This (nice and cheap, insulated, good make) hatch needs 562mm between joists so just add a bit of ply to the side of one of the joists: https://www.buildingplasticsltdi.co.uk/Manthorpe-GL250-03-Loft-hatch-Access-Door-p/mangl250-03.htm It's 726mm the other way. Ideally you'll butt up to one existing noggin and fit a second one yourself.

Don't knock it, their feet are smaller so they can get nearer to kitchen appliances. Can't fight biology!

You'll be wanting a 4Orgy booster then.

I heard she wrote it after seeing the Hitchcock film. -
My patched plaster - things to do better next time?

This was the lad I "learnt" from when my boy & I plastered the bathroom ceiling and one half wall. Really pleased with both. Adding cream of tartar to the mix gives extra working time. Old plasterer's trick. It works. Easifill 20 is good too for filling those last imperfections. -

Is he thinking the mass of earth surrounding the bunker? -
Why out of interest? Is this a purpose designed mesh cage in cast concrete walls like in some HMG buildings I've worked in? ? Have you also got a tinfoil hat for when you go outside?

I still wonder if a concerted drive to more public self sufficiency in terms of "grow your own': allotments, teaching of such in schools, youth projects etc maybe even extending to small scale poultry keeping could offset imports. I grew up in a modest semi with a 100' garden devoted to growing veg by my father. Maybe it was because he'd grown up during WW2. Veg en masse was grown and a lot pickled / made into chutney. The only jam we had was from gathered wild fruit. Sounds idyllic and all a bit Famous Five but I bet it saved a few quid. Of course it would mean a paradigm shift away from social media to gain the time required to undertake such tasks. "We're all too busy now" my ar$e! It'll sound sexist now but girls back then were taught to sew and cook. FFS I'd rather my daughter (and the boys) were taught that than the twice a day waste that is "form time", then we have PHSE and citizenship. Much easier to order on line and have food delivered! Added to that this reliance on / the takeaway culture just fuels illegal immigration. Aka a wartime spirit ✌️

Well just have to gorge on that then.

Crazy thoughts maybe but what's the floor make up? Any insulation under that? High ceilings? Over height doorways? Would UFH be an option with say 150mm PIR then 100mm concrete/screed? -
The D in @dpmiller isn't for Damien is it? ?

I did get some of those originally from memory but I'd brought the pipes out too low and wanted the rad midway between floor and window cill.

Love it. I live near a secret cold war bunker that is shrouded in mystery. Food, beds, comms the lot. The local historical society once wrote in their minutes: "although evidence that there was/is one there has not yet been forthcoming" Long story but it's there as I've had a tour ?

Damn right, everyone knew their place back then... ?

Far seeing device. Always loved that one!

Good to know.

My bathroom towel rail is fed from 16mm Pex-Al-Pex. 16mm Pex-Al-Pex to 15mm elbow: Hole filled with CT1 & covered now with a chrome pipe shield: I really hope that compression elbow in the wall doesn't leak!

Gotcha. I wouldn't say mine's particularly stinky outside tbh. Must be pretty noxious though as it's rotted the flue grille. Also stained the adjacent uPVC frame a bit. Luckily, though inside, it's in what we refer to as the boiler room. A nominal long, thin, potential sun room affair with an old 3 piece, tropical fish tank and various potted plants. That and the floor is a good foot higher than the rest of the house! Could be quite a nice room if it wasn't for the piled high bags of stuff destined for the charity shop, other assorted tat and a load of my tools. Generally then like most rooms in the house! ? Tbh it needs raising to the ground. With the (double glazed) door to the boiler room shut you can hear the dull roar of the boiler from inside the house. As per my other thread the plan is to box the boiler in with a full height, easily removable, "cupboard" type affair. It'll be lined with 50mm Rockwool sound batts

Mine is a boiler house type and fairly noisy but it doesn't smell unless I bleed it.

I bet the space up there is big, really big.

At last a question I can understand! ?

You mean "happy to let all the leave voters work" I think?

Why should they? Right or wrong, maybe they don't think they made a mistake. You can't take away freedom of choice. Gary would liked you when you were young I bet ?

F***ing lightweight! Last time I was 14st was when I was 14. ?
