Adding radiators without hiding pipework
Tennentslager replied to Tennentslager's topic in Other Heating Systems
@Nickfromwales I've not been out to site but Div has now fitted the air valves and still nothing. He's going to send some pics of the job later but wondered if the pump may not be up to the job as it's an electric boiler? Any thoughts? -
Hand tight twisted from the bottom of the flexi. Better to assemble this bit before passing through the tap hole, bit of silicone lube helps... Extra joins underneath are okay as it's all accessible Flexi tail connections are either 8 or 10mm so yes they can be different, all have a rubber O ring for the hand tight seal

Nope none of them, do you fit on both flow and return at the highest point or only on the flow? -

I'll get some pics after the holidays @Nickfromwales I got a plumber ( dope smoking Dave) to do it but he's scratching his head at why it's not working. I think my drawing might be wrong and they are connected in parallel. He found the flow and return pipes in the loft and teed off these to the new radiators but as I say only two now have heat. Could it be anything about balancing or commissioning the system? -

@Nickfromwales Can you see anything wrong with this? The two new radiators were added to the back shop and system repressurised but only the two rads on the right of the picture are heated? What have I done wrong? Prior to adding the two new rads all four in the front office were hot. -

Great advice @Nickfromwales which I've followed. Went to Garscube industrial estate in Glasgow as they have three plumbers merchants close to each other. Young Callum at Plumbworld gave me a small double radiator for free and insisted on carrying it to the car too! Graham's had nothing but phoned another branch who unfortunately had just sent a 4 year pile to the scrap merchant. Next up was PlumbCentre who gave me a huge double for 20 quid, nice fella said he'd give it away but company policy requires an audit trail. Result, and for all the poor experience's buildhubbers are having, remember this, people are generally nice, kind and helpful. I told folk it was a charity job and like, their chance to do a mini DIY SOS but without the publicity. Was met with a huge smile and you're welcome. Few guys in the merchant queue commented too, well done son, you don't ask, you don't get and do on. Nice experience pre Christmas and saved £160 for a couple of hours driving around. -
Sending you good karma and best wishes Ali...life is all ups and downs isn't it. After 9 months of being a not very busy handyman I'm back in full-time employment in my old profession and the middle daughter has an unconditional offer at Duke University in the US...dodgy year 2017 but good news at the end. Hope your wife can enjoy your visitors and look back with a wry grin.

It's to attach the freezer door to the kitchen unit door it's hidden (or integrated) behind. Usually white plastic sliders with self adhesive backing. Without a box unit to house it I'd expect it would look ugly and unfinished as although perfectly workable as a freezer. Oh it might not have a door handle though.

Yep, well done Onwards and beyond...

Ah ha, and excuse to try out the famous CT1. I'll give it a go and report back

Just the gap where the wall was needs attention. Think I'll glue a spare bit of vinyl in the gap and a few strips of gorilla tape to cover the joins.

Hmmm...still doing the mega budget refurb of the hairdresser which is slowly becoming a lovely new office base for our team. In true DIY SOS style the carpet guys did 50m for less than £500, nice people are everywhere folks ? Please don't mind the jazzy lights, it's where the bejazzaled former hair people had their washing basins! Anyhow...the QUESTION In the pic below you can see the back office minus a stud wall. The vynal flooring has a 110mm gap in the middle of what is now one space. How do I make this good? We have people with reduced mobility using the space, it's a kind of dining kitchen area, so something that has a low profile is best. Carpet fitters said 6mm MDF with rounded edge bonded to the vinyl. Too thick I reckon and a trip hazard. Aluminium plate maybe? Super sticky tape? As long as it's black. Suggestions welcome, hope I've explained this okay.

Adding radiators without hiding pipework
Tennentslager replied to Tennentslager's topic in Other Heating Systems
Decided it's beyond the curve for me as Div the super professional dope smoking plumber has a few free days next week ? Instead I knocked out a stud wall And decided (no windows) to put some mural wallpaper on the back wall, like this...60 quid. -

Nice, thanks @PeterW -
@Nickfromwales might help me out. Is it possible to add 3/4 radiators to an existing electric boiler set up. 28Kw boiler and 4 small radiators in the big front office. Three vertical ones and this towel rail thingy, it used to be a hairdresser. In the back there's 3 small rooms and a kitchen but with electric panel heaters which I guess are going to be very expensive to run. I've a small window of time to improve this...could insulated (or coated) microbore pipe be used to connect up some wet radiators. Don't really want to disrupt the nice floor and wondered if you could clip the microbore to or just above the skirting? It's a back office so doesn't have to look brilliant but not Uber shabby either? What do you think?

Welcome @Luckylad Kinda remember that a plasterer used to be a plasterer and slater up here. Something to do with the weather and keeping busy all year. What about you...?

Didn't fancy wellies on Monday @Nickfromwales so popped over today. Cracked it...all the radiators were turned off but all working nicely now. I've ordered that wireless thermostat from eBay for 50 quid. It's got 7 day programmer which I need as there's no one there at the weekend. Is this a DIY job or should I get an electrician in?
-
Do I need to close the filling loop urgently. The boiler is turned off. Or can I leave it until Monday?
-
-
Second question. Recommendations for a thermo/timer set up? Please.
-
Cheers @ProDave Fill loop was my fault. It was a fully functional hair salon for 2 years before we took it so assuming yes. Brochure for the boiler says it's almost silent so not sure if the pumps working. When the hot tap is running it makes barely a sound at the boiler. Of topic but sorting out the water supplier moving in, we were given the last six years meter readings. The hair salon was billed £4500 a year, 5000l a day! Previously it was a letting agents using next to nothing per year.
