suspect. -
32mm fits on brackets but not sure why they don’t make slightly larger for 40mm tbh. Would only take another 5mm

65mm from memory

What is the daily rate for a roof slater?
PeterW replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
Not sure I would go day rate as tbh as @Oz07 says, this is very visible and can cause significant issues if they get it wrong including leaks and potentially a strip and replace to resolve. This is not an area to cut costs - get 3 prices to get a feel of what is being offered and then go and physically see the work they have done previously. Lead work for example is something that separates the men from the boys here... -

Actually ... who is doing the layout on the roof and the membrane and battens..? Also, who is taking responsibility for the pitch and headlap being correct ..?? -

Shared Driveway Access Issues
PeterW replied to mediumbuild's topic in House Extensions & Conservatories
It would rely on the legal definition of reasonable. It would be reasonable to expect deliveries to a property and it would be reasonable to expect that they take a period of time to be undertaken. Where a deed of covenant has a reference to obstruction then it would be likely that it refers to a permanent obstruction of the driveway, such as installing gates or other structures. -
Usual reason for a creaking stair is a lack of glue on the wedges and the tread joints which allows movement. If you get the joiner to glue the stairs together properly then you get little or no movement.

Shared Driveway Access Issues

Hiab won’t reach that far but most merchants are good about putting pads down under jacks etc when they deliver to minimize any damage as they are liable for the damage not you. I would carry on regardless - a delivery takes 5-10 mins tops and they will be done. You’re not unreasonably obstructing the highway so nothing really the neighbour can do. A skip on the road needs a permit and is expensive (adds £55 round here) but they do have the ability to damage paving due to weight. And no, 10-12m with a barrow is nothing so tell the builder to have extra shredded wheat for breakfast and crack on !! -
I’ve got some enemies who could fill that ...

Old frame will probably be screwed in. Check the frame once you take the glass out and you may find some big screws. Get some hammer fix frame fixers as they just need a drill to fit them. Then foam in around the edges, let it go hard and trim back before you do a sealant bead and replace the render.
-
If they want to get in, they go through the walls. Locks and bolts work fine but I’ve seen them peel back the wall to get into a shed. If you’ve got tools then get a van vault or tool store and bolt it or chain it to a concrete block set in the ground below the floor.

Ok so if it’s standard P5 just price check it against Wickes
-
All depends on the work included..? Are they looking at putting in dropped ceiling joists for example..? Are these being cut into the walls..? If they are doing structural work then it could be a good price, if its just a supended ceiling then it could be expensive. As @nod says, we could do with some plans to give an idea of what is being proposed.

Got any photos of what it is like..?
