  1. We have the same system, but went for the wireless boost switches, but never use them. The air clears pretty quickly, compared to traditional cr@p extractor fans, because of the constant supply flow. The unit takes care of boosting for showers with its humidity sensor. The wireless boost switches are bit 1980's so reside in drawers
  2. Thanks for all the information. phew! We don't have Solar and we are on a standard tariff so no difference in price. Will set it to come on at 1:00pm. We have limitations - the ASHP records at a resolution of 0.5kWh per hour, so COP calculations are all over the place, using less than 2 per day on DHW. But the smart meter measures at 1/2 hour intervals to 0.01kWh. so should be able to see some change there.
  3. First of many ASHP questions. So currently we have DHW set to heat to 42 degrees between 3 and 5 in the morning, this gives us enough hot water for the day. From the smart meter app we generally use between 1.5 and 2.0 kWh and it gets to temperature in around half an hour. The initial thinking was that at this time of day it would not interfere with the heating, but now I have turned the heating off for summer, I was thinking it may be slightly more efficient to run it when the air temperature is higher in the day time ? Thoughts please.
  4. We submitted plenty of Wickes type receipts that were accepted. Is that a paper receipt or Electronic. To be on the safe side add the delivery note, or confirmation email. or something with "sand" on, as it's description "custom item" is a little vague. Edit:- spelt Wickes right 🤔

Always good to have a look through the planning applications for your relevant borough / district council. see what was given and what was not. if anything like us, [built in a village of less than 100 homes] most of the applications are for more urban developments. Also reading the planning statements is a good thing to do. Also sometimes you can find a "planning expert" who knows what gets through. There are boxes to tick, some of which seem pretty irrelevant, but they smooth the way, such as where do you store your bins, and put them out to, sufficient room to allow a turning head [not sure that's the right term,] so that you drive in turn round and drive out. As said they seem pretty irrelevant if building a 250m2 house on 1/5th Acre, but totally relevant if someone was building 8 flats on the same land in town.

I'll let others comment on the price, but ensure the works in the quote is for a compliant multiservice trench to WPD [now NG] standards, else there will be a lot intakes of breath, tutting and "other works at an agreed hourly rate" when WPD turn up.   7. Welcome. lots of advise one here. We were where you were 3 1/2 years ago, with a quote for £40k for electric supply. Said it before on here, but it was almost stopping point, as that was the contingency gone, before we'd started. In the end we couldn't bear someone else building "our house" and us having to start again. Moved in last July. The important thing about the foundations is to plan for the extra, Our take off from the original drawing the SE provided was 28m3 concrete and by the time we'd finished due to finding old tree stumps in the ground clearance we ended putting in 69m3 So that cost us about £6k because we had the correct agreement in place with the ground worker. With out that agreement in place, there would have been lots of "more work" "more concrete" "15 - 20k". Worth popping up a redacted / anonymised sketch of your plot, there may be some contestable works you can do to move the cable underground. Is this an easement or wayleave and who with? Did your solicitor not pick this up in the searches ?
  8. Some to start with Services, connection / installation Site Insurance - inc public liability /employer liability. SE SAP / EPC GI Warrantee [if not provided by main contractor - all our quotes excluded it] Architect. BC Planning Uplift on the contractor's low PC Sums, Stuff for new house:- Carpets, Flooring, Blinds, Curtains, bathroom cabinets. Fancy Light fittings, new furniture etc etc Take away meals.
  9. My sound simple but draw a line round the stain with a sharpie [other pens are available] and take a photo see if its growing or reducing.
  10. We sorted ours out after Building Reg's approval, a couple of months before starting [Jan-20]. We used our local council BC. We started our self build mortgage application when we started, Took a couple of months to sort out. Not sure what we sent them for the application, but by that time we would have full set of approved drawings / spec.
  11. You may need to check that you unit is suitable for F7 as that is pretty strong [not sure if that's the right word] filter, and may affect performance if the unit isn't rated for it.
  12. We have none in our landing or hall, but do have an extract vent in a large cupboard on the landing, [as well as small radiator that never comes on] as SHMBO wanted an "airing cupboard" like we had in the last house, so a bit of air flow helps final drying and prevents moisture build up.

  14. As others said it should be in Building Regs Application. Ours said, something like soak away following percolation test. Following Ground investigation [6m deep cores] the GI engineer said it was not worth doing a perc test as it will fail [We are on Clay - Something about Thrussington and Gunthorpe Members !!]. No Watercourse nearby, so Water Authority let us connect to the foul sewer attenuated to 2 l/s. We then paid a SE quite a bit to design an expensive solution including crates and vortex valve. But went for combined SuDS and rainwater harvesting tank/system, designed for free, and probably cheaper and easier to install. This was accepted by the water board, Once accepted by them BCO wasn't interested, only on the drains leading to the connections.

  16. Ouch... Our electrician installed our Texecon premier to first fix and panels. 6 wired and 5 wireless transmitters [my supply]. for various reasons, he never got round to finalising the install. Local CCTV / Alarm Company - Installing bell, 5 PIR's and Wireless Shocks and then programming - £250 - about 3 hours work for 2 guys. Happy to take on the the work, and they get there advert on my Bell.

  20. A quick one, what's the name of this type of gable, where it extends above the tile line and is generally capped in stone ?
  21. After 35 years experience buying a multitude of garden furniture......it's not about the price you pay it's ... about the time and effort you invest and spend in preserving them.

I have..... but it seems the one I bought is the most complicated piece of kit I have ever encountered that and the fact the LCD / Polarisation seems to be focused so I have to look about 80 degrees upwards to get a decent view, lying on the floor that my knees will let me get down but not so committal to let me get up 🤣 "As the filter blocks up the current consumption increases" .... I agree . So we are changing filters every 1 or 2 months.
  23. I am now, but wasn't when I got my quote From what I remember - with WPD [now NG] we could have accepted the quote, and delayed the start. My "dropped kerb", which was not a dropped kerb as there no kerb to drop. It is just a few edgings and a trapezoid shaped bit of asphalt. Cost around £1500 for the council to do with their own people. It's pretty poor quality, and if we'd done it ourselves they'd have made us do it again. Also the main Open Reach Fibre to the whole of the village, cable runs underneath there in a duct so we would not have been popular if we'd have damaged that.
