Maybe add some rusty farm machinery, some deep furrows, a couple of brightly coloured skips and a smattering of abandoned vehicles to the existing model. A tumbledown greenhouse, caravan(s) and maybe a broken swing for good measure. All just for eyesore value. It'll make the new one look positively uncluttered.

I think it was @PeterStarck told me that once everything was sealed up, all they had heating wise for the whole house was a 2 or 3kW fan heater switched on "occasionally" whilst working in there throughout a nasty winter. With NO heating on when I visited, it without doubt felt the warmest house I'd ever been in. A testament to these heavily insulated, air tight builds when done well.

Isn't grout less flexible though than silicone? I'd assumed if under the flooring there was a mat, then there would be some "give" and treading near the edge would crack grout?

Special tool? Nah, don't bother. On a long run like that an EMPTY silicone tube is what you want. Put a drop of Fairy in a jug with some water. Cut the end off the silicone tube SQUARE. None of that 45deg b@llocks. Flatten the end a bit and dip the in the soapy water. Go along your silicone and it leaves a lovely neat filet. Excess collects in the empty tube. Periodically re-dip in the water: Maybe I'll do a video! Taught to me by a Moldovan commercial glazing fitter.

Silicone as it's flexible. I think I'd masking tape both wall and floor, apply the silicone then peel off the tape.

No, I meant would a green roof help lessen the visual impact and maybe help swing things. Also, for the purpose of the model would painting the roof a darker grey, to blend with the "lake" colour be better?

How about painting the roof the same "grey" as the lake?

I built a couple of horizontally polarized, trough antennae for friends locally. Designed for optimum performance 538MHz i.e dead centre of Band A. They work a treat. A trough antennae is really just a corner reflector with the vertex removed and replaced with a plane reflector - which lends itself to fitting against a wall...or gable. These are vertically polarized, imagine turned thru 90deg for horizontaliy polarized. Waltham's signal is horizontally polarized. So a corner reflector: And a trough antennae, as above but with the vertex taken off: The construction can be sheet ali or mesh. For the first I used sheet ali. The second one was done in 1/2" galv mesh. If mesh is used it needs to be ideally 1/12 wavelength or smaller. I made the dipoles from 8mm ali tube from memory. I reckon the plane reflector could be hidden by the cladding on a gable then just have the two wings in mesh and the dipole on show. Admittedly probably not the off the shelf solution the OP was after! I'll maybe redo the maths later as I've mislaid my original paper calcs. I'd be careful about ingesting too much. Some concrete additives can render you quite ill...

My FiL used to work in a long since closed local power station. They had a raw asbestos filled panel fall from a crane hook in the turbine hall and it went everywhere when it hit the floor. He's had chest X-rays annually every year paid for by the company since and on into his retirement. Pretty sure I read on the website for our local tip that if you double bag it and only take so much per month you can get rid of there still. Something I need to eventually consider for the old roof panels on my tumbledown stable block.

Silly question but do you know what transmitter you want to pick up from? It'll be the one the majority of the local aerials are pointing at. ...and do any of your gables point that way, or near enough. Cunning plan...maybe.

As an aside I just bought a bag of 100 RJ45 plugs from Electricfix and the quality is good. Had some Maplin ones a while back and they were dire! I suspect @Nickfromwales already has the tools?
