  1. Some lopped off telegraph poles with reflectors screwed on?
  2. I can think of one...
  3. Wrap some 110mm pipe in tin foil and it'll look like stainless steel!
  4. I'd infill / tidy up the blockwork joints so they're flush with the blocks. Be easier to tank on a smooth 'ish surface.

    Gate Pillars

Did that one 3 years ago this month. Took me days!

    Gate Pillars

Got to repeat this the opposite of the garage now! That killed two SDS drills, a couple of 1m bits and nigh on me!

Gate related! Finally gotten around to running the gate wiring around the garage in some 50x50, galvanised, rat proof trunking. Even that's been a mission. Clearing stacked shelves to get access then the plugs wouldn't take in the lightweight blocks as so close to a joint. Resin anchors to the rescue! There's an SWA in there plus 2 20mm flexible conduits for comms, cameras etc to the gate. Got to shift a big, fully stacked shelf shortly to drill the floor slab again for a new incoming, underground supply. That and fit a new cu in there.
  9. Is the pond close to the house? Maybe use the lake for a heat pump? Lots of pipe, special, "safe", glycol maybe I think too.
  10. For me it was a mission to prove I/we could get a decent terrestrial TV picture. When nextdoor's conifers briefly blocked good reception I did dabble with a dirt cheap FTA box and dish. The box was rubbish TBA, kept switching off. The neighbour sorted the tree and normal service resumed.
  11. Yes, as well as the biggest Band A aerial, on a mast, I have a masthead amp.
  12. Google "socket lug fixers".
  13. I'm down in a deep valley, extreme fringe area from memory. I have the biggest Band A Yagi aerial from the above link pointed at Crystal Palace. I've made a couple of corner reflector aerials for neighbours. They work a treat but are big. One's in a hip end roof.
  14. Masses of info here. Honestly go nowhere else. https://www.aerialsandtv.com/site-contents To find your likely transmitter: https://www.aerialsandtv.com/knowledge/atv-transmitter-map Those houses that do have traditional roof top aerials in your area, look at which way the majority are pointing, that should give you a good idea. If in a fringe reception area go for a band specific aerial rather than a wideband. They're very helpful on the phone too.
  15. FFS! It's 5.10 in the morning and I type "if" instead of "of". I go back and correct it within seconds and it comes up: Edited just now by Onoff
  16. As long as you have a 3D model you can print it. Pretty much it's a doddle. Resin is tbh probably going to give the best quality. What's the finish like on the model under any overhangs like soffits and canopies? If done on an FDM (fusion deposit modelling) printer like my lads then PLA (poly lactic acid) is easiest to print / gives the best finish. Colour is immaterial. Again under the overhangs can look a bit rough and require "support". A dual extruder machine comes in handy whereby you can print the support structures in say PVA and then soak then off. PLA is then theoretically compostable given the right heat & moisture conditions. It's I think the most eco friendly of all the filaments. Btw it's my son who does the printing. I just come up with mad ideas.
  17. There might be some truth in the strong smelling natural products vs foxes. I'm expanding my veg patch so have been sieving soil and putting it in the bean enclosure to eventually bring the soil up to the height of the sleepers. It's lovely soil tbh, I can really see the appeal of crapping in it! However, nothing, not even a cat has crapped in it. Over the last couple of months the beans have been periodically sprayed with peppermint oil (nice) and also a neem oil (foul) mix. Of late I've been sprinkling neat chilli then curry powder, bought in bulk, around my sad looking butternut squash plants. This to deter slugs and snails it sort of works if in quantity. Guessing all these smells are keeping the bigger things out.
  18. Ditto anywhere there's a potential back door on Chinese equipment, be it infrastructure, emergency service gear or home electronics, routers etc. I firmly believe the flood of cheap plug in gadgets wouldn't stand an over voltage. Once they control (or hack) our utilities it all goes up (or down )at once.
  19. Older than 40 years, if converted to EV are MOT exempt I've just read. For that Bristol Clean Air Zone do you have to pre register the car?
  20. Out of interest, if you electrify an ICE classic car does it then qualify as a true EV? Then if it's under 40 years old but electric, would you avoid the ULEZ charge?
  21. Next you'll be quoting Mia Wallace's short lived TV series!
  22. Is it still at large?
  23. Yep, we rate this one as well. A tip that does work for cleaning the glass is to rub a dishwasher tablet over it. Dip it in water and rub on the glass. It has a gentle abrasive action as the tablet gets smaller.
